does this work on the B750 model Chamberlain?

Yes, this would be the appropriate rail extension kit for your Chamberlain B750 opener.

Will this fit the chamberlain whisperer model 248739 ?

According to Chamberlain's web site, yes. Search for "chamberlain "248739"", you should find a downloadable parts manual; "8808CB 8 Foot (2.4 m) Rail extension kit" is listed for Models WD822KD • WD832KD • 248739, page 37.

I have a 12 x 16 foot door. Do I need to purchase an extension kit? If so, which one?

You will definitely need an extension kit. The opener is designed for a standard 7ft. door and therefore the rail (and belt on it) is only long enough to raise a door 7ft. I have an 8ft door and only bought the extension for the additional 1 ft. You should probably contact Chamberlain to see if they offer an extension for a 12ft door. It might require a different type of opener.

Do I need to purchase the extension kit for the garage door opener to work?

You have to purchase extension if door is 8 foot tall or it will not work.
