I am a professional photographer. I specifically shoot on location a lot and I use anywhere from 1 to 9 flashes in one shoot. Portability and the ability to "change gears" is very important to my workflow. And weight also plays a secondary role. I have spent a LOT of time fine tuning my kit to be as efficient as possible.Now comes this 100+ dollar softbox that I would easily pay twice that for. Everything about this thing surprised the heck out of me from build quality, to weight, to light quality.Build:I was expecting fabric and rods similar to another cheap branded "quick box" that I tried and returned. This one has a very nice nylon feeling material on the outside, the inside seems plenty reflective and smooth. The rods are a flexible lightweight metal with rubber on them in exposed spots. Not this heavy steel that I experienced with the other brand. It folds out into a perfect rectangular shape and feels solid.I was also expecting the speedring/locking mechanism to be heavy and bulky. Nope its very lightweight as well but seems well made to me.Lastly I was expecting to have to pull and tug to get this thing to lock into place. I was much much easier than i expected. Very nice mechanism and easy to lock in place and easy to release once you practice it a couple of times.Weight:I pretty much covered this above, but I'll say this thing feels much ligher than any folding softbox I have ever used except for the Glow Parasnap (newest version) which is close to the same weight.Light quality:I tested this softbox with my color meter. I did not show any major shift in color temperature compared with firing the flash bare bulb.It is a softbox and does what it should. Spreads out the light homogeneously. I love that you can remove the inner diffuser with VELCRO and not snaps. I hate those little snaps or hooks. Velcro seems too simple, but it is fast which is what i like. When i shoot outdoors with lower powered strobes like the AD200pro, I like to remove the inner diffuser to give that extra stop of light when needed.--And if that wasn't all enough. The thing comes with a very nice high quality feeling carry case. I usually throw away the cheap carry cases for my soft boxes but this one I will be using. So that is saying something.It wouldn't be a proper review if I didn't list "cons". I don't see them as cons so much as possibly room for improvement:1. The rods are perfect now, but just like my glow parasnap which uses the same type of thin metal, these can be bent out of place over time and it is something to be aware of if you are packing and unpacking gear a lot. In a studio environ, it will prolly never be an issue. I wish both brands could make these same type of designs with a replaceable fiberglass. But i am nit picking.2. This would be the perfect softbox if there was a zipper access to the bulb. I change gel's a lot and I use a magnetic system. It would be nice to not need to remove the entire modifier to change my magnetic gels. This is something that applies to my use case and will not affect most people.3. The outer diffusion fabric does not have the quality feel as the rest of the unit, although it has excellent color fidelity to my test above. I personally would be happy to pay more to have that improvement added.As you can see I really have to stretch to find fault with this thing. Very happy with this purchase especially for the money. I will be ordering several more of these in various sizes.I like that this softbox is an innovation and not just another copy of another company's design. I think it says a lot for the Smallrig company.

This is very well made, easy to assemble and disassemble. Not to mention that it came with a grid at a good price.

Easy to set up. Releasing the ribs from the mount was a little difficult/stiff the first couple of uses, but is a breeze now.Two diffusers and grid give you lots of flexibility and room to be creative, and the universal Bowens mount doesn’t limit you to only SMALLRIG lights. (Especially helpful if you’ve already invested in a few lights you’d like to keep using.)Comes with a good quality carrying case, but I wish it came with two small nylon sleeves for the grid and the diffusers to keep them clean.

I'm very happy with this Rectangular Softbox. Almost perfect. This high-quality, rugged softbox is ideal for photographers and videographers alike. Its portable and lightweight design allows you to take it almost anywhere and its quick setup structure makes it a great product for consideration. I wish the setup was more like an umbrella.

I've been very impressed with SmallRig's line of new products as they provide a lot towards the videography and photography community. This softbox is paired with my SmallRig RC120B and works flawlessly for diffusing light. In, general the RC120B is a pretty bright light and previously I rigged a soft white umbrella to help difuse some of the light spot on. This diffuser most definitley looks way better compared to what I did before.Overall the build quality is very nice just as well! SmallRig does a great job at providing their users with an experience and ease of use functionality. The softbox comes packed in a provided cylinder-shaped carrying case with everything folded down. Inside was also a diffusing grid as well as a soft diffuser that both can be attached to the panel as it's covered in velcro. What's really nice is the fact that the diffuser mount is a standard Bowens style mount which makes it versatile for using with other products outside of SmallRig as well. In general, I've been satisfied with the product and would most defiantly recommend picking this up for studio needs and just to have on hand.

This softbox was just what I have been looking for. It is quick to setup right out of the box and easily fits to the standard Bowens mount. It is not too heavy, so I haven't had any issues with my stands holding it up. Despite being fairly lightweight, the build quality feels quite good. I have no doubt this will hold up well traveling from shoot to shoot. A great product overall.

I have multiple round softboxes and a few square ones, but this is my first rectangle one. I've found that it is really useful for flooding light into a space via a thinner profile than the large round softboxes I own. This saves space and makes this a really useful softbox in situations where you don't have really high ceilings but still need lighting as if it was. With a light stand, you can put this softbox up against the ceiling and in images and video it creates the appearance that the subject is in a much larger space than they are with light coming from windows high above them.I am sure I will find many more uses for this softbox, but definitely a welcome addition to my studio gear that I expect to be using for many years. If you have not used a rectangular softbox before, I would highly recommend this one.

I really was impressed when I received and first set up the RA-R6090. My examples were well built from quality materials.This has had to be one of the simplest and fastest setups of a softbox I have ever experienced. As I am used to wrestling with Chimeras, the quick release of the SmallRig was a total revelation. Just pull up on and click to lock the two poles marked #1, then do the same with the two marked #2 and you're ready to mount to your light.Just a well built and affordable modifier that is easy to set up and use.

It's easy to collapse and set up and has a feel of quality about it.
