Frostfire Universal Soft Car Roof Bars

Ideal bit of kit, used for my SUPs but also used for a gate, easy to use and nice and secure. Although I have side bars on my roof I also put a strap through these to take the load off the straps that secure the pads to the roof.

Kept four foamies attached to the roof of the car during Storm Brian, so not bad. Not sure I'd trust these racks with that many on the motorway, but definitely ok for the price. One thing to note is that they don't pack down very small, so probably not the best if you're planning to use them abroad and want to take them in hand luggage (the bag in the picture is the maximum size for hand luggage) Update: After a while of using them they've started to fray. Additionally, the fact that it's the same strap attaching them to the car as attaching the load to the roof is a pain, as it loosens while you're driving (this is fairly common with all soft racks - please retighten the straps regularly!) and you'd have to remove the load to tighten the connection to the car, while my newer ones allow that to be done separately. I did use these at motorway speeds with one surfboard several times, but the one time we tried it with two boards it was a little dicey - nothing was at risk of coming off the car but the boards moved around more than we were comfortable with. I have since upgraded, but these are fine as long as you understand their limitations, (ie aren't trying to carry several surfboards on a 600 mile round trip at motorway speeds)

I recently bought my first SUP (stand up paddle board) and although it's inflatable it takes a long time and a lot of effort to pump it up. I needed a quick way of getting it to the beach without having to deflate and inflate it each time so I looked for the cheapest pair of soft roof bars I could find and that was these Frostfire ones. They look very similar, identical even, to other soft roof bars so I guess there isn't going to be much, if any, difference apart from price. I think with any bars of this type the main concern is denting the roof of your car. Most car roofs are very flimsy in some areas and putting a roof bar like this on it with a heavy load is going to bend the roof inwards - however, because the weight is spread over the length of the bars the denting that occurs seems to pop out just like when you press down on the roof with your hand in the flimsy areas. The best option is to work out where the cross beam support is beneath the roof and put the bars there. For me on my Peugeot 206 it was easy - the front and back the roof is much firmer and also gives a good distance between the bars for carrying long loads, like my SUP! I've taken my SUP to the beach a number of times now with no problems, although it is a pretty short trip along minor roads. I'm not sure if I'd be confident about using them on a highway but the straps certainly feel good and strong so it might be OK at higher speeds. I'm not going to risk my expensive SUP falling off the roof at 100kph to find out though! Installing is very easy as you can see from my video. One good thing is you can leave them on when not in use as the fact that the straps go inside the car it's going to be difficult for someone to steal them without cutting the straps. I now leave them on all the time which makes my morning drive to the beach even easier. Of course, with this kind of roofbar, and other types of soft/inflatable bars you do have the straps going across inside the car so they might get in the way or just look unsightly. For me it's fine and it only takes a couple of minutes to take them off if you need to. Inflatable soft roof bars will take up less space when not in use but they are much more expensive and these aren't very big anyway. Overall these are a cheap but effective way to transport SUPs, Surfboards, Kayaks etc. as long as you can find a firm part of your roof to put them on. I can't speak of the longevity and reliability of the material but so far, so good (and I do pull those straps really tightly). Tip: I saw this on another website - to avoid the straps flapping and creating a vibrating buzzing sound at higher speeds is to simply put a single twist in the strap on each side where the bar is attached to the roof and again on each side in the part of the strap going over your load. I tried this after experiencing the buzzing once and it works great!

Great product, easy to fit. Carried a kayak no problem and stayed firm and in place.

Good padded roof bars for hatchbacks when you want to transport your kayaks. I can fit both my kayaks on the roof of my 2 door hatchback using these and a couple of bungee cables for extra security and have had no issues. Be sure to put a twist in your cables otherwise they will come loose as there are no ratchets on them.

Measure your requirement for these before you buy. I didn’t (my own fault) as I needed them to carry a kayak. They were barely wide enough for me so I’ve had to buy wider ones. The straps that come with them, explained to be used over the load, were nowhere near long enough. These are inexpensive and pretty decent but I was disappointed with the length of the straps and had to use rope work and a bit of luck to secure my kayak!

Was very impressed when these arrived easy to use. But on my third use one off the clips ripped from main body of the product. Whilst I was checking the tightness of the main strap on my way home from kayaking. Making it useless had to get my son to take his kayak home then come back to collect mine. I really wouldn’t want to put more than a few kilos on this product and then travel any distance.

Didn't expected too much for the price, but tried it the first time today with my (quite a heavy) softboard and everything was just fine. When ordering this I was a bit worried about the teas/cracks in the fabric after a bit of usage (as reported by couple of other users), but the bars came with additional strap on the top (as can be seen on the photo), which should make take that thing much harder to happen (seems like the manufacturer addressed the problem). So I am now confident in fastening the straps really tight.

