The Best Bette

I recently told a friend, "Once you've seen one Bette Midler concert, you've seen them all!" That's because she always gives so much in every performance but still maintains variety and freshness in her approach and arrangements. I rate her as the female performer of my lifetime. I have been a fan since the release of her first single and the Divine Miss M album way back in the early 1970s and had the joy of first seeing Bette perform live 3 times during her EXTENDED Australian visit in 1978 as well as every Australian tour since then. My biggest regret is that I never managed to see her perform in Las Vegas.Of course, the earlier performances were Bette in all her bawdy glory but as she has matured and become "America's Diva" she has toned things down quite a bit but still alludes to her prior self. As she says in the recording of her Las Vegas 2 year extravaganza "The Showgirl Must Go On", thirty years ago all her audiences were on drugs and now they are on medication...This CD is yet another "Best of..." collection but can you ever have too much Bette? The DVD disc is the Diva Las Vegas show which I already own as it was released in Australia some time ago. I have no qualms in doubling (or tripling!) up on any Bette products as I have friends in NYC who know Bette personally and they have told so many heartwarming stories about her generous and personable qualities that I believe she deserves every cent she earns.Just be aware that the DVD is Region 2 - as pointed out clearly in the product description - and will more than likely NOT play on US players.

Hi, I really like the cd, has a good cross-selection of Bette's material from later albums, and early songs like 'In The Mood' that didn't make her earlier 'Experience the Divine' cd hits collection, so even if you have a greatest hits by Bette, you'll still wind up with TEN songs that weren't on her earlier 'hits' collection. (There are 22 songs on the cd).As for the dvd, it's always been clearly stated here on Amazon that it is a Region 2 dvd, so to give this release a lower rating because it doesn't play on "your" dvd player or computer seems like self-serving buyer's remorse from someone who had the information available of what the item was, and not a real rating, at all.The dvd is her 'Diva Las Vegas' concert, which for some odd reason, never has been commercially available in the US. It's a welcome addition to my Bette collection, and I assume most viewers will check to see if their dvd player(s) will play other region dvds before buying it!So, five stars for the cd, for somehow finding other 'hits' to include, no small feat, when she hasn't really had any new hits since her earlier greatest hits cd! But, repackaging is such a big part of any releases we get from labels who still bother at all with "mature" artists, and at least there is a very liberal handful of ten songs that weren't on 'Experience The Divine'.The live dvd is a good show, and as there haven't been many Bette concert tours released on DVD, it's great to have this- I believe the last official live concert of Bette's available on DVD is 'Divine Madness', so 5 stars also for the REGION 2 DVD :)

I ordered this used CD/DVD set after watching an older You Tube video of Bette during her Las Vegas run. She said that all of her hits were on it as well as a DVD taken from her show. I haven't watched the DVD yet but I have listened to the CD several times. 22 songs are certainly worth the price and I am only disappointed that "In This Life" from "Bette of Roses" is not included.

I discovered too late that I purchased a DVD that I won't get to view. Yes, the DVD region code label for the THE BEST BETTE is posted. Unfortunately, my unfamiliarity with DVD codes resulted in disappointment. The CD is great -- no surprise about that. But don't select this item if you're hoping to watch the DVD unless you can or will be able to play Region 2 DVDs; the USA and Canada are NOT in Region 2. I wish that Amazon's description had made that clear.

Love Bette and loved the CD. However, the bonus DVD does not play in the US.I did not understand the what "PAL/Region 2" meant until after receiving the product.However as I used my Amazon points to purchase the item, I just kept it and play the CD over and over.

The Divine One at her very best. The shining jewel in this set is the DVD. Don't let the region code make you miss her performance.If you purchase an all region player for around $55 (this one works great for me -- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004BI6MVS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00) you can play this PAL DVD and other discs from multiple regions. Eliminate the barrier and enjoy the whole world's DVDs.

I thought this would be a good collection of Bette Midler songs. I like The Best Bette CD, but the Diva Las Vegas DVD is useless. Can't play it on my computer or DVD player. I thought I was getting two great products packaged into one, but instead I have one great CD and an expensive coaster. Why is this even offered in the US if it's not the US format? Argh.

The CD is great! It has all of Bette's best songs on one disc.The DVD is in a PAL (European) format and does not play on American DVD players; however, it played perfectly in my computer's CD-ROM drive. I don't know if it would play equally well on others' computers...

Bette Midler is campy, eclectic and the artist with a capital A. The CD includes all of her greatest hits and some highlights from main albums, but it's only an introduction. There are even many better songs scattered all over her albums than some included here. And the DVD of Las Vegas performance, it's the essence of the diva with her unique humour. If you like her, get this. And those who don't know the lady, are probably in for a pleasant surprise.

If you love Bette Midler, then you will love this collection of Bette Midler singing and performing on stage. It is funny, very entertaining and shows Bette at her best. The DVD shows her performing in Las Vegas and it is something you can watch many times over. Buy it for yourself or give as a gift to anyone who enjoys the talents of Bette Midler, you and they will both be thrilled. This is excellent value for money.

fantastic cd/dvd is a a great bonus, saw bette on her recent divine intervention tour in manchester, cant stop watching this dvd and cd played constantly in the car, her music especially her ballads touch something deep with in each soul Only a very special person has the skill to be able to do that .
