E-ZoneGuard Patio Rechargeable Mosquito Repellent, 5.5-Hr Bat

Just.. WOW. I really am amazed, astonished, astounded!!!Ok so I have a she-shed I spend most of my time in, in the back yard that’s mostly built around my cats. Therefore I need to leave the door open so the furballs can get in/out. (Pictured: my setup and how I have the curtains at night) This then invites an insane amount of mosquitoes in and everyone is getting eaten alive including me. I professionally spray, i fog, I have bug zappers, those tube things and dunks and I’m still covered in bites. I have to dress head to toe, sweating my tuckus off and any peaking skin gets decimated. I didn’t want to try this at first because it’s so expensive and refills only last a small amount of time but holy crap you get you pay for!!!!-First night: it had just rained heavily and was hot and humid so I expected heavy demon fire. There were already mosquitoes in the shed when I placed it at dusk.. ready for war. Prepared to run around like a crazy person armed with my electric swatter, I started seeing the mosquitoes struggle. I thought this had to be a coincidence. I thought thermacell was just deterrent but I think it killed them. After they died I didn’t see a single hell beast all night long. I wanted to leave a review immediately and tell everyone their savior has arrived but I was still in denial that it was truly as effective as it seemed. Beginners luck?Second night: I turned it on and decided to put on shorts and a tee shirt, leave the doors all the way open, just closing the curtain and didn’t fog. I know that seems like I’m flirting with death but anything for science, ya know? Nothing!!! Not one fly, moth OR BLOOD SUCKING ABOMINATION!! It’s so small yet so powerful. I think I’m going to build it a shrine at this point.Bottom line: it’s easy to use. It’s not bothering my animals. The battery life is stable and stays on the full advertised 9 hours. It’s portable/small and you can place it anywhere. It’s silent, has no smell and releases a tiny bit of barely visible vapor. It’s just incredibly effective! Oh and I love that all parts are black including the device, dock, cord and charger block! Some companies get cheap and use white charging blocks for each color to save money.Cons: Espennnsiveeee!! Especially for daily use. Also, you can’t use it while it’s charging and charging takes hours. That’s about it. I already bought a second one to use while the other is charging.Edit: the fourth night I started seeing mosquitoes and thought it really was too good to be true but I checked the cartridge and saw my 36 hour refill cartridge (which should have lasted at least another 10-ish hours) was empty. I was unaware you HAVE TO PUT THE BLUE CAP BACK ON WHEN YOU’RE DONE! Especially when the device is charging because it gets warm and the juice will evaporate through the wick even when the device is off. It will evaporate super fast if it’s very hot outside so placing it in a cool place will help too.

This machine actually works, no mosquitos or midges (UK) seen while it’s running. Only takes about a minute to heat up. Little wisp of vapour is visible so you can see it’s working. One full charge lasts for 3-4 evenings, and these are now USB type-C like most portable electronics. It looks as if I’m about halfway through the refill cartridge after 14.5hrs use. Shame they’re quite expensive! Looking forward to taking it on vacation to Europe later this summer. My one suggestion for improvement would be - it’s a quick press to turn on, and a long press to turn off. Seems it would be safer to have it the opposite way round to prevent accidental activation in a bag? Also note it comes in bulk packaging (brown cardboard box) rather than the shiny blue product packaging seen here.

Overall I love the Patio Max. It is easy to get started with it and easy to charge. It hold a charge well. It also seems to keep the mosquitos away pretty well and that is saying a lot when you live in Georgia. We have mosquitos everywhere. We love to sit on the porch in the evening which is when the mosquitos are out the most. All you have to do is turn it on and wait about 15 minutes and then go out to a covered porch. It doesn’t have a strong smell like a lot of other products which I really like. The only thing I don’t like about is if you forget to turn it on for a while before you go out it doesn’t work quickly. You have to turn it on for a while before you go out to have good coverage. I would continue to buy though, and recommend to friends and family.

