True to specification, quality product
Purchased to use for the main speakers in a home theater setup, thought I'd check it against some other 12 and 14 awg wires I had around (see photos). Cut off about 1.75" of each wire and removed copper from insulation. Measured weight of metal from each core using a precision balance: 0.2 g: Pyramid Power 12 awg (see other review) 0.4 g: Monster XP 14 awg purchased around 2000, discontinued in 2018 0.8 g: hardware store 14 gauge purchased in ~2012 1.2 g: Installgear 12 awg purchased here on Amazon (this wire) Checking the official dimensions for stranded copper wire, this wire is right on spec at ~18 pounds/1000 ft. Only this and the generic hardware store wire met spec. The Monster wire is labeled as 14 awg on the sheath but was later marketed as 16 awg, which would have been more accurate. I did not take a long enough piece off each spool to measure the resistance of the different wires (I didn't want the hassle). Of the four, the Installgear has the nicest handling and looks good with it's smoked insulation, although I could not verify the OFC claim and it had no special features in its construction. The Monster wire is genuinely complicated. It has two outer layers of insulation and a clear plastic core that the copper strands run around. If it were available as 12 gauge I would have bought more although I expect it would be more expensive per foot than the Installgear. For the price, accuracy of specification, quality of construction and availability I give this wire 5 stars.

Good Thick Copper
This is excellent quality speaker cable, I have bought two spools at this point. Have no reason to switch, the copper is generous and to spec, the shielding is quality and has stayed pliant and like new for 5 years

... the job of remaking cables for my six Focal Super (sleepy) Bird speakers
I got excited as I began the job of remaking cables for my six Focal Super (sleepy) Bird speakers. I was not happy with the first wire I chose because of the mediocre quality, very brittle, neither did my birds, sing like they should, they sang like Barney Fife on the Addy Griffith show, now that is below terrible. However, this wire is without question the best cable I have ever used, that about 50 years. The wire is perfect when used with banana plugs or any cable making you may do of your own. It’s crazy, the wire is so soft I wanted to make a bed of it, to sleep in. But at the same time the wires in the cable are super strong and well wrapped to decrease resistance and increase speed! Check it with your ohm meter, as I did. I just get excited when I purchase a product of any kind which meets or in this case exceeds the makers description. Most of the time it’s a shot in the dark, if we are first buyers in line. Many sellers out there misrepresent their product in one way or another. I would recommend this product to the pickiest of the picky, I confess, I am one of the pickiest! Keep up the excellent work InstallGear, making this awesome cable. The cable absolutely makes a difference in sound quality. Use InstallGear Cable then hear and feel the difference, my birds did they are now truly flying like Super Birds and they sound fantastic too, I can hear the music now, yes cable makes a difference. Always keep the chain strong use the best wire, like InstallGear. InstallGear knows that or they would not have made this cable like they have, help produce the sound our ears and body can enjoy. Hey, God Bless All!

Nice speaker wire, with one exception...
Overall, there is not much I can complain about - the speaker wire is an accurate 12GA, with nice thin copper strands, and the shielding is flexible so it lays nice. However, keep in mind if you need to pull the positive and negative strands apart, the softness of the shielding is also a bad feature. I am wiring the internals of a self-designed and built, fully active 3-way. In order to have small holes in the midrange/tweeter box to seal with silicone, I need to separate the negative and positive leads for a good 15 or so inches so one wire passes through each drilled hole. I could drill out a larger hole and pass the combined wire through, but that would yield a much larger hole to seal with silicone in order to keep the midrange box air tight. When attempting to pull the 2 wires apart, the negative lead (lighter colored wire) tends to split in the middle because the darker colored wire pulls more of the shielding with it. If I am super careful and push my fingernail into the edge closest to the dark colored wire I can get it to separate with the shielding still intact on both wires, but this is quite tedious and kills your fingers after awhile. I have never had this problem with any other speaker wires. Most of them will pull apart into two individual wires easily as long as you don't grip it and rip it. Even gingerly pulling on this wire results in splits along the inner middle of the light colored wire. This may be a fairly unique situation, but I have also separated wires to connect the coils on DVC subwoofers in parallel, so it is not that uncommon. Honestly, the wire is still quite nice, so I am giving it a 4 out of 5. If you have a situation like mine though, I would suggest going with a different wire just to save the headache of tediously pulling the two wires apart without damage and exposed wire.

There's No Need to Look Further, This Is Your Speaker Wire
This is the best speaker wire I've ever used. There's no point in looking any further; if you need some good-quality, easy to install 12-gauge speaker wire, this is the stuff. I had some long runs along baseboard with some gradual and some 90-degree inside bends, and this speaker wire lay flat and secure against the baseboard without any of the usual battle. The insulation is just right. It's flexible enough to make the bends and lie flat where you need it to, but has enough body to stay in place. I don't know why there are reviews saying the wire isn't "true" 12-gauge. It fit the 12 AWG wire stripper I had perfectly. The wire itself is finely stranded, and it worked well with my banana plugs. The individual strands are fine enough that they are very flexible and I don't think a single one broke bending them to conform to the lock of the banana plugs. I'm very pleased with this wire, and won't hesitate to buy it next time I need some.

Solid OFC
It’s speaker wire so that’s what I’m using it for and not with the tiny but awesome D class stereo amp shown in the picture. (I’ll get some awesome tiny speaker wire for that). I like the price and the fact that it is actually solid OFC and it would appear, true 12 awg. I don’t care what it sounds like. Having impaired high frequency hearing means I probably wouldn’t notice a difference in sound if indeed there is any. What I like is it’s propensity for soldering and less prone to kinking. These are practical and objective concerns and in my opinion, worth paying a bit more for but not as much as for some other brands that begin with the letter ‘M’ that I am so not going to mention here. If anyone says this is CCA? I cut exact same three foot lengths from this coil and the CCA I bought in ignorance, and weighed them. The CCA weighed 50 grams and the OFC 91 grams. If you are concerned about the quality? Go buy wire made by a company with a name that starts with the letter ‘M’. You’ll be fine.

An excellent buy!
The cable arrived quickly and it very good shape, looked brand new. The spools were heavy like they should be, the strands were dense and plentiful, the jackets easy to cut off but the cables slid nicely and didn't show signs of wear from being pulled over objects. As others have mentioned the mid-range sounded a touch deeper and more depth to it and the highs sounded a little more detailed and clean. The cabling is being used to setup a brand new RSL 5.1 surround setup that was using ACC wiring. As soon as I found out that the Amazon Basics 16awg wiring was ACC I knew I needed to get new cabling. Good cabling at a good price!

Quality Speaker Wire
I was impressed with the quality of this wire. It is easily 12ga. I had to use the 10ga setting on my wire stripper to avoid damaging the strands. I cut the 100 foot length in half and I'm running two 50 foot cables. The sound is full and rich compared to the undersize clear speaker wire I was previously using. There is a noticeable improvement especially at higher volumes. I also purchased gold plated 2-screw banana plugs which enabled easy connection to my amplifier.

Perfecto funcionamiento
