Beginner's Guide to Quilting: 16 projects to learn to quilt

Exactly what I was looking for. Brand new to quilting. I could not find a single educational guide to quilting in 3 different stores. Tons of crotchet books but nothing on quilting. This book is exactly what I needed. I had been watching beginner quilting tutorials and I had to go between many different videos and different sights, trying to put everything in perspective and in one place and style . This book is perfect for me. Absolutely for the beginner, yet beautiful patterns to make after your skills increase. Very happy with this book.

I borrowed the Kindle version from the library first. Elizabeth Betts is a British author who does an excellent job explaining hand piecing/machine piecing in both metric and Imperial terms. She states in the beginning of the book that she wants to be that friend helping guide you with your first quilting projects. She gives great tips throughout the book. I want to make the needle book and the tote now. I’m not as wary to try English paper piecing now after seeing clear instructions/photos in this book. I bought a hard copy of this book. Highly recommended for us beginners.

I’d love to give this book a 5 but I can’t. The patterns are cute and the instructions are easy to follow. However the instructions don’t say how much fabric to buy. I added the pieces and got with the girls who work at the shop. We did our best but I still ended up having to purchase more to finish the quilt. We have never seen that before.

I have tried quilting before. But always had lingering questions. This book is clear in the descriptions offered. The steps are in clear and concise language. This book covers things glossed over in in-person classes. Excellent.

I purchased this as a gift for a family member who has recently taken to quilting. I started quilting when I was 5 with my grandmother, and I have done all of the progjects in this book at some point in my life. I do not live near this family member, otherwise I would spend the time and teach them myself. She has been doing well with basic square patchwork but is getting bored with it. When I seen this book I thought it was ideal as there are 16 different projects that should help inspire new quilt layouts and also teach her how to do them. The book goes through different layouts and also topical finishes in the forms of buttons, ties or big stitches using embroidery thread to create added effects. It also goes through things like rotary cutting, how to press items, paper piecing, and goes through the tools best suited to the job. Most importantly it goes through the assembly process in detail with pictures and words to help you along. I had a look at this and felt it would be a great book for her. She has had it now a few months and has used two of the different patchwork layouts on projects she is doing and as a result has regained interest in patchwork quilting again. Great book - I would recommend to anyone looking for a book to help a beginner with quilting ideas.

Bought this because I am new to sewing in general and a complete beginner at quilting, and I find it really useful! It has a lot of useful information without being overwhelming. The projects are really nice and feel modern and useful too. I just started my first project from this and look forward to trying them all!

Made my granddaughter quilt for this book and it is so great and easy to follow

This is a great book, easy to read instructions and alot of great pictures. I am excited to get going on my first project.
