Let me start with the bad stuff: The velour earpads could be better. (Saying that you can buy Grados that have bad ear padding for a lot more money). Secondly, the build quality is fine, but the plastics are a bit cheap and scratchy...but for the price, this is actually perfectly acceptable. The goods: Sound quality is very impressive. I have many pairs of headphones and it pretty much beats all of the competition, and some of my headphones have cost over twice the amount I paid for these. To go audiophile-y, the highs are slightly tinny. But everything else is very well balanced. There is enough low end to make the bass exciting, but not so much that it's boomy or overdriven. The mids are just right. The highs are fine, but I'd say that very high notes are a tad grindy. That is just when directly plugged into my phone. Through and amp, these issues are easily managed and they wouldn't be a problem unless you were looking for it. The headset is light, comfortable resting on your head. The earpads are okay, but if you're using these a lot, I would consider maybe replacing them with something a little more comfortable. They're not terrible, but a better quality replacement would transform the headphones into something even better than they are. The value of this headset is amazing. The sound is better than some headphones that are 3 times more expensive. Great buy. Note: They are mostly open back headphones, so they WILL leak sound. So beat using these at home so you don't annoy the people on the bus next to you with your awful music.

Wow. At this price you cannot go wrong. My last pair of headphones, Goldring DR 150 have been superb. Lasting about 5 years, surviving one of those years with lots of tape holding them together. Decent bass for rock and pop music, great clarity for electronic and ambient. The Goldrings have great comfort, using oval shaped over ear velour style cups and a padded headband. They've been great but lately one side is crackling and they are literally falling apart. Time to refresh. Oh, btw, these Goldrings cost me around £85 originally. Bought the wife some new headphones very recently too. I got her some AKG K92 at £38. A mile ahead of her last rubbish pair. For me, without comparing anything else about them other than sound quality (even after lengthy run in), they do NOT rival my Goldrings. How could i expect them to at a measly £38, but she's very happy. So, across many sets of headphones, i've been reading lots of reviews, reading about comfort, build quality, clarity of sound, the arguments for open backed or not, whether they are studio quality or not, are they bass heavy and lack clarity, good for mixing, etc. And i settled on the relatively cheap Samson SR850. They have a lot to live up to considering my love for the Goldrings and the fact i didn't like the AKGs and these are even cheaper! Have i made a mistake here? Nope. I've sat with these on and the Goldrings, listened to various styles of music side by side, from Jarre to Foo Fighters, Chemical Brothers to Terence Trent D'Arby (ask your parents), and i can very happily say these sound better than my Goldrings. Out of the box. I expect them to bed in after a while and actually improve. I'm so happy and relieved, and for under £30 !! Amazing. Build quality is good, comfort is good, cable length is good. If i was pushed (oh, go on then) i can only think of 2 things that would make these headphones perfect. A detachable cable and oval earcups for an even better over ear fit. However considering how happy i am over price and sound quality, and they are my new favourite headphones EVER, i can live with the wired cable and round cups. If you are used to cheap earphones, crappy earbuds, rubbish gimmicky gaming headsets that flash neon lights and have go faster stripes on them, save yourself some money, stop buying Beats (they aint big and clever) and grab these Samsons. I cannot recommend them enough. One very happy purchaser here for sure. If these break down (hopefully not for a few years), and they are still available to buy, i'd have another pair of these in a shot.

They're perfect for at home use with a desktop etc. They're only 32 ohms so they work with the new iphones. Very good sound quality for how cheap they are. The strap design and fit is good for an (I think?) average male and while you might feel the strap on your head or the cups press on your ears after like 4 hours of consistent wearing, taking them off for a few minutes once in a while sorts that out. However, despite that I still wouldn't recommend wearing them out and about on account of a few things: 1. They're open-backs meaning, while you do get a more spatial sound, they also bleed sound so unless you have them set very quiet everyone else will hear what you're listening to. 2. Them being open-back also means sound from around you can make it in too. This is only really a problem if you have them set to a quiet volume; but if you're in an area with other people, you're essentially faced with the choice of hearing noise from everyone else or everyone else hearing noise from you. 3. THE CABLE IS NOT DURABLE. I tried to be as delicate as possible with the cable, but they still broke after about 8 months of use. If the wire develops a fault then the headphones stop working. I still recommend them for use in private (or maybe in places that are already kinda loud). Just be extremely delicate with the cable, pay extra special attention to not. If you want some good open-back headphones for a relatively low price and are planning to use them at home for listening to music or as studio headphones or for gaming then they're good. If you're looking for something to bring around with you, throw in your bag, bring on the train or into the library/ office, then maybe look at some more durable closed-backs.

