To be honest, I knew nothing about it before reading this book. But now, I am happy to say I know I know so much more. Little did I know how important it is so many important things in my body like digestion, heart rate, and even my emotions. I learned how to tell if I have a Vagal disorder and how to increase vagal tone through a number of different methods and exercises. Thereโs also chapters that include sections on breathing, cold exposure, singing and humming, massage therapy and stretching, yoga, gargling, acupuncture, and even laughter (which really surprised me.) Thereโs some good illustrations that really helped me understand the logistics of the Vagus Nerve and the exercises and tips are easy enough and well explained. I was happy to learn that I am already doing a few of the recommended things like singing, getting massages, and eating healthy, including staying away from alcohol. I was thankful that the author included the Frequently Asked Questionsโ at the end which really helped me, as well as, the Glossary of Terms. After reading this, I know know the basics of keeping my Vagus Nerve well toned so I can feel better. Review: information that i'm glad i found! - this vagus nerve book starts pretty technical with lots of medical terminology and detailed anatomy, but gets way more practical and interesting after the first third! it does an amazing job explaining how this nerve controls so many body functions - from breathing and heart rate to digestion and even our emotions. the best part is the practical stuff - they include this super helpful daily routine for managing stress and anxiety, plus tons of different techniques like controlled breathing, singing loudly, and even cold exposure therapy. what really surprised me was finding out that common activities like laughing, gargling, and getting massages all help stimulate this nerve! im already doing lots of the recommended things without even knowing it - like taking pre and probiotics, stretching regularly, and focusing on good sleep. they also talk about specific foods that help (which i apparently already eat). even tho the beginning is kinda heavy with medical stuff, the pictures help explain things. definitely worth pushing through for all the practical knowledge!!!

Interesting, but follow the author's cautions too
Reiner Hartmann's Daily Vagus Nerve Exercises deals with a holistic, naturalistic approach to health that involves both professional diagnosis and naturopathic treatment of vagus nerve disorders. Anyone who's ever suffered a vasovagal reaction never wants to undergo another one, and the sufferer can appreciate the detail with which the author explains the importance of vagus nerve health. The book begins with a detailed anatomical and physiological review of the location and functions of the twelve pairs of cranial nerves, of which the vagus nerves are the tenth pair. (Anyone who's ever studied physiology will remember the mnemonic by which he had to learn the names of the nerves, "On Old Olympus' Towering Tops A Finn and German Viewed Some Hops" or perhaps the other one, which isn't quite so nice and clean.) A detailed description of the various functions of the vagus nerves follows, and only then does the author begin to outline and describe vagus nerve disorders. The author stresses that, in anyone's case, qualified professional help is necessary for diagnosis, but once diagnosed, a sufferer can perform several naturalistic practices on their own to improve vagal nerve health. That said, it must be appreciated that the writer also lists the risks that can possibly be associated with each practice. And both in the middle and at the end of the book there are QR codes where readers may leave reviews of the book. All in all, it seems to be a self-help book whose author appears to be genuinely concerned about his readers' health and well-being.

A Key Book in the โHuman Body Ownerโs Manualโ Library
Quite an eye opener! Before reading this informative book, I did not know that the vagus nerveโknown as the โwanderingโ nerveโconnects the brainstem to the entire torso and all the major organs including lungs, heart, gut, liver, etc. And I had no idea that this nerve plays a key role in enabling the body to heal itself! In contrast to the โfight or flightโ autonomic survival response of the body, the vagus nerve is central to the bodyโs โrest and digest" parasympathetic healing system. This book describes the vagus nerve and its functions in detail, and explains an array of ways to help it do its healing, life-enhancing, feel-good work, including: deep slow breathing, chanting, singing, massage, stretching, yoga, gargling, ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) stimulation, laughter, and proper nutrition. Importantly, it also provides crucial, cautionary information regarding how to use these techniques safely, not go too far, etc. Want to better understand how the body heals itself? How you can enhance your health and happiness? Read this book!

AI but ok I guess
This is written by AI without a question in my mind. The information isnโt necessarily wrong, just basic with bad grammar. If you arenโt good at looking things up online like me, it could still be worth it.

Clear and helpful
This book starts off with a detailed scientific explanation of the anatomy of the vagus nerve. I read that part quickly, as it was too medical/anatomical for me. But it would be useful if you are interested in such things, and it does convey how large and significant a nerve it is. The bulk of the book consists of a good range of vagus nerve exercises. Many of these exercises were interesting to me, and are very accessible. I appreciated that there are many very specific types of breathing that support the vagus nerve. I found it empowering to know that things like breathing and stretching are beneficial, and I don't have to join a gym or be an athlete to follow the exercises. In fact, I was doing a couple of the breathing exercises while reading the book, and I was wonderfully relaxed and calm by the end. Overall, a nice, accessible book.

Interesting and Informative Book
When I read this book, I didn't know much about the Vargus nerve, so I wanted to expand my knowledge and understanding of this topic. As a newbie, this book covered everything I needed to know in simple terms. It provided me with an easy-to-understand explanation of its importance and how to fix issues with it. This book shared many easy exercises a reader can use to help their body relax and feel more at peace and happy. The author also provides tips on supportive foods to include in your diet and the latest updated findings about ways to support the health of the vagus nerve. I also liked and found it helpful that the author shares his own personal story of discovery and healing. The information in this book can be useful for anyone dealing with anxiety and wants some simple yet effective natural ways to take charge of their well-being, reduce stress, and improve their emotional balance.

It's a good starter book
I'm glad I purchased this book. It provided an explanation of the vagus nerve's role in the body and a list of recommendations to help with toning the nerve. Some of these recommendations include yoga, humming, and cold exposure. I really appreciated the author break down different forms of breathing and yoga. I think the author provides wonderfully suggestions on how to get started with some of these exercises. Where the book is lacking is two areas- one, the author doesn't cite sources to back up the research. He does provide bibliography references at the end of the book, which are a lot of links to attend to. I didn't get to explore those links to conclude if they provide any science to back up the information he's writing about. My second criticism is in reading the book, it felt like the author added filler information to fill the pages. He talks about the dangers of yoga and laughter, which I ended up skipping after awhile, because I found most of the dangers to be rarities. I did do further research on the dangers of yoga, and although I was surprised to find yoga can indeed cause stroke, it appeared this was caused moreso from advanced poses and again, is a rare thing. Overall though, this is a good book and one I'm happy to have in my collection.

Learned a Lot
Amazing how much the vagus nerve does and how important it is. The start of the book is a bit heavy on theory, but ultimately, that helps you better appreciate why it is so critical to use the practices outlined in the rest of it. A little book, but well worth the read.

Daily exercises to stimulate the vagus nerve
In a world full of commitments and often worries, I would like to be able to regulate my stress levels and maintain a healthy mind and body. I bought this book specifically to find out how to do this and discovered the innumerable functions of the vagus nerve that changed the perspective from which to look at my problems. There are many exercises to resolve certain pains in the neck, shoulders, head and many others; I have learnt to do them every morning if only to align my vagus nerve and I must say that they work, my neck pain has almost disappeared. I found this text really instructive.

Eye opening book
Wow! I am a biologist and an educated person, but I didn't know which fundamental role the vagus nerve plays in human physiology. All the excersizes described in the book are easy to follow and given with the introduction for better understanding of the background. I myself do the cold bath, yoga, deep breathing techniques for relaxation, now I know why and how it works. Looking forward to reading the other books from the vagal theory series!
