Excellent book for knowledge of the sport and it's history
I am beginning my rowing career for as long as it may last... starting at age 68. I thought it would be simple but after reading the book and starting the classes I am amazed at how complex it is. I appreciate all the subjects related in the book as to everything from what to eat to how to hold the oars and even to getting in and out of the boats.. I would highly recommend it to those just beginning and those who like to do it for them selves rather than taking a class. My only addition would be more photos mostly details like hand placement on the oars when working and resting and how to feather the oars in a sequence, dealing with foot placement with a more "actual photo setting", those sort of things, etc.

As the book title suggests "The Complete Manual". I read this book in conjunction with general books on rowing/sculling and although more descriptive and wordy it is a book that has complements and builds upon the other books I have purchased. I have no hesitation recommending this book. I am a late comer to rowing/sculling and reading about the more technical aspects of rowing/sculling is of interest.

It looks good to me
Brought for present for someone who rows. It looks good to me, a non rower.

Very good resource!
I've found this book extremely helpful with getting the basics right, although, much to my chagrin, I still rush up the slide! The mechanics behind sculling and sweeping are well-described, and I think this book is a great resource to have on hand. It also includes some basic fitness plans that may be useful for those who work out on their own (without a coach).

Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream!
Given to my nephew Sebastian (Seb) who, at 16 is over 6ft tall and an ardent and very competent rower for his school. The information contained within this volumes has filled in the few gaps in his knowledge of this sport, the book was enthusistically received.