I am reviewing the Thermacell E Zone Guard Patio Max Mosquito Repellent. We have many bugs in South Carolina. Many bugs. I placed on the porch and on the picnic table by the water at the lake and at my house. It works okay, for the cost of the repellent I was not impressed with the performance.It does not work on gnats or flies. It is easy to use and if it kept the bugs away I would reconsider. The charging system is easy to use and it charged pretty quickly. I can visually see the vapor coming out and I do not recognize or smell anything like insect repellant. Maybe need a bigger machine to work in my area that is more powerful. For it to be rated to last for 12 hours I think it will be to costly to continue using.

This repellent is very effective, better than any torches or waxes. I've placed one in my spring area and no longer get bothered. The thing I liked the most is the simplicity. Easy to add a cartridge and turn it on. Even my children know how to set it up when they go outside to play. Keeps the mosquitoes away! Also a big plus is how small it is, compared to the waxes I've had to store each season and the torches I have to buy and leave room for. Both the cartridges and battery lasts a long time. I would absolutely buy more and as gifts for friends as well.

I’m happy with the Thermacell E-zoneguard Patio Max. I wanted it before the end of summer, when evenings get shorter and I’m increasingly concerned about mosquitoes and diseases like West Nile and EEE here in New England. Setup was very easy, and charging with the dock was straightforward. One helpful tip: I read that you need to give it about 15 minutes for the mosquito-repellent zone to fully form, so don’t expect immediate results. So far, it’s been an easy to use and effective addition to our family evenings outside.

I'm a smoker, so I sit outside with my roommate's adorable pup many times throughout the day. We live in a bit of a wooded area, so in the summer and fall, the rain foments an insurrection of mosquitoes breeding/hatching like Solomon and his 700 concubines.I happen to be one of those weirdos who attracts mosquitoes as if I were sweating gold. With the newly found cases of west Nile in my state, I tried to be smart about keeping these leeches off me, to no avail. I tried the burning coils, sprays, ands a different manufacturer's repeller/fan.I used those products for a couple of weeks and would still find myself with anywhere from 2-8 mosquito bites every time I went back into the house.Upon recommendation, I quickly placed an order for same day delivery for this product.As soon as my product showed up I charged it and went back to sit in the same two spaces I regularly lounge and experienced ZERO mosquito bites. I was out there for almost 2hrs.I highly recommend this product, especially because of the extremely affordable price. To date, I've spent close to double the cost (including MULTIPLE replacement cartridges) on the inferior product.No odor, quiet motor, HUGE protection zone, easy loading, and VERY effective.Only thing I might change is the length of time it takes to fully charge, but even that is a miniscule portion of this high quality product. 💪🏻

