Are these scissors sharp enough to cut through 3 tears of fabric?

I have cut through layers of canvas, movers blankets, thick ornamental fabrics. I haven't tried cords or quiltings yet but haven't any doubt that they will do as they should...

are these scissors good for left handed persons?

Yes. Either right or left handed people. My daughter is left handed and she can use them with no trouble.

Are the scissors 8 1/2" from handle to tip, or are the blades 8 1/2"? i want to be sure they fit in my sewing box. Thanks! :)

Scissors are good singer variety but either I miss read the description or it is misleading. I wanted large shears and got embroidery scissors. However I kept them as they are comfortable and sharp. Perfect for the right job.
