New York Times bestselling author and medical intuitive Caroline Myss has found that when people donโt understand their purpose in life the result can be depression, anxiety, fatigue, and eventually physical illnessโin short, a spiritual malaise of epidemic proportions. Myssโs experience of working with people led her to develop an insightful and ingenious process for deciphering your own Sacred Contractโor higher purposeโusing a new theory of archetypes that builds on the works of Jung, Plato, and many other contemporary thinkers. Myss examines the lives of the spiritual masters and prophetsโAbraham, Jesus, Buddha, and Muhammadโwhose archetypal journeys illustrate the four stages of a Sacred Contract and provide clues for discovering your own. Myss explains how you can identify your particular spiritual energies, or archetypesโthe gatekeepers of your higher purposeโand use them to help you find out what you are here on earth to learn and whom you are meant to meet. Exploring your Sacred Contract will shine a light on the purpose and meaning of your life. You are meant to do certain tasks, you are meant to have certain relationships. In coming to know your archetypal companions, you also begin to see how to live your life in ways that make the best use of your personal power and lead you to fulfill your greatestโin fact, your divineโpotential. Both visionary and practical, Sacred Contracts is a bold, powerful work of spiritual wisdom. Without a doubt, your most intriguing challenge in life is to recognize your spiritual commitments and live them to the fullest. Review: Amazing tool for self discovery! - The idea is that we made "contracts" before coming to this earth, and we play them out every day. When we feel a "zing" of recognition at meeting someone, or feel like we'd like to choke them, we are experiencing animation...a divine connection that says "Hey, I have a contract with you!" In Sacred Contracts, Myss weaves together Christian, Buddhist, and other traditions, shwoing how the central religious figures (Jesus, Buddha, etc.) walked out *their* contracts on the earth. The most interesting part, for me, was the discovery of personal Archetypes and the casting of the Wheel. I could see myself and others in the "Fab Four" Archetypes common to all (Victim, Saboteur, Child, and Prostitute), as well as the individual Archetypes that we draw on most in our life. Archetypes are energies and characteristics we us to fulfill our specific contracts in the world. We use archetypal language every day: "I'm tired of fighting this!" (Warrior), or "She acts like the Queen of England" (Queen) etc. It's not hocus pocus...it's the realization that we take on certain energies and dramas in our life that assist us in our individual Who and Why. Many Archetypes "dance" with each other...Knight with Damsel, Rescuer with Addict, Student with Teacher, Bully with Victim, etc. Whether we live once or many times, it's a feasible theory to believe that we've made agreements with God, and perhaps others, to live out certain dramas in the journey of our soul's wisdom. When casting the Wheel, Archetypes land in 1 of 12 Houses...each House corresponding with the Astrological Chart Houses and what each entails. It's amazing to see where Archetypes land, and in which House! For example, my Queen landed in the 1st House of Ego and Identity, and if you'd see the jewelry I wear, how "commanding" I am, and how I carry myself...you'd suspect Queen energy! Myss also teaches about the 7 chakras, including an 8th chakra that deals with "symbolic sight", or, seeing things from a God's eye view. She also correlates chakras with the Houses, and what issues fall in which chakras. I definitely recommend this book for insight into life patterns, life purpose, the archetypal patterns of others, and how relationships "dance" with one another to the tune of specific soul lessons. While I'm not 100% sold on the idea that our Natal Wheel contains 12 fixed archetypes--and that they can be selected, with surety, simply by asking questions of archetypal patterns and then choosing their house placement by random--it's a fascinating system that will yield helpful clues as to why you do what you do...and why you are here this moment. Review: Tool for exploring internal psyche...game board format - I bought this โgameโ after reading Caroline Myssโ book on archetypes. My goal in purchasing this product was self-examination and reflection: to better understand a subset of 12 archetypes that make up internal psychological patterns or energies that help or hinder us in life. The โgameโ itself is layered, pretty complex and a bit on the woo-woo side. It takes two or three tries to fully understand how to interact with it. As a tool, it can be used individually or with up to four players. The guide book contains examples but not specific instructions on how to play the game. So you have to be willing to invest a bit of time pre-reading about archetypes and exploring the cards prior to involving the game board. In my experience, interacting with this product requires a willingness to explore ones own internal psyche and acts means of provoking dialogue...distinct but similar to how someone may use tarot cards For me, unless somebody has a deep interest in exploring archetypes, I wouldnโt generally recommend this product. Instead, I would recommend the archetype card deck by the same author. The box itself is about 12 x 12โ and contains a game board, a set of 72 archetype cards (The regular card deck contains 80 cards), a slim instruction guide book, dice, pens, numbered cards, and a pad of paper that mimics the game board for player notes. Next to the dice is a piece of squishy foam that apparently an eraser. Having read a number of reviews before purchasing this item, there was confusion as to whether this was a game or cards. I am providing a detailed description of the box contents while doing my best to be respectful of the authors intellectual property by not including pictures of the instruction book.

