Better than expected!
I really do love this violin so far. I’ve only had it for less than a week and I’m already getting the feel of it down pretty good. I am somewhat of a beginner/early intermediate on violin. Not a stranger to musical instruments, however and I play a lot by ear. Aside from a 5 string fretted violin that I own, I had purchased a different practice electric violin from a violin shop for around $400. I practice a lot in the garage because I leave my amp there and I just don’t want to pack it back and forth and also don’t want to wear headphones much and that gets me out of the house and not interrupting everyone. The summer humidity damaged that violin (I had, had trouble with it to begin with as it cracked soon after purchase around the amplifier Jack with careful use) because I had left it in the garage. Leaving it in the garage caused the fretboard arm to come Loose :-(. Dummy me, and I won’t be leaving this one in the garage. Leaving it in the garage didn’t cause the crack as that had happened beforehand. This violin sounds sooo much better than the $400 violin. I did change the strings out to helicore strings and used peg dope on the pegs. It did take a few days for the strings to settle in and the peg dope to really start working good. So for those first few days, it wouldn’t stay in tune for very long at a time. I’ve read this is common with new violins. So for those saying that it won’t stay in tune, get some peg dope or peg drops and watch some YouTube videos on how to use it. That makes a huge difference. Be sure to push the pegs in while turning, but not too hard as to not break the peg box. The only thing I’m disappointed with on this violin, is the tailpiece has rough edges on the sides and is very cheap looking, so I plan to replace that as well, and I do wish the amp Jack was the standard 1/4th instead of the 1/8 so that I don’t have to buy new items to be wireless, but it’s workable. Overall, I am completely satisfied with this one and wish this company sold a red model in the 4/4 size, as I would buy another one. For beginners and intermediate players, watch some YouTube videos on set up, consider changing the strings and use the peg dope, give it a few days to really settle in before making your judgement, as I think it’s a great practice violin and I plan to use it to play in front of family as well. As for the bow! Rosin the heck out of it first. I didn’t try the rosin that came with it and used a brand that’s always highly recommended called sartory. I already had 4 bows, but the one that came with it will be usable, but you need to heavily rosin it first. Enjoy!

Works great, sounds fine
This violin is great for its price! The bridge came uninstalled but it was easy to install after watching a couple of video tutorials. I’ve played violin for 10 years and took a 5 year break, decided to pick it up again so I bought this one. It comes with everything you need— a battery, shoulder pad, extra set of strings, a bow, rosin, cable for amp (or mic?), and cheap headphones, all in a violin case. The sound is decent. Definitely not silent, even when the power is off. The sound volume is equivalent to playing a regular wooden violin with a mute on it. When you plug in the headphones, the sound still comes out from the strings itself, but it will also play into the headphones at the volume you set it at. The sound quality from the headphones is sub-par, but it might just be because the headphones are cheap (similar to airplane earphones, you’ll get that flat/monotone sound quality). Haven’t tried it with better headphones to compare. My biggest complaint is that the bridge did not come with pre-marked divets for you to evenly space your strings. It was definitely marked with pencil or something, but it was totally off/uneven. Like, 2 close lines on the left and then 2 super-spaced-out faintly-marked lines on the far right. Overall, this is a great instrument. I would recommend for anyone who isn’t SUPER serious about becoming a professional violinist, and is just looking for a decent electric violin to practice with. Also, bonus points for the subtle shimmery black glitter detail of the body. Really makes the violin special (other than the fact that it’s an electric-freakin-violin!)

Pickup/preamp DOA
The pickup/pre amp does not work. It lights up, you can hear the finals pop when powering it on, turning either knob crackles massively..... No sound from violin out of the line out, or the headphone jack. I am not sure what the point of an electric violin with a non functional pickup and preamp is. They obviously don't have a system in place to make sure it actually works, other people have mentioned the same issue. There is no way anyone in "quality control" could miss that the preamp doesn't have any sound output and the knobs crackle terribly.... The build quality of the Violin body really isn't that bad for what you pay for it. The bow isn't that bad. The bridge was marked completely wrong for string locations but is fitted about right, height and curve wise. I plugged the headphones that came with this into my mixer. The sound quality is horrible. The rosin has a lot of cracks in it, but is still usable. The strings that come with it are still stretching, so it needs tuned a lot. The tuning pegs seem to be staying in place, but they needed set in/rosined. Yes, it is a 99 dollar violin.... One would think that a company out to sell inexpensive musical instruments would check to see if they actually worked... I guess not thou.... I doubt they care either.... The is my first, and last, Vangoa product.

