Beautifully made book
I originally checked this book out from the library. When it came time to return it, I didn't want to, so I bought a copy. I have a book I bought during the original U. S. King Tutankhamun exhibition in the 1980's. I thought it was great, and it is, but this surpasses that book. It's not a comprehensive history. It's a coffee table book with pretty pictures and some interesting facts. And I love it.

Historical
When the tomb of King Tut was found and the explorers open his vault, I was fascinated at the historical certificates and other history sealed in his coffin and gravesite. I love history and Amazon had tons of books available (same-day delivery for PRIME members). This book was so good, I read it twice!!!

Almost better than the exhibit itself!
I dragged my husband to Chicago to see the exhibit at the Field Museum last July and I have to say for the price we paid I was a little disappointed. We weren't able to take any pictures of anything at all and there were so many people in the rooms at one time it was hard to get a good look at anything. Then when we got to the gift shop at the end of the exhibit this book was a ginormous $50!After paying what we did to get into the exhibit itself, I just couldn't justify paying that much for the book. Needless to say, when I discovered it on Amazon for half that price I was ecstatic!! It is a wonderful book. Beautiful pictures as only National Geographic can give and it is very easy to read and informative.

Perfect for the exhibit!
I bought this book for my son and myself before we went to the exhibit in San Francisco. My son is developmentaly disabled, so I knew we'd have to make it through the exhibit quickly. It was a godsend to not have to stop at every artifact from the exhibit to read the description, we were able to view the pieces we were longing to see without having to spend too much time in a crowd, which makes him anxious. It was awesome to walk into a gallery and have him shout "look, Mom! It's the ceremony crook and flail!" when my son is only eight years old. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn about the boy king, but especially if you're going to see the exhibit. It's a wonderful guide.

Great value for the price
I saw the exhibit years ago in Victoria BC, so did not want to go again, but wanted to view the items. The photography in this volume is wonderful. Having read much about Howard Carter and the discoveries, the politics, etc., I am happy to have this attractive book (attractive even in paperback) to peruse. The culture that had so much gold and wealth and created such intricate artistry is hardly apparent today. And one must ruminate on the fact that being packed away with so much gold "stuff" still did not achieve eternity for young Tut - or...maybe it did, on a different level. The objects are beautiful and the text informative.

Excellent value
I went to see the King Tut exhibit at De young last month and was tempted to purchase the exhibit catalog plus DVD (which was $49.99). Good thing is that I typically check amazon.com before my purchase for price check and wanted to do the same. I bought this for a little over $12 including shipping. I am not sure if this is the exact copy they sell at the De Young Museum store and this copy I received did not come with the DVD. However, I am still very happy for the purchase (great value).

fantastic photos and great history info
We were fortunate to be part of the last available tour to NYC for the King Tut tour and it was awesome. When I got home I found the tour companion book for a better price thru Amazon then the book store where the tour was held. The book shows photos of the items you viewed as well as great explanation of each item as well as the history surrounding the mystery of King Tut. Just a beautiful book and fun to tell people you share this book with that "oh thats right, i saw that piece!"Enjoy

Better value than from the exhibition!
If you have been to or going to the exhibition at the 02 this is basically the identical book (same ISBN) as they are selling in the gift shop for £35.00. The only difference is that the Amazon one does not have the Omar Sharif audio disk included and it has a different slipcover. In my opinion the audio is great when you are actually walking round the exhibition but standalone it is of no great shakes. This book is a great souvenir of the exhibition, maybe not the most educational but beautifully photographed, would grace any coffee table! Save your cash go to the exhibition and buy the book on line!

Excellent souvenir
Didn't realise how tiny this book is - but it is an excellent souvenir. Great photos of key artefacts from the Pharaoh's tomb. I wouldn't pay the earth for it, but it's worth a few pounds.
