American Girl Character Encyclopedia

This was a great gift for my daughter who is learning to read. There are a lot of pictures that keep her visually interested and she is working on reading about all the different characters. Her older brother loves to read the book too and finds it very interesting. It's so fun to have the history of American girl dolls in one book!

In 1986 the Pleasant Company released the first American doll. In this book with 5 chapters, I count 74 different dolls. From the BeFore characters of the past to the contemporary dolls of the present, Girl Of The Year, you have them all in Nevplace. The authors, Carrie Anton and Erin Fallingant, have produced a remarkable to,e of the American Doll, their accessories, and everything that goes into the American Doll world. Chapter 1 contains a page of each doll, her name, history, something interesting about her, and what occurred in the yearof this doll. Remarkable photography, and I cannot find the name(s’) Of the photographers. Chapter 2 has the dolls pets and gives a resume of everything this pet means to the doll, and the name of the pet. Chapter 3 explores the Perfect Pasttimes, the sports, the dancing, art, what 5he dolls explore 8n their world. Chapter 4 explains the Amazing Places these dolls go to. A tree house, the rain forest, wherever the dolls go to find inspiration. Chapter 5 talks about Girls on the go. What mode of transportation do the girls use to mfind their inspiration and explore the world. There is a Character Gallery and the date the doll was inspired. Then, a Truly Me place, the dolls that really express themselves, and onto the Animal gallery, the BeFore accessory gallery, the Truly Me and Girl Of The year accessory pages. And, finally the Index, 208 pages Of The American Doll, and almost everything you would like to know about them. My granddaughter’s local library has a lending American Doll library. This is wonderful, a new and different American Girl doll loaned out for a week. Every girl in her town has access to this librRy, and what a treat! Recommended. prisrob 06-08-18

Purchased this for my 2.5 year old grandchild. She loves it, lays on the floor for an hour or more just going through the pages over and over. I am sure her little self is thinking of all the wonderful fun she will have. She is surely fascinated with this book! She has a new Willa, Welle Wisher doll coming for her tomorrow to add to the fun! Shhhhh, don't tell her! :)

American Girl Character Encyclopedia This is a great book, for visual identification of the many American Girl dolls. It is the most current book, it shows all the historical dolls with the new, not-quite-accurate-historical-colors-or-prints BeForever costumes. Unfortunately, this is not a book to buy if you are a serious doll collector. Each doll has two pages devoted to basic information, and some interesting USA tidbits of what was happening in the world and country at the time of the doll's time. After the doll section there is a basic rundown of all the pets belonging to each girl. It's light reading and helps you identify the various Girls if you purchase a doll on the secondary/tertiary markets. I'm a grandma, and it was quite illuminating for me to see AG dolls that I didn't know had their year or kept up to date. Now, I'm up to date. I recommend this book for girls of all ages.

Very cool.book

What a fun book. Girls of all ages will love looking through this. Including adults! If you're an American Girl fan this is a must have for your library! It's kinda like a wish book.

I was hoping this would be a book that showed pictures of all characters, outfits, and accessories/furniture ever sold. This book doesn't have that unfortunately. It's still nice. It does have info on most dolls (even the retired ones), but it's missing Nanea. That was a disappointment since I'm reading the Nanea books with my daughter right now. Other than that, I've enjoyed looking at it with my daughter. It has some of the outfits, furniture, pets, and accessories sold but not all. It's a good starting point though for getting information about each BeForever doll.

I love the size of this book... sadly I purchased this item in used-acceptable condition but I was dissatisfied with the condition it came in. I was ok with the fact that it had a name in it and expected some wear... but not happy that the binding was broken and pages were torn. The pages were in rough shape too! 😬 I’d return it except my girlies really like the book. I just wish I bought from a thrift store for a fraction of the price... because that’s what it’s worth!!
