This unit did not come with any kind of a manual explaining how to use it so had to figure out that on my own. It also didn’t come with a 12V wall wart or even a compatible plug that I could connect to my own power supply. Fortunately, I had an older 12V/1A wall wart with a compatible plug and polarity (+ on center; - on outer).The unit has a display with five fields: frequency; output signal level in dB (highest signal level is -70dBm or about S9); CTCSS tone in Hz; audio modulation (frequency in kHz, indicated by K); and firmware serial number (v21.8 in my case). The first four of these are selected with the F1 key and selection is indicated by a < or > symbol that points to the selected field.The front panel keyboard has number keys, four function keys (F1, F2, F3 & F4); an up arrow key; and a down arrow key. The number keys are for direct entry of frequency, power output level or CTCSS tone. The up/down arrow keys allow step increasing of each of these fields. The F3 key has different functions depending upon which F1 field is selected. In the power output level function, it turns the output power on/off (toggle). In the CTCSS tone F1 function, it turns CTCSS subaudible tone on/off. In the audio modulation F1 field, it cycles between, /, 0, 1, 2 & 3; with the 1, 2 & 3 being kHz FM modulation tones but it’s not clear what the / means.Function key F2 is a single digit backspace/clear during entry to any of the three fields (freq, dBm or CTCSS).Function key F4 does not seem to have any function that I could find.Overall, this will be useful to me for what I purchased it for but four stars due to lack of power supply and manual.

This is a simple device to generate precisely the frequency you key in for vhf and hf receivers (radios). It has a bnc connector on the front for direct cable connect. It does not come with a power supply however ??? But takes a standard plug 12 vdc + center tap plug. It also has other capabilities I have not yet had time to play with for testing radio functions like squelch, etc. It does have a back lite 2 line lcd display to see the characters clearly. If you are into radio communications then this maybe a nice way for you to test out your equipment and functions. I do have to remove a star because I did not get the power supply with my unit.
