Alessi Replacement Bird Whistle for 9093 Michael Graves Kettle

Bought it for my mother as replacement for all clad tea kettle cap. Works great and is adorable. Quality seems excellent.

This fits the Alessi teapot, works great and is very cute. But as others have stated, it does interfere with pouring the water out of the teapot. Not really necessary as you can hear the water boil without it. But if you are in another room having the whistle can be handy. You'd just have to remove the bird to pour out the hot water. I just leave mine off, but I am happy to have it in case I want my teapot to whistle.

This is my fourth Alessi whistle bird! I keep walking away from the kettle and after the water boils off, the poor little bird melts. My fault! So I order another and hope to behave better in the future. It is a great whistler!

It just doesn’t work. So I bought another one and it didn’t work either. I have severe hearing loss so I need a loud whistle. It’s a very expensive lesson that I had to learn.

I got this to replace a broken part in 30 year old tea kettle. The original had a very strong whistle which was easy to hear. That's important because if you forget about it and boil out the water it will destroy the the tea kettle. The new whistle looks identical to the original and has Alessi embossed on the side. But, the whistle is nearly impossible to hear. Yes, the lid on the tea pot is on tight! I see a lot of steam blowing through the whistle, which I suspect is why the sound is so slight... to much of a gap. Sometimes if I remove and replace the whistle it will sound a bit louder, but unfortunately it cannot be depended upon so we must watch the teapot for a boil, which defeats the whole purpose of the whistle. I'd consider returning for another, but reading other reviews it appears a common malady. So like everything else these days it's just not up to the quality of the original. EDIT: After having read another 3 star review which mentioned blowing into the back of the whistle made it whistle correctly, I tried it and it worked. After a couple months of use, we have determined that the quantity of water in the kettle affects the whistle. Too much water and a heavy cloud of steam comes out but almost no whistle. Less water will cause the whistle to properly sound. Bumping the review now to 4 stars.

The whistle was identical to the original. It fits perfectly and whistles as it should. Many kettles have the whistle connected to the spout. They eventually break and can't be replaced. This kettle is very well designed and made. The design of a replaceable whistle and the quality of the kettle mean that it can be fully functional for decades.

Ordered the replacement bird whistle on Amazon from Design and Grace. Ours had gone missing some time ago, and the teapot heats so quick, it almost boiled dry a few times before I caught it. I had looked online in the past for a replacement, but they were pretty expensive. The price on Amazon was very reasonable and the reviews looked good. I was a little nervous that it might be a cheap chinese knock-off, but I decided to go for it based on the reviews and pictures. It arrived very quickly, and is the genuine Alessi replacement part in factory bag. So nice to have it back in the kettle as before.