Up date on my first review
At first glance it looks pretty good. It came with more than advertised. It had a shoulder rest which was not listed + As I became more familiar with the instrument while setting it up I found the neck was not aligned with the body. The low string falls off the neck at the bridge end. I think I can compensate by moving the tail stock over, it will put it at a slight angle but may work? I need to have the new strings I bought to make this adjustment. I would not be making these adjustments if I had paid more for this violin. I knew going in that this was not a strativarious. I am not a violin player, I'm a guitar player, have been for 45 years. I am quite proficient at working on my own instruments and I feel that anyone buying this violin should have some knowledge of working on a stringed instrument. It has potential but needs TLC. You don't need to be a rocket scientist, just some basic knowledge, and common sense. Go into this purchase with your eyes open, you need to get better strings, you need peg dope (don't know a better word), and you need some UTUBE instruction!!!!! Oh and a better bow... It all depends what you want out of this. Everyone wants something free that works great. I wanted something cheap that I could work with. It is how I have bought Guitars, and transformed them into what makes me happy. I'm 65 years old and I am just now going to learn how to play violin. I could have bought a much more expensive violin. My instinct told me to get the cheapest to see how it works. If after awhile I make good progress on this one I may go for something better but not before I make this one the best it can be I will give an update this is a work in progress. For 100.00 bucks I don't think I made a mistake. Just remember you are not going to open the box and find anything more than something that needs TLC. I don't say that in a bad way, I'm happy with what I got, I just know it can be more than it is now! I have reworked the bridge and have not yet put my new strings on and the bow I ordered from another co. got lost so I'm using the bow that came with this purchase. I have to say I'm pretty happy. Basically I'm playing right out of the box, I only moved the foot of the bridge slightly to compensate for the slight misalignment of the neck. I tuned it up and pugged it into my line 6 Helix ( $1500.00 worth of guitar effects, amp simulation, etc.). I realize not everyone has something like that but I have to say it sounded amazing!!!!! And I suck at violin. Now I have to wonder what It will sound like with new strings and a new bow? Now I really want to learn. Don't let the price fool you. This may not be the instrument you keep forever, but if you are on the fence as to whether you should buy an inexpensive violin give this one a chance! It is very quiet when not plugged in so I won't torment anybody while I learn, but plug it in with some nice effects and it will amaze you! It made me sound pretty good even having never played before. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, hope there wrong :)

You get what you pay for
For what it's work, it's not bad for the price. But definitely not for a beginner trying to learn to play the violin. You'll give up playing before you start. Setting up the violin was a challenge. I used to play violin and just need a 'silent' one to practice scales so I don't bother anyone. Let's start with the electronics. Headphone, no good. Amp, no good. Didn't bother with them anyway, not what I thought it for. The shoulder rest, complete garbage, wouldn't stay. Keeps slipping off. I have a couple of shoulder rest laying around so I used one of my own. Pegs, not fitted correctly, keeps slipping, need peg grease to help it stay. Strings, horrible, better off just buying set of strings from D'Addario. The bridge, not sure what type of soft wood it's cut from but my strings are digging into it. And the bridge is too high. Action on the G string should have been around 5mm, it was doubled around 10mm. And the action on the E string should have been around 3mm, but it was close to 7mm. It was probably setup before they installed the electric component for the bridge. I had to saw off the feet so the action is not too high. The tail piece, bad. Replaced it with one of my spare. And also used my own fine tuners, the ones it came with was bad. The ball end doesn't fit and a couple of them bends while I was string the violin I basically replaced every removable parts and setup the violin myself since I know how to do all of that and I have all those spare parts. For a beginner, that would require a professional to setup the violin and not to mention replacing parts to make the violin playable would have cost a lot more. So, definitely not for a beginner interested in learning violin.

Great electric violin! Great value!
This was bought for me as a gift. I am a beginner, never have played a string instrument before. I love this violin. So far, have practiced for 4-5 hours over 3 days. The sound is very good. I had to put rosin on the pegs to get them to stick and hold tune (this is normal for stringed instruments, my wife is a cello player). A shoulder test is a must (in my opinion) to keep this from falling off the shoulder. I bought a Kun rest for $27. Easy to setup and tune (great YouTube videos for that). It has done a good job holding tune while practicing. The headphones that came with it are junk. I use my Bose QC15 and the sound is great! It isn’t silent but it is very quiet compared to an acoustic violin. I can practice at night downstairs with headphones while others sleep. The case is very good, padded well and will protect the violin well. I haven’t used the bow that came with it, I bought another from Amazon for $40. I did used the string that came with it but will upgrade to better ones in the future. I like this model over another one at Sam Ash music that was $270 because this one is lighter. Acoustic violins are lighter still but with part of the upper bout and C bout missing it makes this one close to the weight of an acoustic. Overall extremely pleased and love this violin!

