Seagate IronWolf Pro, 20 TB, Enterprise NAS Internal HDD –CMR 3.5 Inch, SATA 6 Gb/s, 7,200 RPM, 256 MB Cache for RAID Network Attached Storage (ST20000NT001)

Nice of them to give me 22TB instead of paying for 20 TB. I bought 2 for a mirrored raid. Damn expensive for me, but now I don't dread a failed drive. It happened to me before, so this is a big deal.

These 20TB drives are slowly replacing my 10TB HGST Drives in my RAID-6 configuration. 1st drive went without a hitch. 2nd drive also good (server is hot-swappable w/auto RAID rebuild; super simple replacement). 3rd drive could NOT be recognized. Sent back as DOA. Installed the replacement w/o an issue. Noticing at this point that ALL these drives run close to 105-106 deg. 4-6 deg hotter on average than the 10TB HGST drives. Hopefully this won't become an issue? Will be installing the last drive this week (4th drive of five). Will update after system reconfiguration to take advantage of the capacity doubling. Update: 4th Drive is also bad. Sent back DOA. If the DOA replacement (for the 2nd time) is good, that'll mean two of six drives were bad. 33.3% DOA rate... How do you feel about that? Keep in mind that these are NAS drives, usually in a large RAID array, so everytime one is replaced/upgraded the RAID must rebuild. A large RAID means a long rebuild time. And if the drive is bad, you have to put the old one back in (in case of an upgrade) and the array has to rebuild anyway. Whats worse, if you're NOT upgrading, but instead repairing, now you've got a degraded array for a few more days with doubts that the replacement drive will work? This situation sucks. Regarding my earlier comments regarding running hotter - these 20TB drives, after examining the label, consume just over 50% more power than the 10TB HGST's that are being removed/upgraded. This choice may have been a grave mistake. Thank God I initially setup a RAID 6 as opposed to a RAID 5 or I'd be on pins and needles. Remember, these drive are data rated for how much data they can read/write in thier lifetime. This rating, if even accurate, is getting chewed up every time there's an array rebuild (including the rating on the existing working drives in the array). Unhappy situation. Perhaps Western Digital was the better choice? EDIT 7/25/2023: Yup, 6th drive worked. All four drives have now been replaced/upgraded. Two of six were DOA. That seems ridiculous to me. RAID has rebuilt 100% and now is under expansion to take advantage of the capacity doubling (these drives are 2x capacity of the drives they replaced), another 53hrs. I'd be done by now if it weren't for the DOA drives. Now I have to live with the constant worry of possible pre-mature failure. I mean, based on the increased heat and the DOA rate, what would you think? EDIT 3/20/2025: The 4 of 6 drives that worked are still working 20mo later. They are still selling these exact drives, but now for 15% more 20mo later?

Returned - Day one after delivery after proving it never worked - Refund delayed with No reason - Amazon AI response suggests not to worry. This note to “not worry“ was repeated several times, as additional Refund delays occured. NO REFUND yet. I’m starting to worry Refund honored - ordered a replacement and DELIVERED we are good to go all five racked and status shows we are good to go. 100tb online.

I received the hard drive damaged at first. After reaching out to customer service, they promptly sent a replacement. This time everything was fine — the drive performs excellently, runs quietly, and has ample capacity. Overall, I’m quite satisfied.

I've used Seagate IronWolf drives for NAS storage for years and have always had good results. This is no exception. The 20TB capacity is great and I was able to purchase this one at a very fair price. These platter drives are considerably less expensive than solid-state drives with comparable capacity, but also a fair bit slower and noisier. The noise isn't really objectionable, but you can definitely hear them ticking and grunting from several feet away. The sound is about as loud as moderate rain falling on the roof. SSDs would be very nice but would cost a whole lot more. For simple file storage and retrieval, these are more than sufficient. If I were running programs from the drive (like data-intensive games or video editing) these drives might not be ideal but for storing video files or other data, they work great.

I received 2 DOA drives from the vendor in a row. Couldnt recognize them in my NAS or personal PC. Immediately spins up then stops with a beep tone. I purchased a 3rd directly from SG and it worked like a charm. I suspect these are either an entire bad batch from manu, or used DC drives being repurposed. I recommend buying direct in this case if you need dependability. The drive model itself (when working) is great. Ive ran my first two of this SKU for a little over a year with no issues, and a RAID6 with SG's 8tb SKUs for 3-4 years now with no issue!

