can I buy additional handsets

Yes you can ,but you have to sync it to your base station,it is real easy to do . The base station has a pin , I tried 0000 (probably factory set) and changed it to my own . is this wall mountable

No. there are no instructions or attachments to enable wall mounting.

Does this phone have a call log function?

Yes, this phone logs your calls and missed calls. Not sure how many as I've only recently purchased this phone set.

Do you need a phone socket for the second phone?

No. Only the main phone needs a phone socket. The second phone will only need a 13 amp electric socket.
