OXO Good Grips Silicone Large Ice Cube Tray with Lid

Look, I drink between 2-3 liters of iced tea a day & I was getting through 4kg of party ice per week. I've tried so many ice cube trays over the years but the silicone ones spilled whenever I moved them & the ones with the plastic lids shattered after little use. I had given up on ever finding an ice cube tray that could keep up with my lack of grace & the sheer volume of ice I consume. I bought one of these on a whim after trying (AGAIN) to find an ice cube tray that could mitigate spillage and that wouldn't crack because I am a little too rough when getting the ice cubes out of the tray. I was irritated at the cost (£11? FOR AN ICE CUBE TRAY? Obscene.) but realized I'd probably spent that amount buying trays that sucked. It had great reviews & was rated the best consumer ice cube tray on some website or other. Reader, this ice cube tray is magnificent. After using it 2 days I bought two more. They don't spill, the silicone lid thing is great & as a bonus the ice cubes sometimes come out stuck to it when you remove it. You still need to twist the tray to get them to release so I don't know how long it will stay uncracked but here's hoping it's until I finally spend £300 on a nugget ice maker. One tray fills a 30 ounce Yeti-style cup, two trays fills a 30 ounce cup when I pour recently brewed tea into it & the first lot melts. The only downside to this tray is that my ice cube obsessed dachshund finds the cubes slightly too large for one immediate crunch. He can lump it, quite frankly, because this tray is awesome.

As a disabled person, a simple task like filling an ice cube tray can be one of those jobs that becomes impossible. I’ve soaked my lap transporting a full tray, or poured water all over the freezer filling in situ with a jug, and totally shattered a hard plastic tray whilst exhausting myself smacking it on the worktop trying to release the ice. This is the perfect solution. It really does seal up, as long as you align it correctly (and even then it can easily be repositioned) and then you can just tip the excess water out and transfer to the freezer with no wet lap or floor. And, because it’s sealed, you can just chuck it in the drawer on top of all the uneven items and it will still make cubes. To release, just give it a slight twist, which requires almost no hand strength or dexterity at all, and they’ll just pop right out when you press on them. The rest will then stay in place until you need them, even when you throw them back in at an odd angle. It is expensive for just an ice cube tray, but I’ve long accepted that being disabled almost always requires spending more money for the better items that actually do what you need, and being Oxo, it’s a brand I trust. For the able bodied, I’d say it’s still worth the price for the ease of use and the ability to freeze without trying to find a flat surface and then close the freezer with mechanical precision at the pace of a snail. I’m not on any commission, I’ve just been raving about this ice cube tray to my friends since I got it. Shielding for a over year has obviously made me quite easy to please.

After getting rid of my under counter freezer that had a dedicated freezer ice compartment I resorted to digging out this product I purchased some time ago and started to use it in my new fridge freezer that does not have a dedicated ice cube tray. I love ice cubes with my pop and have to say after a week of using this product I was satisfied enough to buy another one as I wanted a back up when one tray ran out of ice cubes. pros it is easy to fill and carry to the freezer without spilling everywhere and once the ice cubes are frozen they are reasonably easy to remove from the tray by easily pulling the ice cube tray cover back and pressing down on one side of the ice cube to release them however occasionally there is a stubborn one that requires a little more force. The tray is a slim design so does not take up much room and sits very well on top of other food in the freezer that I try to arrange uniformly balanced. Cons maybe not big enough for a family (14 medium sized ice cubes per tray) but defo good enough if you are looking for a daily fix of ice cubes for your drinks. I was very pleased I could still purchase this version when I went looking for a second one as there is a newer version that appears to be a little problematic with the lid becoming frozen and difficult to remove so I bought this version that I know and understand how it works.

Tray holds 14 good sized oblong ice cubes, which can also fit through the neck of a 1L flask, great for keeping drinks ice cold for days out. The tray is semi rigid and does not flex or bend when carrying it to the freezer, but will release the frozen cubes easily by twisting it. The silicone lid seals the water in by laying completely flat over the tray, but you have got to gently smooth over the lid to get the seal. You then tip the whole tray to drain excess water from the drainage channels which catch the excess water that spills over while you fill it. If the lid is on correctly, there should be no leakage from the ice cube holes. Best to freeze this reasonably flat to ensure no leakage, you could get away with a bit of an angle but not sure about tipping it right up on its side. I Remove the cubes and place in a freezer bag to take up less room in the freezer. Could probably do 2 to 3 batches to stock up a fair number of cubes, and then remove the tray ( it's much bigger than a standard ice cube tray ). Some of the reviews have complained about a plastic taint to the cubes. I suspect they have not received the genuine article but a cheap copy. The genuine tray is of a high quality and the food grade materials used have no odour whatsoever.

