The very best help for strong memorization...
What I like best about these recordings is Alex. Scourby's masterful reading of the King James Bible. "Thee" and "thou" flow so naturally in his voice. This is very important, for reasons as follows. 1. When the Bible uses the words "thee" and "thou," the person being addressed in the text is a single, individual person. 2. When the Bible uses "you" and "ye," the persons being addressed are a group of people. This is no accident and is crucial for true understanding of the Bible. The original languages always distinguish between "thou" versus "you." For example, the Hebrew word "Elohim" is literally, "Gods," (plural), but the verb coupled with Elohim in the Bible, when speaking of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, is always strangely in the singular. And God is always address as "Thee" or "Thou," and "Thy" and "Thine." Ancient Jews realized early that God had multiple persons within a single entity: "Hear O Israel: YHVH our Gods (Elohim) is one YHVH." Deut. 6:4; "And the Spirit of Gods (Elohim) moved upon the face of the waters." Gen. 1:2; "Let Us make man in Our image." Gen. 1:26. Only in modern English language Bibles is God ever addressed in a technical plural. Not in any other language: Their current vocabulary easily handles the plural and singular "you" in the original Bible languages of Hebrew and Greek. Thus any translation without "thee," "thou," "thy" or "thine" is actually a mistranslation, because without those pronouns, much of the text becomes very misleading, e.g.: "Simon, Simon, behold Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren." (Luke 22:31-32) This passage takes on a very different meaning, if those "thee" and "thou" and "thy" words become just more "you" and "your" words. Just a short while after saying that, Jesus told Peter he would deny Him 3 times before the cock would crow. According to the above-cited passage in Luke, Peter couldn't have yet been converted. The other disciples may have been, but Peter wasn't. Once Peter was converted, his faith sometimes faltered, but didn't fail. And he was able to strengthen his fellow disciples on very many occasions recorded in the Bible. The "sifting as wheat" remark was speaking of a plural group, which means Jesus must have been speaking to Simon Peter about all His disciples. It shows too, that Satan wants to divide all disciples, separating them the way wheat is separated: Into coarse, fine, dark, light, or other differing types and gradations. The strategy of evil against Christianity is: "Divide and conquer," using a wedge of intrinsic and superficial traits. None of this is revealed through the modern English use of "you" and "yours" for all 2nd Person pronouns. Thousands of other examples and doctrines could be cited. Practically every language but English still has a "thee" and "thou" form. In English it had already disappeared by the time the King James version was completed in 1611. The truth of this statement is seen by the "Letter Dedicatory" in the front of many KJV Bibles, where "thee" and "thou" aren't used at all. The King James version translators had to dredge up those near-dead words from "olden days" in order to make an accurate translation. It's wonderful to hear the King James text so naturally spoken by Alexander Scourby, who practiced every chapter several times before the recordings were made. I love the durable CD format. Not nearly as prone to damage as the old-time cassette tapes. The wonderfully rugged nylon canvas case my CDs came in feels fabulously rugged, too. Thank you to Hendrickson Publishers for coming out with this great item at such an affordable price! One more tip to others: Repeated listening is a marvelous help for strong memorization. Try it in your car, on the boat, around the house; you'll see what I mean! Don't be afraid of the King James version; Christ is recorded in at least three places in the Bible saying, "Heaven and earth shall pass away but My words shall not pass away." The Greek texts of the New Testament from which the King James was translated never passed out of common use. Several other Greek texts, did pass away for centuries, until unearthed by modern textual critics. These "undead" Greek texts, discarded by early faithful copyists, are now pervading the Bible market. Many other Greek texts, copied by hand for centuries, corrected their divergent readings of the Greek, using texts obtained by translators for the King James version. Hear these recordings over and over, and thank God for His mercies.