Un invento genial!!!. No necesitas tener baca en el coche y lo puedes usar en todo tipo de vehículo. Comento sobre los aspectos más relevantes -instalacion, resistencia, seguridad, comodidad y calidad: 1) La instalación es fácil. Hay que tener cuidado al apretar las cinchas para no hacer presión sobre las costuras -algo que el diseño permite hacer fácilmente- y se puede apretar mucho si lo haces bien. Permite apretar la cincha para fijar las almohadillas al techo del coche por un lado y por otro permite apretar para fijar el objeto que transportes sobre las almohadillas. 2) Las cinchas son lo suficientemente largas para pasar por el interior del vehículo y después fijar un objeto no muy voluminoso sobre las cinchas. Idealmente tablas de surf, esquís, incluso una canoa, etc. Yo no lo usaría para muebles, cajas o maletas pesadas ya que apoyan sobre el techo y al ofrecer mucha resistencia harían mucha fuerza contra las cinchas y las costuras, lo cual sería muy peligroso. 3) Al pasar las cinchas por dentro de las ventanillas estarán dentro del habitáculo mientras conduces. Yo las uso en una Mercedes viano y no molestan para conducir, pero si eres una persona muy alta tendrás que tener en cuenta este aspecto en tu coche. Por poner alguna pega: dado que es una cincha y se podria cortar fácilmente, te pueden robar las tablas o lo que transportas fácilmente si dejas el coche sin vigilancia. Yo las almohadillas y cinchas las pongo y las quito cada vez que lo uso porque también las podrían quitar sin mucho esfuerzo. 4) Comodisimo para llevar en el coche siempre, no pesan ni abultan y te permite llevar las tablas de surf o lo que necesites fácilmente. Instalación y uso en general muy fácil. Mis hijos lo ponen y quitan en 2 minutos. 5) La calidad es buena, las almohadillas son duras y resistentes. La tela protectora, las cinchas, las costuras y las hebillas , que son metálicas, también. Lo hemos usado durante un mes este verano con varias tablas y está como nuevo. En definitiva, muy buen producto y calidad y utilidad / precio sobresaliente. Lo recomiendo.

Le ho prese per trasportare il Kayak da casa alla spiaggia, circa 5 km. Spedizione arrivata con un giorno di anticipo e pacco perfetto. Facile da mettere, basta posizionarle sopra il tetto della macchiana e far passare le corde all’interno dell’abitacolo. Con il resto della corda ci legate quello che metterete sopra l’auto Consiglio di dotarsi di un altra cima per ulteriore sicurezza. Buoni tessuti, cuciture sembrano fatte bene e anche la densità del materiale interno alle due barre cuscinetto sembra buona. Buono il prezzo, sono le più convenienti su Amazon, controllate per credere. Conclusioni: Se non volete spendere soldi per le barre rigide e dovete trasportare cose solo in maniera occasionale, questa è un ottimo soluzione conveniente e pratica per soddisfare la vostre esigenze. Ce produit est vraiment une invention géniale pour transporter un paddle ou une planche de surf sur le toit de n’importe quelle voiture! Depuis que j’utilise ce produit plus besoin de dégonfler mon paddle gonflable, je le transporte sur le toit de ma voiture. Fixations et utilisation on ne peut plus facile, je suis heureux d’avoir fait cette belle affaire, pour un prix modique.

Comprate per mettere sul tetto dell'auto la tavola da surf. Fondamentalmente servono per superare l'altezza dell'antenna sul tetto. Il prodotto fa quel che deve, ma sinceramente mi aspettavo un pò più di attenzione nei particolari visto che i particolari fannno la differenza da una stecca di polistorolo presa al supermercato. Le due barre si fissano al tetto fermando la cinghia alla fibbia denominata C da cui poi si parte per fermare la tavola con la fibbia denominata D. Purtroppo la fibbia C non è adeguatamente protetta in quanto la lingua di tessuto è troppocorta. Difetto ovviabile, ma fastidioso. Per il resto è ok, la fattura e il tessuto utilizzato sono molto buoni, i materiali sembrano molto buoni e le cuciture resistenti. Aggiornamento dopo un mese di utilizzo: a tutti viene spontaneo montarlo al centro. Montarlo lateralmente a filo, invece, ne aumenta il beneficio. La fibbia non tocca, il carico è più agevole, le barre non si spostano anche se non si stringe molto. Spero sia utile per voi. Molto consigliato per uso a corto raggio.
