Perfect for Adults and Funny Too
This book is great. Here is the history of my journey. Knowing zero about playing the guitar, I started with a book that is supposed to be for beginners but it is way over my head. Then I signed up for a group class and bought the book used by the instructor and it was aimed at middle school kids - it teaches them about reading music, beats, etc. in great detail. It was okay but not inspiring and I already know how to read music. Next I bought the little chord book and that is handy but doesn't teach you how to play. It's a reference. Now that I've made all of those mistakes, I wised up and hired a professional guitarist with a lot of patience for adult learners. The right teacher is definitely worth the cost, but if you can't do that, this book is the next best thing. Along with those lessons, I FINALLY bought the correct book, this one, to remind me of everything that the guitar teacher tells me to do. This book is meant for adults, shows fret fingering AND TABS (the other books do not and I didn't even know what that is until now) shows how to use the pick correctly and what different picks will do, and teaches you how to STRUM correctly. If the other books explained the strumming symbols and how to actually strum correctly, I missed it. It is very clear in this book. It's interesting how the author shows how to play different chords and chord progressions and then lists many songs that use those progressions. He also reminds you to practice, tells you when pain in either arm or hand is a sign of how you are holding them and why sometimes you need to just put down the guitar if you are feeling pain.If you are an adult that is "stuck" trying to learn the guitar and drowning in a sea of YouTube videos that swear they are the road to success, I recommend that you ditch it all and check out this book and start again, from the beginning.I purchased the Kindle Edition and I can display it on the large screen on my PC or laptop when I am practicing. I can make the page as large or small as necessary. It's very convenient. If you are an adult just starting to learn to play guitar, I highly recommend this book.

Useful Tools
Yeah, this is a cut and paste across the the set that I purchase. Lots of useful information. Lots of useful things to practice. And like all things you want to get better at. You need to actually practice. These will help.

Hard to understand
Only had this book for a little over a week and I'm more confused now than what I was. Learning guitar from a book is like learning to drive a car by reading the owners manual. I'm just not sure a book is the proper way to go. Not saying the book isn't well written, well maybe I am, because some of the lessons are confusing. But I'm 80 years old and that could play into things. :) I'm planning to continue with the book and won't be discouraged if I put it away somewhere to gather dust.

THE Starter Book for Beginners
Professionally written with a little humor mixed in. This book is like having a professional music teacher looking over your shoulder without all the stress. It is written to bring what others think is a rocket science down to a level where beginners can understand, learn and demonstrate by doing. By interacting with and playing the written lessons within, a dedicated beginner can be playing songs, confidently, in a 2 week period of time. I'm into my first week after floundering for 4 weeks and can see a measurable improvement in my playing abilities.
