Brilliant!
This ukulele is BRILLIANT.I'm a complete beginner on the uke (with a little bit of history on the guitar, although I do have a very musical family). I did a fair bit of research on what might make a good beginner's ukulele for someone who didn't want to spend a lot of money, and narrowed it down to one of the cheapest Makala or Lanikai. I'm SO glad I went for the Dolphin! It's such a pretty colour, and more importantly makes a great sound. After reading so many reviews of cheap ukes I was expecting to have to retune it ALL the time, but this really wasn't problem, and after the first day or so it was fine. I actually liked having to tune it quite often in the beginning, since it gave me practice tuning, and also excused any poor playing! I still intend to restring it with Aquila strings however (having read that Aquila's will make even cheap ukes sound first rate), and will update this review when I do.I was mostly worried that if I bought such a cheap instrument that it would sound really awful and put me off playing completely, but now I'm pretty much addicted and making progress. It sounds fine just playing along to YouTube tutorials and in my kitchen in front of family.I can't really comment on how it compares to more expensive ukes, but I would definitely recommend this as a good beginners, since it sounds great and I'm hooked!

Highly Recommended
Very happy with my choice, good quality materials. After an initial tuning, the sound is mellow and pleasing.I was about to order a basic inexpensive Ukulele for my Grandson to learn on, when I watched a review that pointed out all the flaws and recommended spending a little more to get this Makala Dolphin. I'm so glad I did and would recommend you do the same.

Lovely gift, great sound
I'm so impressed with this. When my daughter asked for a ukulele for Christmas I cringed thinking of an annoying tinny thing we had from a discount store before I sent it to the charity shop. This is utterly different. I'm not musical and haven't tuned it yet but even to my tone deaf ears this is a wonderful resonant sound quality. It is like a baby guitar not an annoying toy! The quality and colour (I got her the pale blue one) is even nicer than the pictures too. I was also pleased with the price (£35) as I'd seen it for £55 elsewhere but wanted to pay less as she's a beginner who may not stick with it. However I actually think I'd have paid the higher price if I'd seen it in person as it really is fantastic. It also came in its own shaped and decorated gift box with the dolphin design on that is especially lovely as it's a Christmas gift. I imagined the ukulele as a silly stocking filler but this is a main present, I'm now I'm looking up lessons she can have on this, it's brilliant.

Fantastic instrument for kids and beginners alike
Awesome little instrument, used it to teach myself how to play- I also took it into a nursery a lot to let children play, and it withstood a lot of wear and tear.Holds tuning really well, looks great, easy for beginners. If I have one piece of advice for beginners- Skip the cheapest Ukes, get one of these Makala Dolphins

Lovely look and sound.
Lovely instrument. Good for a beginner. We found this difficult to tune but could be user error. Bag is very basic.

Awesome!
Beautiful blue colour and excellent instrument.Very useful for beginners as small, playful design and cheap. Comes with nice case (though nothing special) and a little sheet with variety of chords and tunes to help you on your way!If you are starting out, I would really encourage you to get this!

The perfect beginner uke
Bought this as my first ukulele as I'm a total beginner. The case is only really useful for dust protection not much else. However the uke itself is a lovely colour and came with Aquila strings which I am still tuning every time before I play it but I hope they'll settle eventually. Has a beautiful sound and I can tell it was crafted by uke professionals due to its overall condition and practicality. Highly recommended.

its still good for the price
Really lovely little instrument and a gorgeous colour. It does go out of tune quite quickly, but I think unless you are a serious Ukulele player and want to spend a lot more money, its still good for the price.
