Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: A bold, brooding reinvention of a legend - The Dark Knight Returns isn’t just a graphic novel, it’s a seismic shift in how superhero stories are told. Frank Miller’s vision is gritty, unapologetic, and deeply introspective, offering a version of Batman that’s older, angrier, and more human than ever before. The storytelling is layered and cinematic, with a pace that grips you from the first panel and never lets go. The artwork is raw and stylized, perfectly matching the dystopian tone of the narrative. It’s not about polish, it’s about impact. Every frame feels deliberate, every shadow meaningful. The use of media snippets and fragmented dialogue adds a unique texture that makes the world feel lived-in and chaotic. This volume helped redefine what comics could be: not just entertainment, but commentary, character study, and myth-making. Whether you're a lifelong Batman fan or new to the genre, The Dark Knight Returns is essential reading - powerful, provocative, and unforgettable. Review: Great as a stand alone or follow up to Year One - Brilliant story, great to read even as a stand alone. Artwork showing its age, but still very good

Son really enjoyed it
Bought this for my son's 19th birthday. He said it was really good and he enjoyed reading it. He's never had much love for 'book books' so was happy when he mentioned about this one and then pleased to hear it had been a worthwhile buy.

A legendary comic story, but not perfect.
This is the second time I read this graphic novel (the first following shortly after the two part animated movies, which inspired me to get it in the first place), and immediately from the off you can totally understand why this is held to such high esteem. In many ways it encapsulates the character of Bruce Wayne and Batman, and what makes him who he is. It is a story which at times is poetic, other times amusing. It's when it's dealing with the deepest of themes when this novel truly sings. It is a bleak world, and it truly is Batman at its best. If I had to give a tiny criticism, the art does look a little dated compared to the art of today. However, this novel is quite old, so that can be forgiven. The story will remain forever timeless.

So good!! Blast from the past
Been years since I have read this classic comic and it still does not disappoint 40 years later!!! No wonder movies are based on this.

One of the best Batman stories ever written
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns is one of the best Batman stories ever written. It was written and penciled by the legendary Frank Miller. First published in 1986 it was one of the first stories to show an older Batman in a dystopian version of Gotham. He comes out of retirement, and kicks ass. It is moody, dark, has some iconic scenes and dialog, and re-reading it is always a joy. It just hits the mark, and scores a perfect 10 for The Dark Knight. Also Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns was obviously the inspiration for some of the Zack Snyder's Snyderverse. Come and read The Dark Knight Returns, an original Batman story which is better than any movie ever could be.

I was so highly anticipated to read this story, i first wanted to watch the movie but i decided to read it first, it is a simple story yet it's so nice to read especially the monologues and how he feels, each villain in each issue represents Bruce's physical and mental state, upto 3rd issue everything runs perfectly but in 4th issue, many of the situations felt rushed, especially how the fight with Superman began, but still i loved reading this, and I've recently gotten into comics and this is my third Batman comic

Comprato come regalo per un appassionato di Batman. È stato molto apprezzato. La copertina è morbida e i disegni molto belli. La storia molto bella è stata l'ispirazione per il film Batman. Vs Superman. Non può mancare per gli appassionati di Batman.

This comic is great but I'm not going to lie. It's an odd mix of very good and in some places, very bad. A good example is the art. In some places it is absolutely awesome. But in others it is too cartoony, looks bad, or is just plain incomprehensible. Another example is the story. It doesn't make much sense when you think about it. But it is delivered in such a cool style that you don't care too much. Like the fight with Superman. There's no real reason in the story for them to be fighting at all. But it's an epic showdown that is very enjoyable to read. I like the female Robin, Carrie, a lot. She's not super developed as a character, but she is likable and adds some good humor to the story. The character of Batman is awesome in this, but I'm not one hundred percent sure what to think about him. In many ways he seems more like the Punisher than Batman. Two things I didn't like. I didn't like the abundance of tiny frames used to tell most of the story. Little micro-panels, if you will. Each is just a small piece of art, usually a head from a newscast, and some short text. There were way too many of these, and it takes forever to get through them all. And they're often hard to read. Similarly, I greatly disliked the many, many news panels and talking heads. A little bit would be fine, but this book just goes nuts with them, and few of them are necessary. I especially got sick of seeing Lola Chong with her strange eyes that only ever appear as two lines, and her odd earrings that are somehow able to levitate beside her head. But all that aside, it's a great comic. I could be tempted to rate it less than five stars, but I won't. Where it shines, it shines brightly. And some of the art and story here is truly spectacular. Some of the scenes are now iconic. Yes, it has its flaws but it is still a great work. There's a reason it always makes it in to the top ten. Recommended.
