Works well with Zoom H2n and Nikon D5100
I bought this to mount my Zoom H2n digital audio recorder onto my Nikon D5100 DSLR to use as an external microphone. The top end of the adapter is a simple 1/4" screw which goes into the base of the H2n and seems a good fit at the moment, though the H2n's socket is plastic so I might have trouble later on if I don't screw it on carefully.Once the H2n is screwed onto the adapter, by unscrewing the 2 nuts on the adapter a little way (upwards) I can easily slide the adapter into the flash mount and it seems an exact fit. I then screw the lower nut downwards to hold the adapter tightly onto the flash mount. Once the H2n plus adapter is on the flash mount, I rotate the H2n until it's fairly tight then loosen it until the H2n's screen is facing towards the back of the camera, i.e. towards me. I then screw the top nut on the adapter upwards to hold the H2n tightly on the adapter. It's a simple system but it works well. If I were to have an accident, banging the H2n into a wall, say, I would expect the plastic casing of the H2n to break before this adapter would.I have noticed that if I use the H2n to record onto its own SD card while creating a video on the DSLR, so that I can later sync the .wav file created by the H2n with the .mov file created by the camera, it is very prone to noise such as my hands moving on the camera body, the lens zooming in and out, and so on. However, with a .5 metre 3.5mm mini-jack to mini-jack adapter plugged between the camera and the H2n, that noise is cut down to where it's just about unnoticeable. I don't think this adapter adds to the noise too much, but if I find that it does, I think that a couple of washers should fix it.(There is one problem that has nothing to do with this adapter, but I'll mention it here in case someone else finds it useful. The mic setting on the camera has to be put at its least sensitive, and the H2n's line output volume needs to be at about 50% or the resulting sound is very loud and trebly.)I'm very happy with this adapter, and the price isn't too steep given the build quality. No doubt when I lose it I'll be back to buy another. :-)

How do you stop the mounted device from spinning round?
It's quite possible that I'm just stupid, but I don't understand how everyone is using this device. The bottom nut tightens the item onto the hotshoe mount of the camera, and works just fine. But when you screw something to the top of the item, then tighten up the top screw, the fitting is not secure. Whatever you put on top, be it a light or a mic or a second camera, can easily spin round on the screw thread. The top screw simply acts as an extension of the secondary device's tripod socket, so the device and the top nut will both turn together. The only way to stop this, I think, is to use superglue! Or possibly to screw the secondary item on as far as it goes before using the top nut, but then you have no control over the direction your mounted device is facing.Help me out here!

Great while it lasts
This was a great little item, built far better than I had expected. I bought this to attach my Zoom H6 to my Canon 6D's hot shoe, it worked okay, but due to the material of the H6 no matter how tight I screwed the Kaavie adaptor it would still move. It was rock solid on my camera's hot shoe. This wasn't the fault of the adaptor but something to note if you're buying this.My problem arose when one day I went to use the adaptor and the screw had bent to one side so it was no longer straight. I have no idea how this happened as there is no easy way to bend it back (maybe I hadn't even realised it was like this when it arrived) but it is still usable but not ideal when recording sound.I would still recommend this item due to the cost/ quality ratio and still use mine albeit a little sketchy. I will be replacing this with the more expensive HS1 adaptor for Zoom recorders but will keep this little adaptor in my camera bag :)

Kaavie Hot Shoe Adapter
Good enough product for what it does. Seems well made, simple, and effective. The only reason for not giving it 5/5 would be the products height. If there was more height, it would help, especially for wanting to attach mics or recorders. You dont want any product being so close to the camera or lens, for both ease of use of functions of camera or lens, and, keeps mics or recorders further away from picking up any hand noise, while allowing room for matt boxes or filter holders and filters. Anything that gives attachment of products the additional height really helps, after using this product, and seeing the necessity for it. Apart from that, its a nice little accessory and its cheap. Anyone whos wanting or using a more professional outfit which requires bigger investment wouldnt choose this product. So if you use a 15mm rod system or cage, which allows for accessories and additional height, you have what you need. This product is for more of the budget concious user.

However this is no fault of the product and is still useful for attaching light-panels and audio if used in conjunction ...
Does the job it's meant to.I bought this to attach a Zoom H1 audio recorder to the top of my DLSR but unfortunately I can hear the camera movements (hands on the body and lens sounds) while it's attached with this device. However this is no fault of the product and is still useful for attaching light-panels and audio if used in conjunction with a tripod. The product is very sturdy and well made.

Kaavie Dual Nuts Hot Shoe 1/4" Screw Adapter
For the money - this is such a useful addition to the gadget bag. I make videos for a living and flexibility is very important. Sometimes, there just aren't enough mounts on any given camera rig to mount the desired lights, mics and radio mic receivers etc and even a small still camera sometimes to record certain events. This allows an extra option to use the hot or cold shoe when the item to b attached has a screw thread. I will only use this occasionally but I'm really glad i bought it.

This item saved me!
Bought a portable lighting system and wanted to attach a wireless remote to a flash and then the stand. However, there was no way to attach the two.I was a little apprehensive as this was cheap but it works perfectly! I screw the top into the wireless radio (with the flash on top of that), then slide the bottom into the stand and use the nuts to tighten them up! Simple!Would recommend for anyone in a similar situation.
