this knife does it AWL!
So i was in the market for a new scout/camp knife. I have had a few Kamp Kings from the 60s-70s. I love those knives. Unfortunately i either lost them or they fell apart due to age. Well i started looking around for a NEW one. All my kamp kings where all from decades past and atleast i was the second owner. Then I remembered the Swiss made knives. Boy do they do a great job!.The only other knife i have even gotten straight out of a box that i could shave with is my GEC bullbuster. I dont know if these are hand made or what but the fit and finish is of the highest quality. this is a great addition to my pocket knives of the world collection. I just wish i could have gotten it in red, only becuse well ists a swiss army knife, there supposed to be red, Right? The black is nice tho.. It has gone right into my daily rotation. This is a must for any one wanting a multi function pocket knife or something classic to ad to a collection. This knife has an awl. Its hard to find one on a modern pocket knife. If you have never had one with an awl, your missing out!!!! This knife was well desinged and thought out. The blade its self is a good size, id say comparable to a sod buster Jr. size. useful for daily and camp task, fishing. Can opener! I like it more than the p38 in all i think you should get one to. I like this over all there other models, not to big and every thing is usefull. The Bantam is pretty cool too..... just a blade and can opener.

One of the most popular and influential Swiss Army Knife patterns
An absolute classic, the Pioneer is essentially the civilian version of the Solider which was issued to Swiss soldiers for almost 50 years. The main difference is that the Pioneer has a keyring and the Soldier does not.The Pioneer features the same basic tool arrangement of Main Blade/Can Opener/Bottle Opener that most Victorinox models have, but it swaps out the small blade (or nail file) for a very nice Awl. This is a versatile toolset in a sleek, slim package that weighs in at a mere 2.5 oz. Although the plastic-handled Swiss Army knives usually have extra tools on the back, and tweezers and a toothpick in the scales, the Alox models lack these features. Instead, you get a knife that is slimmer, classier, and much more rugged. The Alox scales are beautifully machined and anodized in a variety of colors (my Pioneer came with classy black scales). As such, it makes a great gentleman's knife. But it also makes for a really rugged camper/hiker/soldier's knife. Either way, you can't go wrong.I do have one minor complaint. They keyring mount has sharp edges and is uncomfortable in the hand. This is easily fixed with an emery board or some find sandpaper, but it would be nice if this was addressed at the factory.

What's 35 years old is new again.
I've owned one of these for the past 35 years. I prior to that owned a Boyscout knife with the same identical blades though in regular steel. I've had one of these on me for 50 years now every single day. Alas my Victorinox finally had the hole punch break off when I did something I really shouldn't have with it. I remember paying $11.50 for it in 1983. Nothing to do except get another one. I actually looked at some other versions, but this one is the one to have in my opinion and experience. My old one was anodized red, a candy apple red. Very pretty when new. However during the years all that red was worn away except under the edge covered by the hole punch blade. Even the waffled raised portion on the sides was barely left as it was nearly worn smooth. I did grind off the lanyard on it way back when as it wasn't useful to me and will wear a hole in your pants pockets. The brass rivets were worn almost away from riding in my pocket during all these years. So I ordered the black Pioneer model (also what it was called in 1983). I quite like the black finish it looks nice in a more understated way than the red did. The surfaces seem more polished than the old one though of course maybe they were more polished way back when. It also made clear how much I had worn away the knife blade from sharpening over the years. It is sharper than I remember the old one being out of the box. The old one had a much fancier box which I still have. Since it has never been in that box since the day I purchased it I don't mind a plain box.I notice some people complain of the knife being very hard to open. At least the one I received that is not at all true. In fact, though my old one is easier than when new, this one is even easier to open the blade on than my old one. And yes I kept my old one oiled at the hinges. The middle portion between the blades is brass on my old one and appears another metal on the new one.So, these blades are so adaptable to so many uses. I'll not go on about that though I've done so many things with my old Pioneer. What's old is new again even better maybe. I believe the stainless is of higher quality.

Superb choice for EDC
Sturdy classic design. Fairly slim, but provides excellent grip and control. Civilian descendant of THE Swiss Army Officer's knife, in sleek modern livery. Definitely a useful item and classy black finish makes it perfect for occasions when it is appropriate to carry a gentleman's dress knife. Combine with a P7 pocket clip for suspended carry: IWB, or beneath armpit, or inside inner jacket pocket when wearing a vest keeps trouser pockets free and uncluttered. If using P7 add one additional small Vic ring or equivalent. Prevents walking off waistband if carrying IWB, and keeps your knife from twisting when suspended. Nice EDC item for anyone, man, woman, or responsible young person. When legal to do so, of course. Tool selection is basic but very capable. Wear and tear just adds character to these. Very affordable in comparison to most single blade "tactical" folders. Comparably much less expensive than many traditional slip joint pocket knives from respected, well-established cutlery manufacturers. And offers more tool density, or outright usefulness, than either tactical or traditional types. Victorinox's warranty is second to none. In other words, this pocket knife is a bargain. A personal favourite and heartily, unreservedly, recommended.