Update (5/12/22):I tried using the product on a breezy evening and as I suspected, the wind impacted the effectiveness. While I think there were fewer mosquitoes (just a guess), I was getting bitten and decided to go back inside. I do think it’s effective if it is not too windy. Will buy some more repellent and continue using it.(Original Post). Let's start with the most important question...does it work? It does work (or at least has worked for me and my specific set up)...more about that shortly. And I will continue to use it (and purchase more repellant refills). Why only 4 stars? Instructions need to be improved and not quite sure about the value proposition (cost) for the repellents. But the product has worked for me so far (several hours of use) and I really hate mosquitos. And I did not have to put on bug repellent to keep them from pestering me.After reading several reviews and wanting to gain access to my patio without being attacked by mosquitos, I decided to buy this and give it a try. I decided on the battery operated version for my patio. The setup instructions were not clearly written (I will provide the information I wish they had provided shortly as well).I am not a entomologist or an aerosol vapor flow expert...that said, here are my observations and recommendations.1.) I don't believe the graphic that shows a 20" protective bubble is reasonable representation of what to expect from the product. The unit emits a vaporized repellent into the air (visualize the smoke from a candle) which is highly influenced by wind or, a ceiling fan. As the repellent is diluted to into the air, the effect dissipates, meaning less protection from mosquitos. The graphic shows a group of people sitting outdoors with a bubble shield, exactly 20 feet around them. If there is no wind, maybe that depiction is a somewhat reasonable representation. But when you set an expectation that there is a protective bubble, people will take it literally. Hence the 1 star reviews that says it does not work.In my situation, I am on covered porch where there is a wall behind me and to the left of me but the front and right side are completely open to the wind. So there is a "pocket" where the repellent is protected from from being completely dissipated or blown downwind. This would seem to me to be the ideal set up for this device. Haven't tried turning on the ceiling fan on the porch. If the results are significantly different, I will update this review.2. Confusing instructions included in the box at best. Here is a suggestion...how about a QR code that takes you to a video called first use. Let me summarize the information I believe needs to clearly provided:a) Plug the unit in before use (instructions said this). You will see 3 chasing dots (blinking on and off in a chasing pattern) until the unit is charged (instructions have some confusing series of gray and white dots that does not look anything like what the unit looks like while it's charging). When fully charged, the three dots above the charging port will be on. Also, no word on whether you can plug the unit into a wall socket and use it while it is recharging. And the instructions do not say it takes 5 hours to charge when the battery is completely depleted (that is what the support person told me). Also guessing the unit does not trickle charge when charging is complete...so you probably should not leave it plugged in for extended periods of time.b) The repellent is in a small plastic container with a lid. The instructions in the box don't really show you how to hold the lid to remove it (there is a confusing drawing with two diagonal arrows which wasn't useful at all). Hold the sides of the bottle with your thumb and forefinger. Hold the front and back center of the lid in the center with the thumb and forefinger of your other hand. Separate. Just like the picture on the Amazon website (which I just saw).c) How about a recommendation on turning it off after your use and whether to remove the repellent container and put the lid back on. Absolutely nothing said in the instructions. Also, maybe recommend charging the unit so it will be ready for your next use? What if you are not going to use it for a week or a month...should you not leave the unit plugged in to a charger for extended periods? Again, it would be useful to know if you can use the unit while it's plugged in and recharging.3. General thoughts about toxicity: Google mosquito deaths and the results say mosquitos kill over 1 million people a year. One of the prominently displayed 1 star reviews talks about the toxicity and that you can get headaches or dizziness. Everyone is different and I enjoy being outside without having to put insecticide on my skin. I have not gotten headaches or dizzy. Your results may vary.Now I want to compliment Thermacell on their customer support. They answered the call pretty quickly, were very helpful and pleasant to work with. Also, very generous warranty.I have written this whole review sitting on my porch and did not have a single mosquito come near me. Houston, Texas, in May on light breeze afternoon.Again, I would recommend it to friends and would buy it again.Now for some unsolicited advice to Thermacell. Seems to me you have way too many versions of this product which confuses the buyer. Also, it appears the repellents have changed over time with some of your later repellents that are "safer" than your earlier versions. Might be useful to make this information more explicit if correct. Hopefully you are reconciling what products to sell and which products to sunset. Also, on the box that is covered with pictures and graphics, the actual product version was in smaller print and greyed out (easily overlooked). So it took me a minute to find it when support asked me what device I was calling about.Very simple electronics upgrade...I would recommend resettable timers on the device indicating battery life and how much time remains before the repellent needs to be replaced. Either LED timer display (not 3 LED lights) on the device or bluetooth app on your phone. Seems obvious you are using the "razor and blade" method of pricing for product, where razors are cheap but the blades (refills) are where you generate your profits. The unit works well enough that a little upgrade to provide the user more information about battery life or how long until I need to replace the repellent cartridge would justify paying extra for the "razor". Just one opinion and you have been in the business for 20 years...so you know what your are doing.

This item uses an outdated charging cable and does not hold a charge well. When attempting to return the item, the seller refused to provide collection and instead sent lengthy and complicated return instructions, eventually leading to the return window expiring.

We live nearby a lake and struggle with mosquitoes at home and camping and this has been a blessing to keep them at bay!

The product wasn't packaged properly. The refill unit had leaked into its plastic bag and absorbed into the cardboard box. Not only do I have less repellant, but metofluthrin is toxic and not supposed to be handled.

Product works like a charm. U like the Indian versions of repellent that are also effective, this one is odourless and vapouriser free. Only drawback is that there is no adequate supply of refills. Im struggling to procure one. Any leads will be much appreciated.