These are fantastic! I can't believe how enthusiastic I've become about an ice cube tray! The cubes are HUGE so really best for a jug or large glasses. I wanted them for gin to chill without diluting and they do the trick. The mould is easy to clean, easy to use and the rigid frame reduces spills and stops it deforming. The lid is excellent as I can pop other things in the freezer without worrying about contamination of the ice. All round well thought out product.

Some of the things I love about this tray, 1. Very long lasting. We had one for quite a few years with regular use and no problems with it. It went when my eldest daughter moved out with it. So we bought another! 2. The flexible lid does keep funny tastes from the freezer infiltrating your cubes 3. The flexi lid also does stop the water sloshing out when you're tryjng to get the thing in the freezer. Don't get me wrong, it's not watertight but it does help. 4. Ice cubes easy to get out. The bottom of the moulding for each cube is curved which means that you can push an individual cube down on the side and up pops the other side. So quite expensive for an ice cube tray but worth it if you like ice cubes and make them frequently.

This ice cube tray produces small, uniform ice cubes, which are a good size for drinks and freeze quickly. The double-layer silicone design is particularly useful, as it allows you to freeze a lot of ice cubes at once without taking up too much freezer space. The silicone trays make releasing the cubes much easier than with a fully plastic tray. The upper tray has a small lip around the edge, which makes it especially easy to get the cubes out, including those in the corners. The bottom tray doesn't have this lip, so the corner cubes can be a little more stubborn, but they are still easier to remove than from a conventional rigid plastic tray. The silicone trays sit inside a plastic housing, which helps keep everything together and makes the trays easier to handle. However, the housing isn't completely leakproof, so you do need to be a little careful when putting it into the freezer, particularly if it gets tipped. It does seem to tolerate being slightly tilted better than some other trays I've used, though. Overall, a practical design that makes a good amount of ice while saving freezer space. The silicone makes removing the cubes much easier, and the two-layer setup is a real advantage.

These were delivered super quickly to me in Iceland, ordered late Sunday evening, was shipped on Monday and delivered to me on Tuesday! These are far from perfect but they are pretty good. I wanted to make a lot of ice so I purchased 4 of these. I have not tried to store those on the side in the freezer but they do seem to be leak proof, I have put them upside down outside of the freezer and given them a little shake and everything seems fine :) My only problem with those is that when the water freezes it freezes with a layer over all of the cubes connecting them together so I can't easily get them out... I have tried putting less water in but that seems to make no difference. Fortunately the under side of the tray is hollow so it is easy to pour hot water on the tray if you put it upside down, this will crack the ice making it easier to get the cubes out. (never bang or twist the trays!) I think the reason for this trouble of mine is that I stack all of them evenly and perfect. But since the top is made of silicone, and therefore soft, the bottoms of the upper trays sit in the slots for the lower ones pressing the water out of the compartments and making the excess water freeze all over the cubes. So to avoid this problem I either recommend not stacking these OR stack them unevenly making sure that the bottoms of the upper tray don't sit in the slots of the lower tray. If you can't stand looking at an uneven stack of ice cube trays, I recommend going for the oxo that has a solid plastic top, not these soft silicone ones. Although if you want leak proof ones and don't care about how you stack them or if you only want a single tray, these are grate ;) Theses cubes are very big so they take a very long time to freeze, therefore I recommend collecting them in a bag as soon as they are ready, that way you never run out of ice and you don't have to wait all day for a new batch ;)

I wasn't sure about spending $13 on an ice cube tray, but it's been so well worth it. Enjoying an ice cube tray this much is full on adulting. I've been using a set of basic 12-cube trays that are mostly plastic with just the bottoms of the cube portion made of silicone. They were annoying though because the plastic had cracked, I was always spilling the water the in freezer or didn't have enough room in the freezer. The size of the cubes are perfect for me, not too large, not tiny. I love that this cube tray is so much more compact, so you only need a little space in the freezer and can even set other items above or below it. I was skeptical about the cover really preventing spillage, but I haven't had any issues and already made about 8 batches of ice. I love how sturdy it is and that it comes with 2 trays (and unlike my old ones, I don't have to precariously balance these to avoid the top tray falling into the bottom one). While all the ice doesn't fall right out, I don't find it that difficult to get the cubes out. Even with my old basic ice trays, I had to bang, dig and fight to get half the cubes to come out. With this one, it's usually just a few around the edges that take a few extra seconds to push out. This is truly a great design for a cube maker and should become the standard for all ice trays.
