J. Herbin 1798 Anniversary Inks - Silver Sheen 50 ml Bottled - Amethyste de L'Oural (Rich Deep Purple Ink)

I love purple, it’s my favorite color. This ink is so perfect, well behaved even in an EF nib and gorgeously glittery. I want to ink all of my pens with this ink now, it’s wet but it still manages to lay a thin line out of an EF nib. The coolest part is that even with such a fine line, I still get to enjoy the glitter effect. This ink is perfect for people like me who actually write with these gorgeous inks.

I love the J Herbin colors with sheen. There are several differnt color and they are beautiful, vibrant colors. Okay, maybe brown is not actually a "vibrant" color, but with the sheen it has a richness and depth to it. Unfortunately I havent been able to find a demonstrator pen that does a good job of showing off the ink both while in the pen as well as on paper. The ink looks phenomenal in the Moon Man 2 demonstrator. I love being able to see the inks sloshy around in the barrel of pen. Unfortunately the MM2 comes with a F ro EF nib which does nothing to show off the ink on paper--and has other problems. I have a pen with a Peter Bock's TITANIUM BOCK 250 NIB. It's a flex nib in medium that has enough ink flow to show off the sheen on paper. Unfortunatley the pen is also titanium can so I can't see the ink. Idealy I want a crystal clear, full barrel demonstrator with a great flex nib at less than $50 so I can have one pen per color.

I love this ink. The Jacques Herbin 1798 and 1670 inks collection are the only shimmering inks I enjoy using. The glitter particulates used in by Jacques Herbin doesn't seem to dry as fast on the nib nor clogged the feed as frequency as the Diamine Shimmertastic collection when not in use for long period of time. However, I would not recommend getting this ink, if you are not a fan of either shimmering nor a deep shade of purple. There is literally nothing else interesting about this ink beside those two factors. The ink has minimum shading, not water-resist, and is well-behaved. I use this ink in my Lamy Safari Dark Lilac (SE) and the color of the ink match exact to the pen color. I recommend using at least a (western) fine nib or a really wet (western) extra-fine for the shimmering effect to be noticeable. Of course, the wider and wetter the nib, the greater the shimmering effect would be more noticeable. Unfortunately, this ink cannot be compared to the Emerald of Chivor (1670). I still consider Emerald of Chivor to be the best "green" and "J. Herbin" ink. However, I would consider the Amethyste de I'Oural to be one of my favorite purple ink (along with Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Rose & Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-budo) and my second favorite J. Herbin ink followed by the Bleu Ocean (1670). If you really like deep, dark purple with some glittered inks, I highly recommend giving this ink a try. You certainly will not regret it.

This ink is gorgeous! It arrived more quickly than anticipated, considering it had to travel overseas. The packaging is great, with the lovely chunky bottle nestled in a classy cardboard box with a bit of extra cardboard inside for padding and support. The outer box is wrapped securely in cellophane that appears as though it would stop any leaks from ruining other objects in the package. The color I ordered is amethyst, which is actually a deep purple with a lovely glittery shimmer. I shook it up well and immediately put it in a converter and popped it into my Jinhao 950 porcelain dragon pen with a medium nib, which is cheap enough to sacrifice to testing. The ink flowed quite easily without having to fiddle with it to get it started and it writes like a dream! I'm so in love with the beautiful shimmery ink that I'm considering ordering one or two more once I get a feel for how much it might clog.

Be sure to slosh the Ink around in the bottle before loading it into your pen. Over long periods of time, the metals could settle to the bottom. It did with my brown version of this ink. Some folks might have problems with if they are using fine or extra fine nibs because the ink with respect to the gold, or in the case, silver ratios change if you are not using the ink in the specified ratio. It could cause clogging problems. Just a hunch. Other than that, this is an amazing ink by any definition. It flows great, absorption is excellent, the saturation is a bit intense. So, when you are finished using it, clean your pen completely because it will leave stains. This means flush it thoroughly and wipe your nib down a soft paper towel. Do NOT leave this ink your pen. It's a small price to pay to use this amazing product. I gave this ink a five star rating across the board. It's a shame I couldn't give it a 15.

Really nice stuff! Shows itself best on really good, fountain pen-specific papers, but works fairly well with visible shimmer on more workaday paper from Walmart as well. My bottle had a fair amount of shimmer in it, more than I care for, but I either 1) shake the bottle until only some of the particles enter the suspension (still some on the bottom)-- or 2) shake the whole thing, fill the pen, return about half the ink and wait fifteen seconds, then fill with clearer ink on top after some particulate settles.

I bought it on a lark because I love purple and I love sparkles. Writes really well and is one of my go-to inks for writing. Just enough shine and a great ink if you like bold colors on the page. I use mine with a fine-tipped pen and don't have any issues with clogging, but I'm also pretty good about shaking my pen before use, so maybe that helps? Either way, it's fun to use and quite lovely to look at.

This ink is GORGEOUS. The deep purple with a slight silver shimmer is magnificent. The only downside is it dries in your pen fast. I put this in my Amethyst Sheaffer Taranis, Medium Nib, and it got clogged up after a week. Multiple regular cleanings later and it still was not working, even with another ink! I soaked the nib in very hot water over a period of several hours to clean it out. I looked in the barrel and found the feed system covered in a film of this ink that had to be pried off with a Q-tip. That said, I think this ink would work better in a wetter pen, and should be avoided in F / XF pens, and less wet M pens.

Lovely ink! Used it in a broad nibbed Diplomat Magnum on Tomoe river paper. The video and photo speak for themselves.

Not suitable for all fountain pens, as the metal particles will sink to the lowest part of the pen's converter if the pen isn't shaken appropriately. Other than that, the ink is great!

Amethyste De L'Oural (Ural Mountain Amethyst) is the first ink in the J. Herbin 1798 Inks Collection. 1798 commemorates a special year in the history of Herbin, and a turning point in the history of France. Amethyste is a deep rich purple in the velvety hue of a rare gemstone. A silver mist provides a lustrous shimmering effect. The name Amethyste De L'Oural suggests the color of royalty. This ancient gemstone from the gates of Asia was prized for its calming, meditative and lucid dreaming qualities. J. Herbin is the oldest name in pen inks in the world. M. Herbin created “The Jewel of Inks” in his shop on the Rue des Fosses Saint-Germain in Paris in 1700.
