The first time is the hardest
I received this as a gift. It was so difficult to get the ball to levitate. We watched you tube videos, got frustrated, gave up, tried again and again, thought we paid a lot of money for a piece of junk and then.... we got it to work!! I found it easiest to hold the ball in both hands and use your pinkie and ring fingers to keep you steady on the base while you slowly lower the ball feeling for that sweet space of least resistance. The magnet will pull, don't let it. When you don't feel that pull, slowly let go one finger at a time. Lol it's beautiful and fun to see when you walk into the room.
