High Quality Lens Cleaner
I purchased this Hama lens cleaning pen to use on the move when taking photographs for work related inspections, the problem is that some of the environments that I have to take pictures in is sometimes poor to say the least as they are dusty and dirty. This Hama pen can be either kept in your top pocket or clipped onto your camera strap or kept in your camera bag. One of the best uses that I have found for this pen it is dusting off the mirror in my SLR when changing lenses as I have not found a brush as soft as this one to perform this task. The brush is the main reason that I purchased the pen as the bristles are easily retracted to protect them from damage and dirt contamination, when the brush is used to dust off a lens and does not get rid of any marks on the lens i.e. a fingerprint or greasy smears you can then use the special lens cleaning tip at the opposite end of the pen. This velvet type material is loaded with carbon and will absorb any grease that is present on any lens, you simply polish the lens with firm but gentle circular motions and the marks will be removed in seconds and leave your lens sparkling. The cap for the cleaning pad also replaces lost cleaning solution this is done when you replace the top you give it a twist and the pen cleaning pad is replenished ready for the next time you want to use it. This pen can be used for any lens as long as the tip is not bigger than the lens, you can use this cleaner on video camera lenses as well as any optical viewing lenses. This is a good value product that will keep your precious precision equipment lenses in peak clear condition a highly recommend must have for anyone using high quality optical lenses.

Essential item for any photorgapher
I have been cleaning my lenses with a number of different cleaners over the past few years, some with limited success and some with none. I have found the lens pen to be a perfect tool for the job. One one end you have a brissle type brush that retracts into the pen for storage, this is very fine and is great for removing any unwanted objects that may enter the lens, it is very fine and easy to work with. At the other end of the pen you have a 13mm pad cleaner. This is housed by a lid, I have found it very good at cleaning the lens and has left no smears, its size makes it ideal to use if you have big fingers. All in this is a great product and very handy to have.

neat bit of kit
Had a heart attack when I first opened it, as dabbed the velvet end on my knuckle to test the texture, and my knuckle came away pitch black! Didnt want to try it out after that on my camera for fear that it wld be ruined, so tested it on an old pair of smudgy glasses...amazingly it worked well, cleaning all the fingerprints away without smearing the lens with black! Not sure how it does it...but it left my glasses nice and clear (tho my knuckle remains black!) That, combined with the nifty retractable brush, will hopefully keep my kit in tip top shape on my upcoming travels, without taking up too much space in my camera bag. Nice one Hama!

Great product to safely get smeary marks off a lens
I chose this after looking at reviews and comparing to others. the video was particularly useful. The pen is plastic and as expected feels plasticy ,but it is basically robust. the brush slider o/s, ok, not great, but does the job required of it removing small dust flecks etc.i wold have preferred if it had a cap on it also or retracted further into the barrel to protect the end of the bristles. The lens cleaning part, which is actually what i got it for, is excellent. follow the instructions. i had a SLR lens with a smeary mark and some binoculars ditto. It removed the smears and left the lenses sparklingly clean. At no time was i worried about the tip causing damage, it is soft pliable and being a pen , sits just right in your hand for cleaning. Note it is critically important when cleaning any lens , to blow or brush/flick off all dust specks, or grains of any sort, before any sort of cleaning with cloth or this pen tip. The cap clips on firmly and as it says , one twist cleans it and its ready for the next use. i would also use it on small compact camera lenses. Recommended as an essential 'emergency' lens cleaner in your kit bag or about the house.

Happy snaps with a Hama pen
Having read the other reviews, I purchased this to accompany my first SLR (Canon EOS 50D). The pen is the size of a permanent marker and has done a fantastic job with both my EOS SLR and my IXUS pocket camera. I've had this about two months now and the felt tip effortlessly cleans my lens filter surface with out smearing and the retractable brush head is soft and a great tool for cleaning dust away. The pen was particularly handy on a recent trip to Cuba where it was quite dusty and the circular head of the felt tip meant I could clean precisely around the lens circumference and viewfinder. For anyone reading this I would recommend you buy this for 3 reasons 1) compact - fits neatly into my camera bag (crumpler) along side a spare battery and memory card with no extra bulk 2) protected - brush retracts and felt tip has a lid (unlike a cloth) 3) pen is a tried and tested item in my view. My only complaint is that it would have been nice if Hama could have provided an additional felt tip for a few extra £s to save having to buy a whole new pen.

Mixed views!
I purchased this item recently to clean filters / lenses on my Canon 550D. The brush end is of reasonable quality, losing a few fibres here and there so far, but it does do the job. The other end constitutes a small circular pad. Before purchasing this item I had read several reviews complaining that the pad left a black residue when used. Aware of this I blotted the pad on the back of my hand and can confirm that the pen I received does indeed leave a black residue. I blotted the pad on my hand about twenty times and the residue did fade each time. I've no idea what this residue is, but I'm glad it hasn't touched my lenses or filters.

Use the inbuilt brush before you clean ideal lense cleaner
Use the dusting brush before you use lens pen as any grit is not good… used on high quality optics and cleans very well

Easy to use and effective . .
I've always had problems with dust and fingerprints on the camera lenses. Till now I had been using compact and hybrid cameras and even if it was irritating, I used the normal cloth and solution method to clean the lenses. It used to be very difficult to remove the fingerprints. also the dust would generally accumulate at the corners and would be quite difficult to remove. I still managed it in case of my existing cameras. With a DSLR, however, this was not a good option. The Hama Lens Cleaning Pen is so easy to use that I'm cursing myself for not buying it earlier. Also it's not very expensive. Agreed, there are options that are even cheaper. However, I've been reading reviews on the 'net and most of the cheaper variants do not have the carbon particles to help clean the fingerprints. Although I don't know how much the carbon particles help in cleaning, I can assure that removing the fingerprints is way to easy now . .
