Disappointed!
I had been eyeing these boots for quite some time and was very excited to buy them. Unfortunately these are. It as I expected. First thing the color is a lot different than what appears in the photo. It’s not really warm.Secondly, it’s not at all wide. After reading the reviews I ordered 10W although I usually wear 10 but this boot is still snug. Wearing thick socks would be a problem with these. Also the calf was a little snug and i’m not a wide-calf person. The leather was definitely plush and very soft but stitching was bad. All in all for the price point of $225 I don’t think it’s worth it. The quality was just ok, and needless to say I’ve had better shoes from Sam Edelman. These will be going back and my hunt for a cognac color boots will continue unfortunately.

... that I have been an Amazon Prime member for like 12 years and purchase several things a week
Let me just say that I have been an Amazon Prime member for like 12 years and purchase several things a week....I have never written a review until today. These boots arrived at my work this morning. I purposely wore skinny jeans on the off chance that if these worked out I could actually wear them today. I took the box in my office, shut the door and prepared myself for the disappointment I know so well with tall boots. I happen to know my right calf is a little bigger than my left so I put the right boot on first. I struggled a little pushing my jean and sock into the boot around the ankle and then up up up went the zipper. To the top! OMG!!! Needless to say the left boot went on very easily. Victory!I wore them out to lunch before writing this review. They are super comfortable, however I have a narrow foot and obviously a very wide calf. I read some reviews from people with wide feet that found these boots too tight - for me they are perfect in both the foot and calf. I could see the zipper rubbing a little on back of your ankle, but I tuck my jeans into my socks so that didn't bother me. I'm really pleased with the leather - I chose the whiskey and it looks nice - I think they will get better with age. I love that they are leather all over and don't have any big elastic panel or anything giving away the fact that they are wide calf boots. Like some other reviewers mentioned, they do seem a tad long in length. I wear an 8 and the 8's are almost too big for me, if I purchase another color I may go with a 7.5.Anyway, if you are hesitating and have had lots of disappointments like so many of us ladies with big calves, give these a try. I wish Sam Eldleman would make the exact same boot with a 2-3" heel, I would love a pair that doesn't make me feel feel quite so stumpy.

Beautiful elegant boot for the right foot
I hope my review will help some people decide if this is the right boot for them. Let me start out with some measurements.I am 5'9". From my arch to under my knee cap, my leg is 19 inches. I measure 15 1/4 inches at the widest point in my calf and where the top of these boots hit. These boots hit 2 1/2 to 3 inches from bottom of my knee cap.The widest part of my foot measures at 3 3/4 when standing. My ankle measures 9 inches around the bone. With that being said; I bought these boots in black in both a 9 and 9 1/2 and my usual size In shoes is a 9. I debated but ultimately I do believe these boots run true to size given that the widest point of your foot is not much more than mine because I see it becoming a tad uncomfortable after that. I also had too much heel slippage with the 9 1/2 but I do have slim heels. I have worn thin and thicker socks and they were still comfortable. With my calf size, it was snug with leggings on but not uncomfortable and the elastic gore part was barely stretched which leads me to think these could accommodate up to a 16 inch calf. I was still able to slide part of my hand into the side of the boots but overall, it was a very nice fit, very sleek. The boots are somewhat roomy for me at the ankles and do sag a little there but I don't think that takes away from the look of the boot. If you are looking for a very structured boot, then this is not it because the leather is very soft.Overall, beautiful boot and I love the supple leather. Very elegant and simple with all the right touches. Also loving the traction at the bottom of the boot for rainy days. Comfortable enough for me to walk around in them for a full day. Looking forward to buying them in another color.

Not for thin legs
While these look just like the picture they were huge on my legs especially around my ankles. I unfortunately had to send them back.

5 and it fit like a 9 - the calf was ok
There seems to be some issues with the sizing and quality control of these. I got a 8.5 and it fit like a 9 - the calf was ok, but the ankle and foot were HUGE! ALso appeared to have a small area of sunbleaching and a couple of spots that were not part of the "distressed" look. The ankle was fairly large also, which is not my issue (I have large calves, not cankles). Then I got a size 8, my usual size, and the foot was more than an inch difference from the 8.5 and fit as expected. unfortunately, the calf was about 1.5 inches smaller in circumference in just a 1/2 size different shoe!!! The overall color was also significantly darker, going from a natural tan to a more treated deep caramel color. Not sure if one of these was a knockoff or a reject. I did keep the 8.5, but find the calf and ankle are now sagging after just a few wears.they still look ok, but I did not want a slouchy look (could get that a lot cheaper). As the leather stretches, I also find my foot is sliding around quite a bit more than i expected, as this leather seems to have quite a bit of give. Disappointed that amazon lets someone sell what appear to be seconds or returned items as NEW. :(I need to start a shoe company that makes REAL wide calf boots. With normal ankles.

Beautiful boots
These boots are beautiful! I really don’t know how to review them because I don’t know what the problem is. They have caused a blister on my second toe. I am 73 years old and have never had this problem with a pair of boots or shoes. At this time, I cannot wear them until my toe heals. Needless to say, I am disappointed!

