Not What I Was Expecting
This monograph purports to be an exhaustive study of ground attacks on air bases. It disappointed me because it was simply a rehash of information I have read elsewhere. The Vietnam section was lifted from a USAF study AIRBASE DEFENSE IN VIETNAM and I had already read extensively about the Battle of Crete and raids in North Africa. It would recommend it for professional military men who do not have access to, or time to read about, the USAF and World War II monographs. It is not, however, for the casual reader or history buff.

Interesting historical accounts
I'm not especially interested in military history or in base security, so really, really not an expert in the subject matter. However, like many readers of my age, I've read a fair amount about the WW2 Africa campaign and am of an age with those who served in Vietnam. I found the narratives about individual accounts interesting in their own right. Further, the statistics are presented in easy to understand form.

Very Data Driven
Mr. Vick gathers the data that is available to him and puts it in one place. Perhaps an eye opener for anyone that has never been detailed to air base defense but otherwise simply a review of numbers. No real insight is offered in the author's review of the statistics. The book does, however, create a desire to read the source material a little more closely. If you're looking strictly for numbers, this RAND book is perfect. For a thorough analysis... look elsewhere.
