The Complete ASTB Study Guide: Preparation Guide and Practice Test for the ASTB-E Exam

Book has all the basic information needed to do well on the Astb/oar however some of the explanations in the math section are somewhat brief and can leave an individual confused if they are not familiar with the equation or are out of practice, make sure you read the question thoroughly. P.s. you may need outside resources to help in the math section ex: Pg. 14 step 3 mentions the C in a quadratic equation however it neglects to tell the reader anything about ax^2+bx+C.

I purchased this book because I am looking to take the OAR portion of the exam. After reading reviews and purchasing the book, I had an ENS look over the study guide. He had only great things to say! He mentioned that many of the questions were quite similar to the questions on the OAR and that he thought it would be highly useful during my preparation for the exam. I was expecting the study guide to be long and drawn out, but its quite the opposite. The book is written in a logical manner and is straight to the point.

I passed the ASTB with this booklet. I probably should've studied more, but oh well. I scored a 58 OAR and a 7/6/6 on the ASTB portion of the test and got picked up for Student Naval Aviator with those scores. I definitely learned more about the testing style and information than I otherwise would have. Great book. I'd recommend buying it if you're considering join the Navy as an aviation officer. You only get 3 chances to take the test and you might as well do everything you can to get the best score possible.

I got this for my husband expecting something more extensive. It is a tiny book with tiny chapters and small practice tests. It certainly isn't exhaustive and when I asked my husband if the ASTB was anything like the content of the book, he said very minimally. A lot was not covered in the book. Overall I'd more recommend poking around Youtube and Google for free than wasting your money. On the bright side he passed the test.

I was originally hesitant to pick this ASTB study guide because it only one review. But thank goodness I did. For the price, you REALLY CAN'T BEAT it. It was better than the all round flight test book that someone gave me since it was specific to the Navy and the ASTB.So, I'd definitely recommend picking this one up since the price is so low.

So I was debating on buying the hard copy of the book and thought it was a little pricy and some of the reviews weren't the greatest. I decided to try out amazon kindle for only $0.99 which was definitely worth it. If I bought the hard copy for $23.00, I would have been very disappointed because there is still so much to study up on. It was a good starting point for studying though. For the amazon kindle you don't need a kindle, there's an app you can use on you phone or just use it in you browser.

Poor and very little information. There is maybe 3-4 pages of information for each topic and it is not even close to everything you need to know for the astb. The WORST part are the practice questions. It was just give you a problem but doesn’t ask what it’s looking for! For example, the question could be a math problem (2x+3y=8) and that’s all there is, nothing like “find the values of x and y” so how am I supposed to know what to look for?! The worst section is the RCT which just gives you these horribly worded excerpts and then answers underneath, but i have NO IDEA what I am supposed to be looking for in the passage in order to get the right answer!! Most of the practice problems aren’t even relevant to the test, which has much harder problems.

Can't beat $1 on kindle. Thought the book would have more information especially on aviation but it definitely was worth $1.