Finally!
I could not be more pleased. Finally a Bible that I can really use to study. For example, right now I am studying Revelations. I am able to remove what pages I wish. Make notes and highlight as I please and then return those particular pages back to the main Bible. If you are studying a certain book in Bible study, you could do the same thing. There is a nice amount of space for notes in margins on each page. The 40lb. weight paper used for each page works well with Bible highlighters. I am using wet Bible highlighters and they don't bleed through. Now, be aware that this Bible is way too big and awkward to carry around in its entirety to church service in my opinion, but for study, it is perfect. I agree with the reviewer that said the pages will turn better if you remove the extra pages and the Concordance located at the end. I put them in another loose leaf. I highly recommend this Bible. The font is readable, though it is not large size I am afraid. But, that is what my reading glasses are for. Treat yourself. I thought the price here was spot on too.

Faith comes by hearing . . .
Alexander Scourby puts just the right amount of emphasis for drama and life into his narration to make the bible picturesque in your mind. It's wonderful to follow along in your bible while the CDs play and you hear the word of God. Reading silently along while listening is a somewhat slower way to read the bible, but it's more effective and interesting. All the CDs that I've listened to (have listened to some repeatedly, others not yet), play well. Several CDs have their internal labels messed up though. The CD that contains the book of Ezra, for example, is labeled correctly on he outside of the CD, but may have the chapters for the book of Matthew listed when you put it in your CD player. Alexander Scourby still reads Ezra, but when you resume your reading, it's difficult to know where to start the CD again. Seems to me there must be poor quality control when making this CD Bible. Yet I wouldn't sell, trade, or loan my copy out to anyone.

faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God
In my study of the Bible, I have found the King James Version to be particularly poetic and powerful, if not always the most accurate word for word translation. I study in particular the Proverbs, the Psalms, the Gospels, and some of the Epistles, for the time being. It is very helpful to me to actually hear the words being spoken because I think the message gets across better than if I merely read it silently from a written copy. I would recommend this set of CDs to anyone who wants to have the Bible, the Word of God, which is a living thing, enter into their heart. The Word of God is "sharper than any two edged sword" and is able to transform your life. I do recommend this version of the King James Bible, but there were some minor problems---- not every chapter of the Bible was able to be put on my computer, just a few had problems. But all in all, I am very satisfied with this spoken version.

The entire KJV! Exceptional reading & affordable.
I looked at a few complete KJV bible's read on CD before deciding on this one. I thought for 55.00 I would give it a shot. That being said, because the set IS only 55.00 - I wasn't too hopeful in the quality. I have to say, this is remarkably well read. I am going thru the NT first and I read along as it is narrated. This narrator is outstanding. For anyone who wants the King James Version on CD - I've no doubt you will enjoy this incredible set as much as I do. It would also make a really great gift. It's well packaged and the case the CD's come in is great. I can take it along with me wherever I go. I am grateful I found this on Smileamazon (check it out) for such an affordable price. Praise God and God Bless:)

Well worth the money!
Packed in a nice case, with each chapter of the bible clearly labelled on the cd's. I copied them onto a usb adapter that you insert a 32GB micro sd card into, and then added Chuck Misslers line by line bible commentaries as well. Now I can play it through the tv, or the stereo, or in the car, or I can transfer the micro sd card to my mp3 player when i go out walking, and its arranged so Alexander Scourby reads me a few chapters, and then I get an in depth bible commentary from Chuck Missler - in short, excellent!

worth the money
I purchased this audio cd set and I am glad I did. Would certainly suggest a friend do the same if they want a quality audio recording of the Authorized KJV. Alexander certainly makes the words of scripture come alive in a way the speaks to the very soul of man. Listening to the scriptures as read gives a different view that one would not receive when reading them alone. The Spirit of God certainly applies the word right to the very heart of man enlightening and renewing by the word of God. Of course, one needs to "receive" the word with all readiness of mind and be obedient in faith, in order to benefit from the sound of the word. That is entirely up to the hearer.

Een prachtige luister editie op cd formaat van de KJV 1611, laat het ware woord tot u komen!
Een prachtige luister editie op cd formaat van de KJV 1611, laat het ware woord tot u komen! Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. `.....................