Well made, beautiful and comfortable!
I was able to snag a used pair of these boots (size 5.5M) at a crazy good price and I couldn’t be happier with them! My feet are frustratingly small and I range from a children’s size 3 or 4 to an adult size 6, depending on the type of footwear and the brand (smaller sizes for flats, size 6 for sneakers and boots). I took the chance and ordered the 5.5’s, worried that they would be too small or too narrow, but to my delight, they are a comfortable fit! If I wear my typical winter socks, they are snug feeling but with thinner socks they feel perfect. A size 6 would probably be my ideal size for wearing these in the winter.I don’t think my feet are particularly wide or narrow for their size, so I think ordering these in your usual boot size would be fine, unless you have wider feet. To be on the safe side, you could order a half size up.This is my first pair of Sam Edelman’s boots and I'm impressed by the quality construction. Besides the softness and distinct smell of the leather, the boots have a nice thick lug sole which won’t wear out quickly and the zipper feels smooth to open and close. The gold button accents are a nice touch. The height of the boots measured from the back (where the zipper is located), is 16.5 inches, so I can bend my knees at a 90 degree angle (sitting, climbing stairs) without the boot brushing the back of my knees (I'm 5'3"). The boot shaft is narrow enough that I can’t just slide my feet into them (I can’t get past the ankle bend) so I have to zip the boot open to slide my feet in. My calves aren’t particularly muscular (12.5 inches wide) so I have about 2 fingers’ width worth of room in the calf area which is plenty to wear pants or leggings with leg warmers/boot socks. These are comfortable to walk and stand in for several hours and if these ever go on sale in the future, I will buy another pair without hesitation (I don’t often pay full ticket price for my footwear).

Comfortable and cute
These boots are awesome. They are super comfortable wit the rubberized and padded soles that move with your foot. The colour is true to the picture. The leather smells great and is very soft and pliable. The wife foot bed is perfect for my short toes and wide foot. The rounded toe is extremely comfortable. They come up to the bottom of my knee cap and snap in the back to protect the zipper. I have two complained about this gorgeous boot. First, the calf is a bit wide for mine and is about the same width of the regular sole width Penny riding boot, which is fine with me. It means that I can wear them over pants. So far, they appear to be water resistant as my socks have remained dry in wet weather. They will mark and stain with rock salt in our Canadian winters, but there are ways of removing stains and protecting the leather. Just look online for more information on that. My issue is the way that they form around my ankle and calf. They are not shaped in the most flattering way in this area and it kind of begins to look like I’m wearing gum boots in the way that they move when I walk. Comfort outweighs this in my option. Second: the snap flap that covers the zipper at the top/back pops off extremely easily if you brush against something, ie. driving, sitting against a chair, resting one boot behind the other, etc. If you leave them dangling unsnapped, it jingles a bit. Arrived quickly and the seller was awesome to deal with. I have purchased again, as I enjoy these boots so much. I now own both the black and brown.

Shaft stretches with a bit of effort & patience
These boots are lovely. Quality of the leather is incredible... which is why I decided to take a chance even after I tried em on and couldn’t zip them up all the way. As the pictures show, my gamble paid off because after 2 weeks ;) I can put them on properly and they look as they should. With a bit more wear, I’ll be able to wear thin leggings with my new boots! Here are the details; I hope it helps you make a decision:-I have a high instep-I have a smallish foot, 7.5-I have extra large calves, 18 inch circumference, with thick anklesSo as previous reviews eluded, the shaft is too narrow for my short tree trunks. The opening is 18” but below the opening (~4 to 6 inch down), the shaft was about 2.5 to 3 “ too small. I did the following to stretch those areas out 2.5-3 inch wider:1. I used pickle jars, face clothes and a set a boot shapers made out 0.5” foam to slowly stetch out the shaft in key areas. The boot shaper ensure that the leather didn’t become deformed (placed against the inside of the shaft) while the rest (place inside the shaper) applied pressure to stetch the leather evenly.2. Every 2 days I would try on the boots and re-adjust as needed3. I started with the lowest area on the shaft that needed stretching and move up until I had my desired results

I couldn’t be more pleased!
Trying to buy “wide shaft” boots online can be a minefield. Often measurements are incorrect and descriptions are misleading. Not so this time!I am 5’6” and have an athletic 16” calf. My normal shoe size is 8M and I have thick ankles. These boots fit me like a glove! The pictures show them with winter leggings tucked in. The elastic gore is unextended on my 16” calf, but I think it would easily expand to 17-18”. The leather is really soft and supple. I predict that they will conform to my foot and calf with wear. There is no lining. As for foot sizing, I think these are just a little narrow for a winter boot. If you are between sizes I’d order up one and go for wide if you plan on using heavy socks. The colour is a lovely traditional medium whiskey brown with toe shading.Best buy I’ve made this season. These are a timeless classic boot.
