I got this hat because I was taking a week long trip to Bermuda, and I didn't want to get tired in the sun.I wanted something with a relatively wide brim, and this fit the bill. With the hat on, the sun stayed out of my face for the majority of the day, except for the very beginning and very end when the sun was low in the sky. The brim is wide enough to keep the sun off of a significant portion of the top half of my body, so that kept me cool.There was one day when the rain came pouring down and I kept the hat on. I think my head and neckline were the only dry parts of me. When I took the hat off I wasn't wet at all underneath. I still wouldn't recommend going out in the rain with just the hat, bring a proper umbrella or jacket.It was snug, but not too tight on my head. I measured my head (24+ inches), which was too big for most of the hats I'd seen on Amazon.The strap is adjustable which I appreciated, and I like that it can fold in half and is very flat when folded. The only downside I would state is that there is a more or less permanent folding mark because it's shipped folded.I loved having this hat in Bermuda, though I'm sure I looked like a stereotypical tourist.

"Head lock tighten strap nob" NOPE. This does not tighten the hat around your head. It's sewn to the side of the hat immediately after the hole. And because it is so close together the stiffness of the hat actually keeps you from being able to tighten it. Not to mention that the cord material is elastic so it gives and yep...no tightening.So as long as you DON'T NEED it to tighten around your head it's a good hat. The chin strap works well and it provides good shade, especially on the neck.Good Hat, but misleading description.

With skin cancer issues due to sun damage, I have to protect myself now. Have purchased other hats that were ok, but still let the sun get to my face and neck some. This hat is great !!! The super wide brim really protects me. The lightweight material and vented top actually keeps my head cool. I have a fat head, but this hat fits snug perfectly. There is an adjustment cord on top around the band to tighten if needed too. If you're in wind the chin strap is handy. I can't say enough about this hat. Even as super wide as it is, I literally almost forget I have it on...it is that light and comfortable. I haven't received anything for my comments here just a request from the seller to review and if I was happy. I will say one last thing. To all you men and women out there who need protection from the sun or who are smart enough to think ahead before you have issues, give this hat a shot. It looks great too! I am a 66 yr. old guy who looks like a cross between Santa and Hemingway, so how could I be wrong !

It's a wide brimmed sun hat, it does what a wide brimmed sun hat should do. It's comfortable, and has a cord you can tighten to fit a smaller head. I apparently have a pretty big head, and also often wear my hair in a high bun when it's hot. It still fits comfortably over the bun. I've adjusted it down to fit my 12 year old with no issues. It has a break in the stiffening in the brim so you can fold it in half easily without damaging it. Helpful considering it's got a pretty big brim.It's a little dorky looking in my opinion, but when you burn like a vampire in the sun, it's necessary unless you never leave your house in the summer.

Really liking these hats with the 4.7" brim. I've always wore the "boony" style hats while siding, which are about 2 1/2" brims, they just didn't provide enough shade coverage. These are perfect as far as the brim goes, a LOT of shade for the face and neck, not to mention how much cooler I am under this hat.The only problem, is the fabric on the top is very thin. You can practically see through it, which is great for ventilation, but definitely lets some sun on the top of the head. So when I wear these hats, I still need to wear sunscreen on the top of my head. Maybe eventually I'll put a couple iron on patches on the underside of the top of the hat to offer more sun protection.Overall though, these hats are great if you are going to be in the hot sun. Since like I said, the material is real thin on top, I don't expect these to last more than a couple months or so with heavy duty/daily use, but I will buy more, as these offer a lot of great sun protection with the wide brim.

Hat has a good stiff brim that is easy to shape(I needed to turn up the back a couple of inches). It gives good all around protection from the sun. I fish frequently and have a history of skin cancer. It comes folded and that helps give better coverage from nose to nape. I have several hats and this is the best one yet. This hat is much better looking than the ones that make you look like a mummy. Wish I hadn't wasted money on the other ones. Will be a repeat customer and am very glad this hat was available.

Well made, great sun protection for head, face and neck, stiff and wide brim offers some wind resistance, and it folds nicely when packing. Fit for my wide head is fine and fully adjustable. Just what I wanted. Many others do not come down enough to provide protection from sun at an angle and this one has a wide brim as well. Others have loose brims that are useless in even light wind. And fit is great with both head bungee and adjustable chin strap. It is light weight, cool and washable.

I now own three of these hats. The 4 inch wide brim protects from the sun when playing golf or fishing.I wish they'd put in a little thicker fabric on the top of the hat like the hats Sun Day Afternoon makes, because the extra fabric on the top protects us bald guys better. But Sun Blocker is one of the only companies I've found that makes a 4" brim and still manages to look respectable when wearing out on the golf course. When they are new I use them for golf, when they get a little dis-colored I use them for fishing, and after that I recycle them as a gardening hat.

I don't know what the other reviews are yalking about... this hat is NOT for people with large heads! It's standard sized, so about 2-3 inches too small me for me, which is so annoying... but the brim is wide, if you don't have trouble finding hats that fit than I'd recommend it.
