Fantasic does everything i wanted it to do and more

We purchased this machine for our podcast “The Whisperboy Podcast” and we are relatively satisfied with it. You can expect low hum, high treble, and medium bass. This machine is capable of making your voice sound rich and radio quality too if you know what you’re doing. Currently this machine is the best in its class. Bit pricey but it will be worth it in the end. The best thing about this machine is the fact that it balances audio levels up and makes the voice sound better. Update: the machine’s recording disappears and we have not been able to resolve the issue. The Australian customer service has not been helpful and referred us to the UK customer service and they asked us to send the machine to them :(

Switched from a razer mixer because I kept having issues every time the software updated (do not recommend that product for anybody). This product was perfect for all of my needs, as I have a 2 pc set up for streaming, an XLR MIC, and an Atem Mini Pro which I use as a glorified Capture card for multiple console devices (it can do so much more but it was cheaper for me at the time then setting up multiple capture cards for my games). This allows me to individually control my audio on the computer, such as my music, game volume, and system volume, as well as my ATEM for my gaming consoles, and my microphone. The colours are customizable, and you can even set up voice changers or sound effects with the buttons, and add your own sounds.

Speechless when it comes to this Røde product. It has everything you need in a desk. Just buy it!

I’ve been a big fan of Rode and its products, but I write this review based on my long experience with audio production. Rodecaster Pro 2 is better than Rodecaster Pro in every way, but there is one big issue: TRRS input for connecting to mobile phones is no longer there. You have to use the extra USB port to connect it to your phone, which causes many issues. Here I explore the USB solutions first before diving into the problems. Solution 1: If you are using an iPhone, you need to connect you phone with Rode MFI-certified USB C to Lightning cable (SC15 or SC19), which only transfers audio but doesn’t support charging your phone simultaneously. If you’re planning to use to your phone for long hours (like Clubhouse), it’s a big headache. If your phone has wireless charging capability (i.e iPhone 10/11/12/13), that needs to be attached to the back of your phone separately. Solution 2: connect your iPhone to Rodecaster with Apple USB to Lightning adaptor (the one with USB A + Lightning on one end and Lightning on the other end), which allows you to charge your phone and use any USB A to USB C cable to transfer the audio to Rodecaster simultaneously. Here is the BIG Problem in both cases: in both cases Rodecaster and USB adapter act as an external sound card and iPhone doesn’t route audio through them during cellular phone calls. (obviously an Apple restriction not Rode’s) Solution: you’ve got to use Whatsapp or other applications to send audio through the rodecaster. But here is another BIGGER Problem: if you disconnect the lightning cable and connect it back, the sound will come out of the iPhone speakers and won’t go through rodecaster anymore (unless you hang up and call back again). This issue happens intermittently and not always on all applications. But for applications like Clubhouse, you’ve got to close the app and open it again to send the audio through Rodecaster. The TRRS input on Rodecaster Pro (previous version) was amazing as it always sends the audio through rodecaster when used with Apple lightning to TRRS adapter (the old 3.5mm headphone adaptor you used to connect your headset to lightning port after Apple removed the 3.5 headset jack). That 3.5 to lightning adaptor always works even during the normal cellular phone calls and even if you disconnect and connect the iPhone several times. With that the audio always goes through Rodecaster. Plus that allowed me to use Apple iPhone Dock/Stand, which charges the iPhone and has the TRRS (headset) port too. Belkin also has an adaptor wihtout needing the stand. Some say you should use Bluetooth but the audio quality of the bluetooth is nothing comparable to direct USB and TRRS quality. Removing TRRS is a big oversight and I hope Rode finds a way to add that back, perhaps as an add-on USB module!

This is a nice looking item, but once you look under the bonnet you can see and hear the quality is not as good as the looks. The recording levels are so very low, and you cannot adjust them. they sound loud when you tweak the gains as high as they go, but once you save your item your recording and then play it back, it sounds so extremely quiet, its almost faint. I tried many other ways, and its not the cables or any sockets or my pc, its this item, that I soon found out many others had also had the same problem with and they too could not rectify this issue, but returned the item as I did for a refund. RODE please sort this out, its really poor quality sounds this pushes out and certainly NOT worth the money we pay for it. NO good for gaming at all..DO NOT BUY for this option.

Best bit off kit out there for some one who can't afford expensive stuff but wants an expensive experience...would highly recommend to anyone looking for a bit of quality kit that has many different uses .

(Review updated June 4, 2023) When it comes to anything technical about the device: if you can't find it on the site, safe to just assume they won't tell you. Sometimes it would be nice to know just a little more about the internals but each time I ask I'll get a generic response about not being able to provide this information. For a technical product this is a bit of a bummer and I hope that changes and they become more open with developers. This includes innocent things like what Bluetooth codecs it supports. They've built this on the hard work of others who contributed to opensource software and Linux but Rode themselves are currently not so eager to do the same. They have many YouTube videos showing the insides and features, but it's all secretly just self-promotion bragging about how revolutionary everything is and how they've started from the ground up. WITH THAT SAID they're one of few companies that actually pick up a phone and talk to you. So while they may not give me the technical details I want, at least they're not completely hidden from view and impossible to reach. The people you can reach by phone have always been friendly. UPDATES AND BETA FIRMWARE This has a lot going for it as an almost standalone unit. The vendor is still releasing updates regularly, and even without the updates it works right out of the box. However I really wish they would be more open about the technical stuff. To get at most of the fun stuff, you'll need to run the BETA firmware they offer. If you run this, they won't even attempt to support you or accept your bug reports. BLUETOOTH The Bluetooth (when connected to mobile) stays connected but after many hours the actual audio portion of it crashes. Because everything like logs are hidden from view you'll never know why. The only way to get audio back is restarting the device. I've tried several Android phones at this point and all the same issue. The "Disconnect Bluetooth" button on the RCP becomes non-responsive. The audio supported by Bluetooth is basic, low quality and has a lot of latency as you would expect when using the cheapest possible Bluetooth hardware. If you plan to use Bluetooth for mobile audio I would just reconnect it at the start of each day and you're likely fine. For me this is annoying because I forget to do this and it's only a matter of time till the connection drops. If you need better audio from a mobile device just connect it directly using the audio inputs. ACCESSORIES Getting your hands on accessories (like the dust cover) is was nearly impossible in Canada except as a special order item or shipping from cross-boarder. Might I suggest B&H (who I believe also might sell on here). SLIDERS Overall the sliders feel great but I think they missed the boat when omitting motorized sliders like other streaming products. They're ahead of others by featuring nice metal components here but regardless there's something magical about seeing them move on their own. NETWORKED: BUT IT'S NOT FOR YOU It's online for whatever reason (firmware updates supposedly needing this 24/7 online access... what?) but there's zero fun you can have with that. You can't control anything remotely, there's no public API, and basically zero information about it. If you ask about it you'll get a canned response. If you want to do anything using their software it'll take place over USB and proprietary software. LINUX SUPPORT As of Ubuntu 23.04 I was able to get both Main and Chat working with Pulse at the same time without needing extra hardware or hacks. I don't know who to thank for this since Rode won't comment, but a huge thank you to whoever solved this!
