These mugs are of two different styles - one that is largest at the bottom with a squared handle and one that decreases in diameter toward the bottom with a curved handle. I have the "large bottom" style and the distance between the bottom of the handle and the bottom of the mug is one inch. Not suitable for a cup holder, but the more slender style with the curved handle might be. Hope this helps!
