Q: Will this work on Mylar bags?

I don't think so I never tried.

Q: Can I use this with a canister? Which kind, please?

I bought this to use with Bell Mason jars but I also had to buy a set of plastic jar vacuum caps which fit the top of the Mason jars and lids so that the air tube can be connected with one end from the vacuum sealer and the other in the top of the plastic jar cap to extract the air. It is then removed from the top of the jar leaving the jar and its' metal cap tightly sealed. That is the intention but I have not used this method yet so can not say how well it will work. As a vacuum sealer of bags, it worked very well.

Q: Where do you put the black strip that has yellow tape that peels off.

I left it where it was as I think that protects the heating strip and it seems to work very well
