SHIMANO HG40 116 W/CL Chain - Grey, 6/7/8 Speed

Perfect chain for my 7-speed bike! The chain length is also good. The included chainring is useless. Not expensive and good quality. Original Shimano chain. Sorry no picture.

Exactly as needed, no issues

Good quality, but the link used to connect the chain was really difficult to fit. Hence the 4 stars.

It fits onto my Carrera Vengence 3x8 only problem is that the pinned link it a fractionly bent. Had to bend it slightly to fit with the link closer.

Matched existing chain, no need to adjust length. Some elbow grease required to snap the link in but otherwise easy to fit

I fitted 2 of these to my 7 speed Shimano equipped mountain bike in spring 2021. The first lasted for less than 1000 miles. The second lasted for 400 miles and stretched so rapidly that I changed it because I could not bear the noise of it running roughly on the sprockets whose rate of wear was much slower than the rate of stretch of the chain. Terrible! Each new chain was fitted at the same time as a new Shimano cassette, so each stretched chain actually cost me £25-30 in parts (the cassettes showed severe signs of wear - the second chain had over 2% extension when I changed it). I should add that each chain was thoroughly lubricated with Mucoff chain lube daily before my ride of typically 40 miles, and I only rode in fine weather. I discovered that the original chain on my Shimano equipped Trek MTB was a KMC Z7 and this had lasted for about 10,000 miles. Although I still have some spare Shimano chains, I fitted a new KMC chain (again with a new Shimano cassette but still running on the old chain wheels so it would be a fair comparison) and it ran well and quietly for 3000 miles and I have just replaced it as it had over 1% stretch and was beginning to slip during gear changes, probably due to the chainring wear caused by the Shimano chains stretching. I will never fit one of these Shimano chains to my bike again. I will now continue to use the KMC Z7 product. They also have a much easier (for my old hands) joining link which can be undone and reused. This is not a positive review at all - but I wrote it so people won't waste their money on a product you would expect to be good (given the brand name) but isn't, and maybe Shimano will take note too! It worked, but due to its rapid wear it's lifetime was too short and in stretching so fast it damaged my cassette and chain wheels which have had to be replaced too at considerable expense.

So far so good. Packaging looks like the real thing and the price is good.

Habe diese Shimano Kette bereits zum 2.Mal gekauft (wechselte die Ketten so ca. nach 3.500 - 4.000 km). Alles funktioniert einwandfrei, günstiger Preis und auch das Anbringen der Kette geht dank eines speziellen Kettenglieds einfach von statten. Kaufempfehlung.

Kedja som verkar hålla bra som inte är rostbenägen, vilket billiga kedjor ofta är.

Aún no la instalo. Abrí el producto y tiene un poco de lubricante. En general se ve bien pero me dio la impresión de ser usada ya que al pasarle un trapo o papel limpio, se queda sucio de color negro como si fuese usada. La revisé con más detalle y no se ven marcas de desgaste por lo que puedo suponer que es por las propiedades del metal en reacción con el lubricante.
