The Study of Language 8th Edition

Excellent book. Just what I wanted and needed

Easy to read

This is probably mandatory reading for anyone taking a Linguistics course. It was for me. Some of the concepts and language can be a bit complex but Linguistics itself can be a bit complex especially when analyzing the English language and all of it's nuances and contradictions. This book actually helped me understand why some idiosyncrasies in language are inherited as well as where a lot of slang comes from which was fun and unexpected from a college textbook.

I really enjoyed reading this introductory book about the study of language. Interesting topics, good examples and very concise structure. A real pleasure to read.

I bought this book in order to see if it would be adequate for an undergraduate linguistics course that I teach, but this textbook is far too basic for use in a linguistics course. While well written, it is severely lacking in terms of contents. There are better books out there.

The book is good except that it was unprotected from minor damages. Next time, put it also in a box.

Bought for much cheaper here than other places and a decent read considering it is a school book.
