Q: Does it come with a shorter rod as well?

It comes with standard 6" inch rod. I purchased a 24" matching rod for my installation.

Q: Was the remote included with this purchase?

Yes, a hand held remote was included.

Q: Can the fan and light be wired to and controlled separately two separate wall switches?

The fan comes with a handheld remote that controls both the light and the fan. However, if you do not use the remote and receiver that you wire in during installation on the fan (included), you can wire the fan to a wall control and the light to a wall control. You would not use/install the receiver and remote. The fan wiring harness has independent wires for the light and the fan - so yes you can wire them to separate switches/controls.
