I'm looking for a chopper to chop onions and salads (lettuce, tomato and cucumber). Can this one do the job or will it puree the tomato & cucumber?

Powerful

This is a very powerful little chopper. It chops onions really well if you use it in short bursts. It also purees softer things like peppers unless you use a very short burst. I should think that it would be excellent for soup ingredients.
