An unforgettable and emotional read that left me in tears!
Night Road is an unforgettable tale of emotions, heart wrenching loss, incomprehensible sacrifice and the unfortunate breakdown of a family in turmoil who cannot feel love after a horrific accident takes the life of a young woman. The loss of this one woman brought about heartache to all who were in the accident leaving them bereft and guilty for being unable to undue what was done. The three teens, twins Mia and Zach, and their friend Lexie, who was driving home from a party after drinking too much, crashed into a tree only a mile from the twins’ home. The twins made a crucial mistake by not calling their mother to pick them up. This mistake would change their lives forever and keep them from being a family as they once were. This was an emotional read that left me in tears as I felt the heartache the characters were feeling. The author created an emotional story that captured the heart of this reader and kept me captivated until the satisfying ending. It was difficult to put down and I read into the night.I absolutely love this story and highly recommend it to all! Kristin Hannah created another wonderful story rich with highly defined characters and an engrossing and emotional story line.

Such an emotional story, but…
Night Road starts off as a story of friends that, although from completely different worlds, connect on a level not many are lucky enough to experience in life. The friendship between Mia and Lexi seems to be of desperate need for both of them, binding them together in a way that you could guess might cause issues in some areas. Enter Zach. When things are tragically turned upside down with the 3 of them, Jude, Mia and Zach’s mother, decides to behave in ways that impact all of their lives forever. This story is sad. So many things could have been different, but one wrong choice can change your life forever and sometimes it takes experiencing these unfortunate situations to learn from them. I enjoyed this book, but was annoyed and angry with several of the characters for the way they handled their everyday situations and felt terrible for Lexie seeming to always get the short end of the stick. I think I’m leaning towards a 3.5 star rating, but at the same time, the story kept me interested and I wanted to see it through to the end character flaws and all.

Must read
First time reading anything from this author and I'm blown away. The way she writes a story so seamlessly perfect that you literally feel like you are in the book with the characters and places and things that are happening. This was one of the most emotional thought provoking and interesting books that I have read in maybe 5 or more years I can tell you one thing be prepared to cry and feel emotions that you may not have felt in a while I cried so much reading this book I couldn't open my puffy red eyes this morning after plowing through this book in I think 2 day could've been one or so but story is so good so well written that getting lost in the book and the lives of the characters in it made time stand still. Definitely loved this book and now love this author and will be reading another one of her books after posting this review. Honestly, I can't say enough about the overwhelming emotions and excellent story etc.. I'm hooked for life. Try it if never have read her books you won't be sorry

Night Road
Lexi is a product of the system. It has failed her from birth. She would go into the foster system then her mom would clean up long enough to get her back then repeat. She never wanted to be like her mom. She was finally adopted by her aunt. Although the aunt was poor she loved Lexi. She started her freshman year at a new school. Kids knew she was poor and began picking on her. A boy named Zach stood up for her. He was gorgeous but out of her league. At lunch she went outside to find a quiet place to read when she met Mia. They hit it off immediately. And became best friends. Mia and Zach are twins. Their home is perfect. Jude the twins mom loved Lexi and let her know that Zach was off limits due to a dilemma from the past where girls would say they were Lexi’s friend just to get close to Zach. But junior Lexi and Zach fell for each other. It briefly caused problems for Mia. Eventually the three were inseparable. Senior year comes and so does the parties and drinking. They all started applying to Colleges. Lexi did not have the same opportunities as the twins. Lexi would need to do community college while the twins would go off to college. Zach didn’t want to leave Lexi and fought with his parents. One last party would change all their lives. One life would end and one would go to jail. The system again would fail Lexi. This was such a good book. Heart wrenching with a real life look at rich vs poor.

Enjoyed this book!
This book was a great book. Overall the story was really good. And held my interest. I didn’t really figure out all the plot twist ahead of the storyline so that was a plus! My only reason for 4 stars is my dislike for one of the main characters personality. I won’t say more so I don’t spoil it. But it didn’t keep me from reading the book.

Relatable and Emotional, But Missing Hannah’s Usual Spark
While Night Road delivers the emotional weight Kristin Hannah is known for, it didn’t quite reach the same depth or complexity as some of her other novels. The pacing felt uneven at times—especially through the middle—and I found myself wishing for a bit more nuance in the storytelling. That said, Lexi’s character really stood out. She’s raw, real, and deeply relatable. Her struggles and quiet resilience gave the story its emotional core and kept me turning the pages even when the plot felt slow. There are undeniably powerful moments in this book, and it touches on important themes of love, grief, and redemption. But overall, it just didn’t hit as hard for me as Hannah’s best work. A worthwhile read, especially for fans of her writing, but not one that left a lasting impact.
