Do these explode like the lava rocks?

No, they do not explode! They are prettier than I thought they would be and are very shimmery in our fire pit. We've been very happy with them :)

I have gas logs in my fireplace. can I use these only as decor in the fireplace?

I would think so and in fact be a beautiful addition. We have gas logs in our fireplace that includes material under the logs that make it look like tiny embers when heated. Adding the glass would seem only to enhance. I think I will try it. I am no expert but this glass gets heated very high and no issues. It seems it would be the same with gas as with propane.

Whats the difference between this and the glass at dollar tree in the bags?

Absolutely nothing except I think you get only a very small amount for 1.00 tho.
