A Detailed Exposition on the Origins of Hatha Yoga
Hatha yoga as we know it today has many roots in this work, which is actually comparatively recent, being "only" a few hundred years old. The author very nicely explains each verse in clear, modern English, and her grasp of, and passion for the topic is present. The Pradiipika needs this sort of analysis, because just reading a translation of the verses does very little in getting to what the original creator of the work meant in many cases. Many practices are given, from cleansing techniques, to bandhas and other bodily-related methods, to experiencing various meditative states of consciousness.

A must have for the serious yoga practitioner
If you are a practitioner of yoga, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika is a must have for your yoga librar. This particular copy is a translation from the Bihar School of Yoga and is very well written and easy to understand even by the lay practitioner. Hatha Yoga Pradipika is a classic Sanskrit manual on hatha yoga. It is among the most influential surviving texts on the hatha yoga, and is one of the three classic texts of hatha yoga, the other two being the Gheranda Samhita and the Shiva Samhita. The Haṭhayogapradīpikā consists of four chapters which include information about asanas, pranayama, cakras, kundalini, bandhas, kriyās, śakti, nāḍīs and mudrās among other topics.

Great book to deepen your philosophy
Beautiful book that explains in more depth hatha yoga. Take it as a text book with useful information for practising. The book is published in India. Thus, at times you *feel* as an Indian teacher is talking to you (yes, in that type of spoken English). PROS: in my personal must read for understanding your yoga practice. It's easy reading. Explanation of the million words in sanskrit is clear and easy to find in appendices. Plus, you'll likely reach enlightenment ;0)

As a yoga instructor...
This translation is great. It's a must-have for the library of a teacher and/or practitioner of yoga. The Pradipika is the original "light on yoga" text. It is appropriate for the beginner because of it's strong fundamentals It is also useful to the experienced yogi for of the same reason! The experienced yogi can use this to add new dimensions to an already established practice, meditation and pranayama. Namaste.

Best commentary in modern times
This book is commentary on the original work with the same "Hatha Yoga Pradipika" by Yogi Swatmarama written in Sanskrit language, many centuries ago. Hatha Yoga Pradipika meaning Light on Hatha Yoga. Book contains the original Sanskrit text compiled by Yogi Swatmarama with a translation and thorough Commentary in English by Swami Muktibodhananda under the guidance of Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswathi. There is a wonderful introductory note of 20 pages on Hatha Yoga by Swamiji Satyanananda Saraswathi. Treatise has 4 major parts. They are 1.Asana 2.Shatkarma and Pranayama 3. Mudra and Bandha 4. Samadhi. BSY (Bihar School of Yoga)/ Yoga Publications Trust (YPT) has published many books. One of their popular publication is "Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha" (APMB) written by Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswathi. There are many over lapping points between these books. However the authors have handled carefully and brought out the differences. If any one is keen to know the difference between yoga and hatha yoga, they should read HYP book. APMB is a book for beginners and easy to read. HYP is translation work covering APMB and much more.

Completely enthralled!
This is an amazing little book (it's not quite little). I am reading it as part of my yoga teacher training. I love that it gives you benefits of the Asanas and sticks with their sanskrit names. It is clear and concise when describing the asanas. It has the Sanskrit script. I only wish it had the Sanskrit translation of the script.

true pillar of yoga wisdom
this is one of the best commentaries and translations on this great yoga classic - one of the principal texts about hatha yoga, actually viewed as a scripture. Swami Muktibodhananda's commentaries are truly insightful and helpful. She helps the modern ready grasp a fuller understanding of the real intent of hatha yoga as well as ability to make use of the text's guidance.
