Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor star in one of thegreatest musicals ever filmed. Musician Don Lockwood (Kelly) rises tostardom during Hollywood's silent-movie era--paired with the beautiful ,jealous and dumb Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen). When Lockwood becomesattracted to young studio singer Kathy Selden (Reynolds), Lamont has herfired. But with the introduction of talking pictures, audiences laughwhen they hear Lockwood speak for the first time--and the studio usesSelden to dub her voice. Set during the advent of "talkies," this film'sclassic song-and-dance numbers celebrate the beginning of moviemusicals. Review: Never looked better - This has to be the definitive version of this great classical musical. The UHD is superb. The colors are bright in Dolby Vision making this happy musical a must have for fans. 👏📽️🎬🎭☂️🌧️🎶 Review: Great version of a classic movie - The 3-strip negative for this movie was destroyed in a fire at the Eastman House back in the 90s, so this version was created from a high-quality print. But you'd be hard pressed to see any evidence of this - it looks and sounds fantastic. Blu-Ray is the same as the previous release, good, but outclassed by the 4K in every way. Extras are good, but I wish they had included the deleted musical numbers that were present on the DVD (Gene Kelly singing "All I Do Is Dream of You", audio only; Debbie Reynolds singing "You Are My Lucky Star, audio and video). I did notice one two-star review complaining that the movie wasn't 4K UHD because it was in the 4:3 screen ratio. Ignore this bit of idiocy - most movies of the sound era before 1953 were filmed in the 4:3 ratio, including Singin' In The Rain. The widescreen ratios now usually used didn't start coming into vogue until the early 1950s, starting with The Robe (filmed in Cinemascope), released one year after Singin' In The Rain. While technically this does mean that the film isn't 4K, as it doesn't fill the screen horizontally, it does fill the screen vertically with all 2160 lines of resolution, and is substantially higher in resolution than the standard Blu Ray. And it has the HDR10 grading for higher dynamic range.

Delightful and fun musical that remains one of the best!!
One of the most iconic musicals, Singin' in the Rain remains a fun and delightful film over 70 years after its release. With co-direction from Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen and a script by Betty Comden and Aloph Green, Singin' in the Rain is brought to life in full technicolor wonder. In 1927, silent films are still captivating audiences and Donald "Don" Lockwood is a popular actor who, along with many stars, are facing the coming of talking pictures. While his voice works well for sound, Don is not the talented actor he thought and faces the end of his career until the idea of creating his latest film, The Dueling Cavalier, into a musical using his vaudeville background to excel. With help from new girlfriend, Kathy, and best friend, Cosmo, all three work to make the production a success and hope their stardom continues. Singin' in the Rain is a delightful and fun musical that continues to captivate and inspire audiences. With lyrics by Arthur Freed and music by Nacio Herb Brown, the film has iconic and memorable songs such as "Good Morning" and "Sinigin' in the Rain" that were previously seen in other musicals. The dance numbers, choreographed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, are themselves iconic. "Good Morning" which featured an in sync dance number of Kelly with Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor has them going up and down stairs and over a couch, which according to Reynolds, was redone so many times her feet bleed. The iconic "Singin in the Rain" dance number features Gene Kelly singing and dancing in the pouring rain on an empty street with his umbrella. The scene has become not only an icon but an example of dedication and commitment as Kelly had a 103 degree fever when filming. Singin' in the Rain is a delightfully fun musical with a good story, great characters, some comedy, and an overall fun watch! Perfect to add to your physical media library in picture perfect blu-ray!

