Simple, effective tool for a debilitating problem
I am a fit, slim female in my 20s, so this tool is not just for those with age-related pains or gym-related pains!I have suffered from muscle knots in my neck and shoulders since high school, and the problem has worsened over time. Stress and prolonged periods in front of the computer make the problem infinitely worse. While massages and heat do help, it's difficult to reach the trigger points that give me the most grief without straining my arms and even being able to apply as much pressure as I'd like.A while back I got frustrated about not being able to apply the depth of pressure required to release the knots, and started using the "other" side of a hammer (i.e. the claw tool) to hook round my shoulder and dig into my levator scapulae. This way I could use traction from the front to put pressure on the muscle knot. While this unconventional method helped a lot, it was impractical as hammers are heavy and not designed for this purpose!Enter the body back buddy, which has been the best tool I've ever used for muscle knots. I use it in exactly the same way as I did the hammer, only this time it can reach further into the muscles and can get to literally any position on my whole back. The amount of pressure you can apply is amazing compared to the weak efforts using your hands alone.I typically use the pointed nodules rather than the round ones, as they get deeper into the knot (I can stand a lot of pressure and find this relieves the pain the best). I mainly use the very end nodule but do like the two close together in the curve of one of the ends, for applying pressure to the back of the base of the skull/neck too.A few people have mentioned its weight. It is heavier than I expected, but actually this was a pleasant surprise. It's purely because it's made of very high quality, strong plastic. I expected it to have a little flex to it, but no, it's very strong and can withstand any amount of pressure without budging. Obviously this is the kind of build quality you want in a tool specifically designed to apply pressure. I should state that I'm a very petite and thin 20-something, I am by no means a strong person and have absolutely no difficulty holding the item. I can't imagine the weight being an issue for anyone.I deliberated between the BBB, theracane and backnobber. I'm really pleased to have chosen this one for three reasons: 1) the two 'handles' are really, really useful for applying pressure. 2) I'm using the other various nodules more than I expected. 3) The pointed nodules work far better in my muscle knots than the round ones. For those reasons, I'd recommend this tool over the others.Although I've only been using the tool a brief time, it's loosened up my muscles and relieved pain immeasurably. It may seem pricey for what is essentially a piece of blue plastic, but I do not begrudge a single penny. For anyone who experiences chronic muscle knots, I can't recommend this highly enough.

Gets to those places you can't.
I had whiplash from a minor car accident several years ago and still suffer from pain down my neck and under my shoulder blade. I have been to countless different massage therapists, physiotherapists etc and only one ever relieved the pain under my shoulder blade and, of course, she moved away.Recently I have been suffering more and the massages I was having, while nice, just weren't cutting it. With the foam roller and massage balls I had I just couldn't get to the knotted muscles myself. So I turned to Google to see if I could find anything that I could use to get at the source and I came across the Body Back Buddy.Initially, I didn't buy it but the pain persisted and so I popped it into my shopping cart. And now I wish I had bought it years ago. After just one use I was able to get at the tight muscles under my shoulder blade and release some. I don't have the constant feeling of a tennis ball sized knot getting in the way under there and so slept better than I usually do.The right side of my back hasn't felt this loose and relaxed in such a long time so I am looking forward to regularly using the Body Back Buddy on all those tight areas around my body, getting the treatment I need without the high price tag.

The fantastic Body Back Buddy!!
I absolutely love this self massage tool, I have been a visiting massage therapist for a long time and my back is completely wrecked from carrying tables and massaging so I am always looking for ways to help this poor old back of mine! I came across a video showing how to do Trigger Point work with this tool and I thought it was worth buying for just that, little did I know how much I was going to like it for a whole host of self massaging. I have bought so many massage tools over the years, pretty much all of which have their uses but this one can do so many things, it is really well thought out, though all the demonstrations are shown done sitting up but I find it much more effective getting into my back muscles from my lower ribs down lying on my back in bed and hooking the tool underneath me to work on the muscles either side of my spine, this way you can dig up into the muscle, same for the hamstrings, if I lie down with my knees up feet planted on the floor or bed and use the egg shaped nodules end to dig into my hamstrings and pull the Body Back Buddy toward my upper body I can get into my hamstrings in the best way I have ever managed other than having a therapist working on them! It also works really well for the neck and shoulder muscles either sitting or lying down. You will have to play around with the tool to find out what works best for you but it really has many uses. It is really tough so no flexion when using it, which is why I didn't buy one sooner as I thought it might not be tough enough for my needs but I can reassure this is not a problem. Some people find it a bit weighty but it is not a problem for me, though if I use it a lot both my forearms can start to flare up, so if you have RSI issues you might want to not be over zealous. I like all the bits sticking out as it means you have various pieces to pull on to get in more deeply if you want to, plus they are useful for digging into chest muscles etc. A really fantastic tool for me and I highly recommend it, worth every penny!

Inert.
Well made and sturdy, I just didn't really feel like it was doing anything I could do with the edge of a chair. Quite pricey for an inert piece of plastic as well. Sent it back and got one of those Shiatsu Massager things with the moving balls and that does a much better job
