Hell Divers X: Fallout: Hell Divers Series, Book 10

Nicholas Smith has hit another home run with “Hell Divers X: Fallout.” A real page-turner, this exciting novel has intense combat action, palace intrigue, and unexpected plot twists.A familiar character, King Xavier “X” Rodriguez, the protagonist from previous Hell Divers books, plays the major role in this book. As an old guy who served 30 years in the Army and retired as a senior officer, I understood and appreciated the burden of command he faced daily. As a Vietnam veteran, I appreciated how the author employed vivid imagery and realistic scenes of combat.The characters are complex and fully developed. The author displays exceptional insight into how leaders handle crises as X has to weigh the welfare of the many against the lives of the few as he strives to ensure the survival of humanity. Other than X, my favorite character was Kade who is originally from Australia where I was lucky to have served two years in the mid-1970s.The author includes several perceptive statements and quotes about leadership:- “… stow his fear out of sight.” This thought by X recalled the quote by General Stonewall Jackson. “Never take counsel of your fears.”- “… I have seen countless people die… I don’t know why I’m still here when better men and women are not…” I struggle with this thought every day.- “Accept your past without regret.” Sage advice but difficult to do. I constantly relive bad decisions.- “So far, things weren’t going to plan, but in war things rarely did.” German military strategist Helmuth von Moltke sagely noted in 1880, "No battle plan survives contact with the enemy."I was impressed by the way the author began Hell Divers X with a recap and prologue and concluded with an epilogue foreshadowing additional adventures and challenges. I can hardly wait for Hell Divers XI.

As X and the Cazadores fight monsters and radiation on their journey to Panama, Rolo and Charmer secure their hold on the Metal Islands. Michael is in jail for killing a child and his father! Meanwhile, Kade is not winning hearts and minds of the Knights in their shiny armor. Just when things look hopeless, throw in a huge new monster bug the size of truck and dozens of spiny water bugs with pincers and claws. Teeth too!The man just knows how to tell a story! The storyline keeps the action divided by the different groups, groups of good guys, better guys and the scum sucking dogs that vilify the name of villains! Rolo and Charmer should be afforded a fair trial, then found guilty and sentenced to slow, tortured execution over the course of several days. I've seldom been so worked up by the villains, but those two must gotta go! Absolutely the best characters in Post-Apocalyptic survival thrillers, in my own humble opinion! X is such a strong hero, it takes two of the worst antagonists to counter him. But don't count out Layla!Almost the entire book is breathtaking, spellbinding, blood pounding, can't put it down long enough to catch a breath, fights! The last 100 pages held me rapt until the last drop of blood spilled from a bloody axe head. This is an amazing read!

After reading through 9 books expecting a conclusion, I was disappointed to discover the story goes on. Is there ever going to be an ending? Yes the story is good but how many mutated monsters can there be?The first 9 books were read using Kindle Unlimited. Book 10 cost over $5. What will Book 11 cost? Be prepared for pages of Book 10 to be rehashes of previous books.

Wow! Excellent! I read this in one sitting! I could NOT put this down at all!What can I say about this series that hasn't already been said? It's excellent - and the long haul story just keeps getting better and better! I can't wait for the next book!X and Miles survive yet again when the unthinkable happens, and they rise to the occasion despite the creeping effects of age. When duty calls, they answer without hesitation. New threats appear on the horizon! What happens? Read it for yourself! It's quite an exciting ride!I've been reading Nicholas Sansbury Smith's books and series for years - and I love everything that he has written thus far! Why? With each book he writes, the stories are better and better! He somehow keeps outdoing himself! I can say that his writing has certainly grown better with each book and series! (however, I find I can still go back and reread the other stories once again and still enjoy them immensely!) How many authors can you say that about? He stays true to people... no matter the situation. His world building is very vivid to where you can see it in your mind.Read this and some of his other work! You will be enthralled!

What a wild ride from this book! From soul turning sorrows to exhilarating cheers from the readers (inside, so we don't disturb the spouse's sleep) the writer just keeps getting better and better with his story telling!I've been following this author since his first series (Orbs) and let me tell you, he hasn't disappointed me in any way.Picking up from HD IX, we follow the trails of X and his Hell Divers and Cazadores allies from the bizarre lands of the Panama Canal to Australia. If you thought everything can kill you in Australia today, imagine 250 years of radiation fed mutations, where water bugs an cut through steel, spiders have human features, and of course the ubiquitous Sirens. Meet the last resident humans of the Coral Castle, where their elite soldiers wear medieval style armor. After a tragic dastardly deed by Captain Rollo, X is left with almost no options on how to get back to the Vanguard Islands. Plus an emergency radio message from Rodger and the men and women who were left in Panama while X continued on to Australia in search of radiation free lands and supplies does little to make X feel like a leader or The Immortal he's held up to be. The ending of this book, to me, is bittersweet, but also fulfils the reader's need for a conclusion to this story. BUT, it also opens up the possibility of other story lines to continue the Hell Divers saga. I can’t wait for HDXI !!!!!

Love the series and it’s a really good read. I was disappointed I paid over $20 for the book and it arrived damaged.

Action all the way threw, new monsters to fight, new enemies arise, some main characters are killed, it's an all action non-stop from beginning to the end.I absolutely loved this book, I would gladly recommend this.I can not wait for the next book.Thank you for a great read

From start to finish I curse my inadequate reading speed - I just want to know what happens next, and next, and next...The imagery, the action, X and crew are a ride a minute. You know you are hooked when you want to kick something each time the bad guy appears on the scene.10 books and still as gripping as the first - here's to many more!

After ten books the story is still getting stronger. Let's hope it's a short wait until the next book comes along.