I wasn’t expecting much when I first picked up the Samson SR850, but after spending some time with them, I’m seriously impressed. Balanced and Detailed Sound The semi-open design really helps create a wide, natural soundstage. Music feels open and airy, making it easy to pick out individual instruments. The highs and mids are crisp and well-defined, and while the bass isn’t overpowering, it’s tight and accurate. If you prefer a more bass-heavy sound, you might need to tweak the EQ a little, but for studio monitoring or analytical listening, these are fantastic. Comfortable for Long Sessions I’ve worn these for hours at a time, and they remain comfortable. The self-adjusting headband and lightweight design make a big difference, though the ear pads could be a bit softer. If you plan on using them a lot, you might want to swap out the stock pads for something more cushioned. Build Quality and Design For the price, the build is solid. The plastic frame is lightweight but doesn’t feel too flimsy. The semi-open back does mean some sound leaks out, so they’re not ideal for public use, but in a quiet environment, they’re great. The wired connection ensures zero latency, making them a good choice for musicians and gamers. Final Thoughts If you’re looking for an affordable pair of headphones with great clarity, an open soundstage, and solid comfort, the Samson SR850 is an excellent choice. They’re not for bass heads, and they do leak sound, but for critical listening, mixing, or detailed audio work, they’re a steal at this price.

Over 30 months after purchase, these headphones still stand as my daily driver. CONS: They have quite a long break-in period, and the fabric of the earpieces takes some getting used to in my opinion. I found them slightly irritating with longer hair but I have a large head. As they are quite large due to the winged design and also rigid, I wouldn't recommend them for travelling with, but these are open design so you'd just annoy everyone around you anyway if you commuted with these for example. SOUND and compared to M50X/DT770s: Sound wise, after about a year of owning these I bought a pair of Audio Technica M50X's (they seem to be super popular on Amazon so I gave them a go). I returned the M50Xs after about two weeks of trying them out and just not enjoying them as much. Also tried some Beyerdynamic DT770s but again I couldn't warrant the price of them compared to these. What you gain in areas, you lose in others; not a direct upgrade, even at 4 times the price. Compared with the M50Xs specifically, I really liked that they (the M50Xs) were foldable and a bit smaller but still went over the ear, lending to wearing them while lying down with your head on a pillow for example. The closed back design of them is nice if you don't want people next to you listening to what you are, but if you are sitting at a desk with your door shut then no one will hear anything with the SR850s. I returned the M50Xs after going through 2 pairs in fact. The first I had to return due to a manufacturing defect meaning that they didn't fold properly. After using the second pair for roughly two weeks of very heavy use I wasn't happy enough with them to warrant the massive price hike over these. The DT770s I used were a friends and already broken in. The bass presence was good and they felt very premium but the headband was not a patch as comfortable as either the M50Xs or the SR850s in my opinion. They also applied quite a lot of clamping pressure, really putting me off them. WHY: These headphones have an interesting sound stage and are truly incredible for the price. The winged design means they are comfortable and adapt to basically any size of head. I've had quite a lot of trouble with headphone sizing in the past with most being too small and applying too much pressure but these only apply pressure if I wear them with one ear on and one off (aka not how they're supposed to be worn). CONSTRUCTION: The plastic construction is very solid and all of the colours are flat black, drawing little attention to themselves. They are lightweight but large and make ideal headphones for staying in a reasonably stationary place, ie by a computer or connected to a console or something. The cable is thick, strong and sturdy. Like I said, I've now had these almost 3 years before writing a review and the cable has been run over many times by my desk chair when I've unplugged them. Length wise, the cable is probably about 2 metres? It's plenty long enough to reach a PC below a desk, through the other side of that desk in a hole, and then out on top to use, assuming it's not a huge desk. NOTES: These are reference headphones and if you're not familiar with them then they take a little bit of getting used to as the responses aren't boosted (in theory). The sound is very balanced as a result. In terms of value for money, I've been searching low and high and can't find anything even close to these headphones. Highly recommended.

I have had my pair of headphones for three years now, and thought it about time that I applauded them. The sound quality is excellent and far exceeds that of much higher-priced headphones I've had over the years. The treble is sharp and distinct without being harsh, and the bass is rich and velvety without creating distortion whether I'm listening to opera, dub, ambient, or rock. The headset is comfortable to wear and I appreciate the length of the cable. I've tried earbuds in the past but find that the total loss of external sound is unsettling. With these I can hear if someone calls me from another room or if someone knocks at the door. The downside is that the ear coverings come off easily and after three years of using them daily the small jack has developed a crackle. The former is a niggle but the crackle is something that I cannot remedy. Nevertheless I will buy a replacement pair. Definitely recommended and a worthy five stars.