I originally purchased 4 of the 20 TB IronWolf Pro drives for my NAS. They are all working and performing as expected. I purchased 2 more to fill the empty bays in my NAS. unfortunately, one of them was DOA making clicking sounds and not recognized by the OS. I returned the DOA drive, but was not offered a replacement, only a refund. Usually that's not a big deal, but the price of a replacement increased by $70. I ordered a new drive that I am still waiting to receive. I spoke ti an Amazon customer service representative who stated they could refund the price difference to me after they process the return. I'll update this review with the final outcome.

Great product! I have about 10 of these and all work properly after 5 years

Ich habe mir die Platte als Backup-Platte geholt. Dafür ist es auch genau die richtige Wahl. Sie bietet viel Platz, ist im Normalbetrieb sehr schnell in den Zugriffszeiten und hat einen ordentlichen Datendurchsatz bei größeren Dateien. Bei vielen kleinen Dateien ( <0,2MB) geht die Platte mit der Geschwindigkeit auch gerne mal in die Knie, aber wann macht man so etwas häufiger, außer man spielt ein Backup zurück, aber dann hat man ganz andere Probleme, als ein paar Minuten länger zu warten. Wer geräuschempfindlich ist und die Platte als normales Arbeitstier nutzen will, sollte von dieser Platte ABSTAND halten. Der Kollege macht ganz gut auf sich aufmerksam, wenn er am Rattern ist. Entkoppeln vom Gehäuse bringt zwar etwas, aber es ist definitiv noch hörbar. Also nicht als Homeserver neben dem Bett stehen haben 🤣🤣 Beim Zocken fällt sowas natürlich nicht auf, und ich bezweifle ich stark, dass man sie als störend empfinden würde, wenn da ein kleiner PC mit dieser Platte als Media-Server im Wohnzimmer steht, wenn man Star Wars guckt ;-) Wer aber einen lautlosen PC stehen hat wird das mit DER Platte auf jeden fall zunichte machen. Die Platte fährt auch im Ruhemodus alle paar Minuten mit dem Arm Spazieren, was sich mindestens in einem dumpfen KLONK bemerkbar macht. Stabilität kann ich erst in einem Jahr was zu sagen, bisher sind mir aber weder Fehler aufgefallen noch gab es Probleme. FAZIT: Für geräuschempflindliche Büro-Menschen ist das nichts, wer aber viel Platz braucht und dem je nach Nutzungsart ein paar (bei vernünftig verbauter Platte) Ratter-Geräusche nichts ausmachen, der bekommt hier eine TOP-Platte mit einem guten €/GB-Verhältnis geboten. Würde ICH jederzeit wieder kaufen.

In 7 orders, two were dead on arrival and one was a vase, leaving 4 working drives. After returning the two faulty items and incorrect item, I've received only 1 out of 3 refunds. The price increased from my order, and Amazon refused to replace the drives, instead requiring me to request a refund and order again. I'd probably take the risk and buy another one of these to expand a RAID 6 array, because if one or two fail I won't lose any data. If you're buying one of these for a desktop machine, then I strongly recommend that you have a good backup strategy in place, as you should anyway. Bottom line: high chance of DOA as others have noted, possibly lengthy wait for replacement and refund, and where 42.9% fail or are a vase - that is not confidence inspiring for critical data.

Es Genial El Disco Duro Trabaja sin problemas, lo tengo en mi PC Gamer como Disco duro Esclavo sin Nas solo Como Disco duro Esclavo dentro del Gabinete y sin Problemas, Me compre Este de 20 TB ya que tengo otros dos Uno 12TB y otro de 4 TB y se llenaron con mis Juegos, todos son de la misma marca y Modelo, son Geniales.

I ordered 4 of these to populate a Terra-Master device. All but one functioned perfectly, and continue to. The one that failed to function simply would not power up, and after trying sever other SATA disk controllers I returned the faulty unit and ordered a replacement. The devices are very well integrated with the Terra Master F4-425 NAS unit which monitors op temp, disk speed, and IO performance. I had absolutely no qualms about ordering a replacement unit. These are a good choice for a NAS storage system. This morning I received the replacement 20TB IronWolf disk. I powered down the TerraMaster NAS and added the drive powered back up and within 5 minutes the system was up and running without issue