Good instrument for beginners
This instrument is a complete starting violin. Years ago I bought a wooden violin (common manufacture) that I finally gave up on after a number of modifications and repair. The Vangoa violin is complete as it is -came strung up - has fine adjusters on all four strings - positive bridge mounting point - shoulder brace - rosin for the bow and tuner. If you want to experience positive results - basically any instrument- you need to learn how to and keep it in tune. I did use peg drops which really helps on holding tune. I have not used the electronics- I practice in my small office using a bridge mute- it sounds fine -not quiet not loud (still can hear it somewhat thru the house) - but pleasant. I gave it 4 stars for beginners and sound quality because its new and I'm a little uncertain - but I like it -recommended

I LOVE it!
I was so hesitant about this purchase and I am so happy I bought it. This violin is definitely nothing like the $2000 Yamaha, but for $118 I didn't expect it to be. If you are a beginner, this might not be for you. This violin was not playable as is. I started out with using a different Bow (I already have a bunch of nice ones). The one it comes with on awful. I purchased a new bridge since other complaints about the D and A strings being too close. The strings that come with it look like toy strings lol. I purchased my dominant/ pirastro strings to use instead. The tailpiece that it comes with would not fit my new strings. So I had to wait and purchase a new tailpiece that would work. Now that I was able to replace everything, I am really pleased with it. I will be creating a YouTube review for this in a few days to show all the modifications I made and how it sounds. Hopefully the video will help people decide on if they want this before they purchase it.

Updated: seller made things right and I love it!
Update: seller proactively reached out when they saw my review before I even had a chance to return it and I’m so glad they did! They sent me a new one and it works wonderfully. It’s an electric violin so it won’t have the same sound as a “real” violin but it’s so much fun for jamming and looping. Great value, great instrument, amazing customer service! ——— I had high hopes but the outputs don’t work so it’s useless. I can’t hear it try to cut in when wearing headphones and powering it on and there is a faint static when cranking the volume but there is absolutely no sound coming through. I saw another review using AA batteries Jimmy-rigged with a fork (rather than the 9v) but that isn’t a viable solution. I guess it’s going back, which is horribly sad as I was hoping for an affordable option to jam with friends. Very disappointed

Unuseable.
I was hoping for a quiet beginner level instrument in order to get back in the swing of things, but I'm left quite disappointed. The shoulder rest is completely unuseable as it simply won't attach, the strings are snapping with barely any tension (two broken before ever even being touched), and the bridge comes out of place with even the lightest bit of pressure despite being installed properly. I looked at this violin for quite a long time before purchasing, and I have to say I'm very disappointed in it. Will most likely be returned. Their website is impossible to use, with giant images that take up the entire screen and navigation that doesn't work.

Good for price
Only problem was the bow was in rough shape

Not a good jack / headphones
UPDATE: the seller saw my review and reached out to me immediately. Once discussing the issues they sent me a new one and it works much better! There is still a faint buzzing however not enough to get in the way of the sound from the violin. I'm looking forward to learning how to play here on out! Plugged headphones in and I was met with fuzzy noise to suddenly being screamed at in fuzz. This didn't change no matter what I did and yes it was plugged into the right spot and all the way. This didn't change with other headphones so it's a issue with the violin all together unfortunately. You get a decent amount with it but if you're intent is to use it with headphones it's not worth it

Disappointing Quality and Customer Service for an Electric Violin
I recently purchased this electric violin despite the mixed reviews, swayed by reports of exceptional customer service from the seller. However, my experience with customer service was quite the opposite; Amazon made several attempts to resolve issues, but the seller was unresponsive. Upon receiving the violin, several manufacturing defects were immediately apparent. While tuning was manageable, the action – the distance between the fingerboard and the strings – was excessively high. Despite having developed callouses from playing both the acoustic guitar and violin, playing this instrument was painfully uncomfortable due to this high action. The sound quality was equally disappointing. Given that it's described as an economical option, I expected at least an average level of sound quality. Unfortunately, even when using high-quality Sony headphones, there was a constant flapping noise, which was incredibly distracting and diminished the playing experience. If you're considering this violin for quiet practice, be aware that it might actually deter you from regular practice due to its poor sound quality. Moreover, if you're looking for a 'silent' practice option, this violin is only as quiet as an acoustic violin fitted with a mute. In retrospect, it would be wiser to save up for a better quality electric violin or continue renting until you can afford a satisfactory instrument. The level of disappointment from both the product and the customer service has been substantial. Overall: This purchase did not meet my expectations for an instrument that should inspire, not discourage, practice.