Update 29.10.2017. ********************************************************************************* After more than year of daily use headphones still work flawlessly. Only one visual defect has shown during year of daily use (see picture). Headband wire cover has cracked, but it doesn't interfere in any way. ************************************************************************************** Samson SR850 are semi open design headphones. Which means you hear ambient sounds more than in closed back headphones. Many people say that you can listen to something and have conversation at the same time. I must agree and at the same time disagree with that . At low volumes you definitely can, but at like 25%-30% volume on my PC I can't hear people in the same room. Semi-open design leaks sound you hear, which basically means you don't want to wear them publicly. Unless you want everyone around you to hear what you are listening to. Headphones are meant to give you sound as it is. They do the best to retain audio as it was meant to be. Without amplifying base, mids of highs. Which is called flat frequency response curve. Headphones have nice self adjusting mechanism and they adjust as you put them on. Ear pads are comfortable. For someone who want's their headphones to look perfectly clean I recommend to look up non velour version of these headphones or buy replacement pads. Velour collects dust and small pieces of cloth (can be seen in picture). If you are expecting good audio quality for descent price go for these headphones, but be aware that if music of movie or whatever you are listening to is produced bad or is low quality it will sound bad. That's why they are called reference headphones. Also there will be no "wow" factor or added bonuses. You get plain box with headphones and adapter from 3.5mm to 1/4 inch. For people that are concerned that these headphones are advertised as "studio reference", don't be afraid. You can use them with your PC or phone just like other headphones and also they are great for everyday use.

I have used a Samson microphone (G-Track Pro) which was excellent so gave these a try. They are very comfortable to wear and the sound is nice but because of the increased treble frequency response (comparing A-B with Beyer DT770 80ohms) they can't be used to balance or EQ a recording. For general listening purposes, they are satisfying; the uplift reveals details which otherwise wouldn't be so clear, and despite that uplift the sound is not shrill. Lower end is present, clear and detailed without being excessive. For the price, these are great value – just be aware of the frequency tilt if using for objective monitoring purposes. I am keeping these as, nevertheless, they are good for general listening.

Looked cheap and ears get hot.. so I returned it. But its good for its price of $50ish

Sound quality rankings (my personal take): Shure SRH440A: 10/10 - perfectly balanced sound, tight punchy bass. My favorite sonically, but too tight on my large head. Rode NTH-100: 9.5/10 - most ergonomic/comfortable fit, cleaner mids/highs, but less bass saturation. Samson SR850: 8.5/10 - solid sound for semi-open design, comfortable fit, great for longer sessions. Samson SR850 gets 5/5 for price/performance - it’s worth every cent if you’re on a tight budget. Highly recommend for budget-conscious producers!

De lo mejor que puede haber en audífonos de calidad para trabajar con DAWs, hago covers y con estos audífonos monitoreo todo lo que grabó en reaper y también los uso para escuchar música y son excelentes, no colorean ni los graves ni los agudos, son realmente planos, se me han caído al suelo y se me han mojado y siguen funcionando perfectamente, solo cuiden el cable porque es lo único que podría fallar con el tiempo pero a 3 años de uso no me han dado problemas

Los he probado en varias fuentes (tablet, teléfonos móviles, ordenador) y en todos da un sonido realmente bueno y con volumen adecuado. Los bajos estan presentes sin oscurecer el resto. Los agudos son bastante notables. Dicen que con el uso ("quemado") se van suavizando. Por mi están bastante bien así. Los medios no se quedan atrás, siendo muy definidos. He leido que tras unas 200 horas mejoran mucho y se hacen aún más planos. Yo llevo usándolos unas 20 horas y genial. Los materiales no son lo mejor del mundo, pero parecen resistentes. Las almohadillas son de velour, no de simil de piel, y no les veo mucho problema. Si no fueran muy duraderas, son fácilmente reemplazables. Lo de que aprietan en exceso, molestias por la diadema... a mi no me aprietan nada, y la diadema no hace ningún daño. Al contrario, los encuentro bastante cómodos. Hay quien los deja abiertos en la caja durante unos días, para que se ensanche, pero a mi no me hizo falta... y mi cabeza es generosa... En fin, una muy buena compra por 39 euros.
