The jack handle is the release no reposition necessary. Simply start to unscrew the handle. You can regulate speed by how much you unscrew the handle. Just crack it and it will go down slow.

can this be used for trailers in the field?

Depends on soil compaction. Depends on trailer loaded or not. If you carry some very stout wood or steel plate to put on the ground under the Jack, might work for changing a tire. I probably would carry 2 jack stands with stout wood or steel plate underneath as safety items under the frame so that if the soil begins to sink under the weight of the trailer, you can get your happy ass out of the way...and redo your Jack and supports.

Great product, amazing value

This jack is powerful and has got me out of a pickle or 2 already. Never failed me. Ive worked on my Toyota corolla and it doesn't budge at all. Great value especially for the price point.

Not Safe!

THIS FLOOR JACK IS NOT SAFE!!!!! I bought this jack with a pair of Jack Boss jack stands for a Toyota Corolla. The jack can barely get this little car off the ground and it constantly rolls. The jack stands are not stable. I could not complete my auto repair as a result. Use this jack on a Fiat or a SmartCar!

Very handy for mower repair

The product arrived quickly and undamaged. It even came with safety and service/maintenence instructions ! I got this to use on my yard equipment, mainly. It does okay but could benefit from a lower at rest capability and a set of different diameter & hight adjustable lift plates. Kudos to the person who included the instructions. Very helpful. I recommend this jack