What can you say? It's a classic.
Chances are good that you already know this musical. But this new BluRay edition makes it almost like a brand new friend. The sound is great--fresh but not overdone--and the colors and detail simply jump off the screen. If I had to quibble, I might say the video is a little saturated: frame-by-frame inspection will turn up quite a few artifacts. But it's barely a quibble. It looks wonderful. Any viewer will have a favorite performance in this movie (it's not a film. It's a MOVIE) and I couldn't argue with any choice. Whether it's the gung-ho work of Debbie Reynolds, the confident grace of Gene Kelly or the lithe and acrobatic Donald O'Connor, you couldn't pick a loser. For me, the standout has always been Jean Hagen as Lina Lamont. She's a marvelous combination of mean and stupid, with a voice that will spoil every drop of milk in your refrigerator. This is one of the funniest women since Judy Holliday or Gracie Allen. If you're new to musical theater, start here. No other musical has been so appropriate for the big screen. I can only warn that one tune or another will be stuck in your head for days.

Fantastic musical that seems ageless!
This is one of those musicals that just gets better and better—I find something new in every single watch. Its stars are among the best, the songs are terrific, the performances are tops, the art direction is wonderful. I bought the 4K UHD because it was on sale for a great price—I don't have the proper player for the 4K, but anticipate that someday I'll break down and purchase one. The set came with the blu-ray too (1080 HD, apparently the same release as the one sold as standalone blu-ray), and that looks much much better than the previous release on DVD. Good extras too. Nothing here not to love like crazy.

Dignity. Always, dignity.
When this classic musical was released, it lived in the shadow of Gene Kelly's magnum opus "American in Paris". That 1951 film won several Oscars and gave audiences a taste of Kelly's genius. It featured the stunning dance fantasy with Kelly and Leslie Caron. But as history would show it would be the "lesser" film that became the real star over the decades. Singin' in the Rain is now rightly regarded as one of the great movie musicals of all time. I would think at this point that a vast majority of humans on the planet can hum a few bars of the iconic rain-soaked song sequence. And I'd put up the smoldering dance fantasy here with Cyd Charisse and Kelly up against anything in American cinema. Yet, there's so much more to enjoy. Donald O'Conner's "Make Em Laugh" number still stuns today in its athleticism, artistry and bruise inducing risks. Kelly was known to push his co-stars to the edge and the results are consistently beyond the normal mainstream movie expectations of that time. The "Moses Supposes" sequence features tap that is equal to Gregory Hines, the Nicholas Bros. and Fred Astair. Jean Hagen's comedic turn as Lina Lamont almost steals the show several times. That voice! Then, there's the debut performance of a young teenage Debbie Reynolds who not only holds her own with all these heavyweights but adds another layer of dancing and singing excellence. If you are not grinning from ear to ear with joy from the beginning to ending frames you might need repeat watching's! Add in a wonderful Dolby Vision HDR remaster, clear as a bell surround sound and this is a true must have in the collection.

Shall we dance?
The dance routines are incredible - the storyline was corny but designed to just move you into the next dance routine- so forgivable - all in all fun to watch

Musical masterpiece
Hard to understand how the Academy Awards passed on this movie, especially after heralding "An American in Paris" the year before. Highly entertaining. Downside: After successfully blending the musical numbers into the plot through much of the movie, there are a couple of song and dance (mostly dance) numbers in the second half of "Singing in the Rain" that saved a definite "tacked on" feel. They simply don't belong to the plot in any way. They have the feel of older, dated musicals, where the formula was "a few minutes of light romance, then a dance number totally unrelated to anything, repeat this sequence for ~90 minutes."

Excellent remastered version
The video is excellent, with great colours that pop, and looked amazing. The sound track was also cleaned up and sounded wonderful. I highly recommend the 4K version of this upbeat, funny movie.

Zingin' in the Rain. USA Single Disc Version
As all my friends know SITR is not my favourite movie, others class it as the Citizen Kane of musicals (I cannot stand Kane either and many years ago chatted at length with Welles on the subject when I was recording commercial voiceovers with him) Back to SITR this is a massive move forward in quality and of course Technicolors 3 strip original negs are brought to tantalise the screen. See it on the the biggest screen you can and if you are not like me you will love it.
