It will have started when you bought it, if you have Prime it would have come next day so make no difference to the start date. Look at the book you got with it for more instruction.

why does the blue light keep flashing after the Tea Now function has finished

When the boiling vessel discharges the water into the tea pot, there's complete silence and it is very easy to doze off. If the blue light is flashing it's a definite reminder the tea is already in the pot waiting to be transferred to your mug

Is there a flashing light to get my teenager out of his room?

The clock radiates a blue light which is light sensitive and fades somewhat in a dark room. There is a white reading light with a on/off switch. I am unaware of a flashing light which may serve your purposes!

Can the light be turned down

Swan no longer supply the “dimmer labels” to go over the clock face, but a search online will reveal a couple of spares suppliers who still holds some old stock. They are a couple of quid for a back of two (one darker than the other) and we’ll worth the investment!
