Year 1 Maths Targeted Practice Workbook: Ideal for use at home (Collins KS1 Practice)

She has her days where she wants to do it others where she doesn’t. I think it’s just her with maths but other than that. It’s a great book to help them

Collins work books are excellent. Started using them in lockdown and have continued even with kids back at school. Not only helps children learn exactly what they need to but helps parents track what they should be learning and monitor progress. I can work with the children's teachers and tutor really well as these books help me understand what extra support is needed. The exercises are clear and fun and the kids actually enjoy doing them (most of the time)! The answer booklets are easy to use and helpful.

I ordered this for my child in year 1, so I could say that the topics included are the same as what he's learning in school. This is a great tool when learning at home. I am happy with this worksheet, and I recommended it to other parents to follow up on their child's learning at home.

Great for learning

Thought this would be a breeze fir my 5 year old- it's not! Taught me a lot of things I needed to help him understand before he could even attempt to answer the questions. I should add, My child is in reception, not year one. This book is not suitable for children who don't understand 1/4 and written word problems, but perfect as an aid to practice subjects learnt. There are no explanations in detail in specific subjects, merely a basic example. Challenging, but good.

At first glance I thought this was quite hard. Some parts are word heavy, and there is a good chance many average 5-6 year olds wouldn’t be able to read and understand the questions! Of course, some children will be able to read, comprehend, work out and write the answers independently. But don’t be put off if your child is a more of a doer and a talker than a writer. If you read the questions with your child, and maybe have some props where needed to support (cubes, arrow cards, hundred square etc) then it’s a great tool. Each subtopic has three challenges that require progressively more thought and understanding. Each challenge has a handful of questions within. It’s a great resource for providing activities to talk about the concepts covered in Year 1 Maths. My two are actually in reception but there are very few/no reception workbooks. So we mostly talk about the questions and work out the answers using material items. They often don’t even write down the answers, just shout ‘it’s a cuboid!’ or ‘2 tens and 8 ones!’ But talking about it still shows their have great understanding.

It’s not complicated like some maths books it’s basic I think it’s ideal for key stage 1
