Q: is this a pen and refills .... or just refills ?

1 pen and 3 refills, so 4 cartridges in all

Q: Does the ink last for long?

This may not be helpful, but the ink lasts around half as long as in a non-refill pilot pen. I've hade mine for a couple of months and, so far, I'm only on the second cartridge.

Q: is the ink in the cartridge identical to that of the originalpilot v5? Im thinking of just refilling the original with this ink.

You can't re-fill the original throwaway versions. Being honest I prefer to write with the older style ones and they have a lot more ink capacity than the cartridge versions. If you like the original throwaway version I would buy them