Tool for exploring internal psyche...game board format

so insightful.
easily becoming one of my favorite books. seems pretty lengthy at first but the first 150 pages or so are chock full of information. this isnโt a book you get and just read once - this is something youโll find yourself revisiting time and time again. in my opinion itโs a great investment. if youโre thinking about buying itโฆ just do it!

Life changing
Life changing is not an overstatement. This book is the best โself-helpโ book Iโve read in 30 years, and Iโve read a lot. Itโs not a quick read, but worth the time if youโre ready to do the work. It cohesively connects multiple spiritual beliefs, with psychology and physical health and healing. Itโs full of information , insight and personal stories and exercises enlightening emotional work. I was compelled after 15 -20 min of reading to stop for a periods of introspection and reflection and approach to relationships. Although timeless in life application, reading it was emotionally grounding as I recovered from a terrible 2 month bout with Covid 19. It also helped me to recalibrate choices about re-engaging in personal, work, community relationships after a year of social isolation during the pandemic.

Not keen on Audible voice used
I gave the book away. After several surgeries, it was too much to read. My eyes kept glazing over. So I bought the Audible format once it was released. My biggest issue, and why I dinged it one star, was the voice used. I wish it had been Caroline. I listen to her videos all the time. This person's voice is a bit boring.

Read and listened to many times. Thatโs JUST how good it is.
Iโve listened to the audible so many times, but wanted a deeper dive with the work in the book.

One of my favorite books!
I've been reading and listening to Caroline Myss since discovering her two cassette (Yes, for you younger folks, those were bulky plastic tapes we listened to before CDs and digital streams.) presentation "Spiritual Madness" at a video store. (Those were the days. *Sigh*) Her work has enlightened me and helped me through all kinds of crises. She has also helped me realize that conventional religion doesn't work for me. I believe "Spiritual Madness" is her best work. It focuses on archetypes and how each of us has a unique combination of them that provides both an understanding and a pathway for how to live and interact with each other. Caroline never pulls punches -- I've seen her in person, too -- as she describes the various archetypes and explains how important it is to look beyond ego and vanity to find your true self. Myss isn't a New Age guru, she's Caroline Myss -- teacher, mystic, medical intuitive, and one of the most fascinating people I've ever met.

A thought-provoking read
I first heard about Caroline Myss in a recent issue of O, The Oprah Magazine. I checked Sacred Contracts out of our library and I quickly realized I needed to buy my own copy because my yellow highlighter was begging to be used on the pages. She presents so many different and interesting concepts about living life in the present: not the past or the future, but how to appreciate where you are right now. She challenges readers to learn more about themselves and their personalities and shows how to take those pieces of ourselves and apply them to our lives -- ourselves, families, friends, jobs, everything and everyone we encounter. I have read the book twice and accept that each time I read it, I will learn much more. This book is great for anyone trying to better themselves along the journey of life.

Very insightful
I adore Caroline Miss, I heard about this book on Oprah, it really digs into what drives you as a person and embodying that side of you, there are a lot of cross overs with astrology and many archetype profiles, I recommend watching her videos online about each archetype
